In the present study, we examined the effects of B. subtilis BS-Z15 and its metabolites on body weight gain and the intestinal microbiota of mice. Sixty 25-day-old male Kunming white mice were selected and randomly divided into four groups control group (A), daily saline gavage; B. subtilis-treated group (B), single gavage (1 × 109 CFU/time/animal/day); group D, 14 consecutive gavages (1 × 109 CFU/time/animal/day); and B. subtilis metabolite-treated group (E), 30 consecutive gavages (90 mg kg-1/time/animal/day). High-throughput sequencing technology was used to analyze intergroup differences in the mouse intestinal microbiota. The results showed that the three treated groups had significantly slower body weight gain compared with the control group, which lasted until the 45 days (P  less then  0.05), and the daily food intake of the treated mice was higher (P  less then  0.05). The intestinal microbiota structure of the mice in the treated groups was significantly altered compared with that in the control group, suggesting that B. subtilis BS-Z15 may regulate the weight gain of animals by affecting their intestinal bacterial composition. After stopping the gavage of B. subtilis BS-Z15, the abundance of this strain in the small intestine of the mice gradually decreased and its presence was undetectable at 45 days, indicating that B. subtilis BS-Z15 could not colonize the intestine of these mice. These findings suggest that B. subtilis BS-Z15 may regulate intestinal microbiota through its metabolites to reduce weight gain.Despite functional goat milk products having emerged due to their importance for human nutrition and health, few studies have assessed the safety of consumption of goat dairy products containing potentially probiotic autochthonous lactic acid bacteria supplemented with prebiotic carbohydrates. Aiming this field, this study evaluated the safety of goat's milk fermented with Streptococcus thermophilus QGE, the autochthonous Limosilactobacillus mucosae CNPC007 culture, and the prebiotic inulin, through single- and repeated-dose oral toxicity tests (SDT and RDT, respectively) in animals. Ten female Swiss Webster mice were used for SDT evaluation - 2 groups, SDTc (20 mL/kg of filtered water) and SDTt (20 mL/kg of fermented milk) - and 40 Wistar rats for RDT - RDT3, RDT6, and RDT12 (treated with fermented milk at doses of 3 mL/kg, 6 mL/kg, and 12 mL/kg, respectively) and also RDTc (12 mL/kg of filtered water). For SDT, no signs of mortality or toxicity were observed, and the animals maintained the expected weight gain and feed intake. The RDT trials did not show mortality or signs of toxicity, as well as no change in body weight and organs, in the hematological and biochemical parameters, and also in relation to morphology and histology. However, how this transdiagnostic factor interacts with the disorder-specific factor of weight and shape concerns remains unclear. The current study examined whether emotion dysregulation is associated with eating disorder behaviors over and above the association between weight and shape concerns and whether these two factors interacted. The current study used data from two samples, a community sample of high school students (n = 2699), and a clinical sample of adolescents receiving outpatient treatment for an eating disorder (n = 149). Participants completed self-report measures on their eating behaviors, weight/shape concerns, and emotion dysregulation. Findings showed that emotion dysregulation had a unique association with engaging in binge eating and purging (community sample only). Weight and shape concerns were found to have a unique association with engaging in binge eating, fasting, purging, and driven exercise (community sample only). Additionally, weight and shape concerns moderated the association between emotion dysregulation and the probability of engaging in binge eating and driven exercise, whereby the strongest association between emotion dysregulation and these behaviors were observed among adolescents with the lowest levels of weight and shape concerns. Regarding the frequency of eating disorder behaviors, emotion dysregulation had a unique association with severity of binge eating and fasting. Weight and shape concerns were uniquely associated with severity of fasting and driven exercise (community sample only).
