The usefulness of digital image analysis in estimating sensory attributes of grape seeds in relation to maturation level was evaluated for the first time. Seeds from Syrah grapes harvested throughout the ripening period were grouped according to maturity using the DigiEye® system. The discriminant ability, homogeneity, repeatability, and uniformity of a sensory panel were assessed after training on grape seeds. The aim was to evaluate the use of digital image techniques in order to accurately establish the maturity level of grape seeds, based on sensory and textural features. All sensory attributes (color, hardness, cracking, vegetal, bitterness and astringency) showed significant (p less then 0.05) correlations with the chemical maturity stage. Color and vegetal (sensory attributes), together with deformation energy (instrumental texture parameter) (De), allowed for the classification of the seeds into four real maturity stages, hence their usefulness as grape seed ripening indicators. Significant (p less then 0.05) and high-correlation factors were also found between instrumental and sensory attributes. Therefore, digital analysis can be a useful tool to better define the maturity stage in the vineyard, and to dispose of grape seeds with well-defined sensory profiles for specific oenological applications. This could help to determine the optimal harvest date to manage winemaking, in order to produce high quality wines in warm climates.During the last year, the COVID-19 outbreak put all the healthcare workers around the world at risk of physical and psychological sequelae. The general purpose of the present study was to assess the mental health of Italian healthcare workers during the COVID-19 outbreak and to identify high-risk groups. Here, we present results from the baseline assessment of the "Healthcare workers' wellbeing (Benessere Operatori)" project on a sample of 1055 healthcare workers. Participants completed the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21, the Insomnia Severity Index, the Impact of Event Scale-Revised, the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-2, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory. Healthcare workers who worked in COVID wards reported higher levels of anxiety, insomnia, post-traumatic stress, anger, and burnout, compared to those reported by the healthcare workers who worked in non-COVID wards. Moreover, nurses, both in COVID and non-COVID wards, were at higher risk of experiencing psychological distress compared to other groups of healthcare workers. These findings highlight the importance of implementing targeted psychological interventions for healthcare workers operating in COVID wards and nurses, who seem to be the most vulnerable categories.

The sticking region is considered an intervening factor in the performance of the bench press with high loads.

To evaluate the strength indicators in the sticking point region in Powerlifting Paralympic athletes.

Twelve Brazilian Powerlifting Paralympic athletes performed maximum isometric force (MIF), rate of force development (RFD), time at MIF, velocity, dynamic time in sticking, and surface electromyography in several distances from the bar to the chest.

For velocity, there was a difference between the pre-sticking and sticking region (1.98 ± 0.32 and 1.30 ± 0.43,

= 0.039) and dynamic time between the pre-sticking and the sticking region (0.40 ± 0.16 and 0.97 ± 0.37,

= 00.021). In static test for the MIF, differences were found between 5.0 cm and 15.0 cm (CI 95% 784; 1088;

= 0.010) and between 10.0 cm and 5.0 cm (CI 95% 527; 768;

< 0.001). Regarding the RFD, differences were found (CI 95% 938; 1240;

= 0.004) between 5.0 cm and 25.0 cm and between 10.0 cm and 25.0 cm (CI 95% 513; 732;

< 0.001). In relation to time, there were differences between 5.0 cm and 15.0 cm (CI 95% 0.330; 0.515;

< 0.001), 5.0 cm, and 25.0 cm (CI 95% 0.928; 1.345;

= 0.001), 10.0 cm and 15.0 cm (

< 0.05) and 15.0 cm and 25.0 cm (

< 0.05). U18666A No significant differences were observed between the muscles in electromyography, although the triceps showed the highest muscle activation values.

The maximum isometric force, rate of force development, time, velocity, and dynamic time had lower values, especially in the initial and intermediate phases in the sticking region.

Men's uric acid levels are usually higher than women's. However, postmenopausal women have a higher risk of gout than men, and comorbidities are also higher than in men. This study examined the sex differences in the relationship between hyperuricemia and renal progression in early chronic kidney disease (CKD) and non-CKD, and further examined the incidence of CKD in non-CKD populations among patients over 50 years of age. We analyzed 1856 women and 1852 men participating in the epidemiology and risk factors surveillance of the CKD database. Women showed a significantly higher risk of renal progression and CKD than men within the hyperuricemia group. After adjusting covariates, women, but not men resulted in an hazard ratio (HR) for developing renal progression (HR = 1.12; 95% CI 1.01-1.24 in women and HR = 1.03; 95% CI 0.93-1.13 in men) and CKD (HR = 1.11; 95% CI 1.01-1.22 in women and HR = 0.95; 95% CI 0.85-1.05 in men) for each 1 mg/dL increase in serum urate levels. The association between serum urate levels and renal progression was stronger in women. Given the prevalence and impact of kidney disease, factors that impede optimal renal function management in women and men must be identified to provide tailored treatment recommendations.Sturgeon sperm maturation occurs outside the testes during the transit of testicular spermatozoa (TS) through the kidneys and the Wolffian ducts. A method of in vitro TS maturation in sterlet Acipenser ruthenus was used to investigate the effects of temperature and hormonal stimulation of spermiation on the ability of TS to complete this process. Spermatozoa motility parameters after in vitro maturation of testicular sperm, concentrations of sex steroid hormones and testis morphology were studied in three groups of sterlet (1) after overwintering in ponds (OW), (2) adapted to spawning temperature (ST), and (3) adapted to spawning temperature with hormonal induction of spermiation (ST-HI). Blood plasma concentrations of testosterone, 11-ketotestosterone and 17,20β-dihydroxy-pregnenolone increased significantly after hormonal induction of spermiation (group ST-HI). In all groups, TS were not motile. After in vitro sperm maturation, motility was up to 60% only in group ST-HI. The data suggest that the ability of TS to be matured in vitro was not related to the environmental temperature, while hormonal stimulation of spermiation during the spawning season was an absolute requirement for optimal in vitro maturation.
