Communities are central to the practice of public health emergency preparedness and response. This article mainly focuses on COVID-19 and discusses the formation and structure of community disaster resilience, which is an effective method for coping with such a public health emergency.
Based on the management of the COVID-19 outbreak in China, this article uses Shanghai's experience to illustrate how a community disaster resilience was formed for risk management. Resorting to the analytical framework of risk city, principles of community disaster resilience are given.
Four actions can be recommended based on Shanghai's experience 1) Applying a vulnerability analysis matrix for targeted risk governance, 2) empowering volunteer groups for emergency response, 3) policy and action for public health emergency prevention, and 4) risk communication for uncertainty-oriented planning.

Stethoscopes and non-infrared thermometers are the customary medical equipment used by the physicians on a daily basis, among various patients. With the rise of potential infections in the healthcare facilities and the transmission nature of the current COVID-19 pandemic, consistent and correct disinfections of these devices after each use should not be pardoned. This study, therefore, aimed to assess the level of stethoscope and non-infrared thermometer disinfection practices among physicians involved in direct patient contact during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A web-based cross-sectional survey was conducted among physicians working in Ethiopia to assess their practice of stethoscope and non-infrared thermometer disinfection. The online survey was circulated using an anonymous and self-reporting questionnaire via Google form with a consent form appended to it. The developed Google form link was shared with physicians through their email addresses and social media pages. A descriptive summary was computed andorted that they have disinfected their stethoscopes and non-infrared thermometers after every use - possibly jeopardizing both patients and clinicians safety, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Waste identification plays a vital role in lean healthcare applications. While the value stream map (VSM) is among the most commonly used tools for waste identification, it may be limited to visualize the behaviour of dynamic and complex healthcare systems. To address this limitation, system modelling techniques (SMTs) can be used to provide a comprehensive picture of various system-wide wastes. However, there is a lack of evidence in the current literature about the potential contribution of SMTs for waste identification in healthcare processes.
This study evaluates the usability and utility of six types of SMTs along with the VSM. For the evaluation, interview-based questionnaires were conducted with twelve stakeholders from the outpatient clinic at the Heart and Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
VSM was found to be the most useful diagram in waste identification in general. However, some SMTs that represent the system behaviour outperformed the VSM in identifying particular waste types, e.g., communication diagram in identifying over-processing waste and flow diagram in identifying transportation waste.
As behavioural SMTs and VSM have unique strengths in identifying particular waste types, the use of multiple diagrams is recommended for a comprehensive waste identification in lean. However, limited resources and time, as well as limited experience of stakeholders with SMTs, may still present obstacles for their potential contribution in lean healthcare applications.

Antepartum depression is a form of clinical depression that can be caused by the stress and worry that pregnancy can bring a more severe level. It can be triggered by an unplanned pregnancy, a history of substance abuse, and low economic status. Antepartum depression is critical and has an intergenerational impact on children in the developing world and it can have negative effects on fetal development. Therefore, this study aimed to assess its magnitude and associated factors among pregnant women attending antenatal clinics in Gurage zone public health institutions, SNNPR, Ethiopia, 2019.
Intuition-based cross-sectional study was employed in Gurage zone public health institutions from February 14 to April 14/2019. A systematic random sampling technique was used. The data were collected and then entered into EpiData and processed by SPSS version 24.0 for analysis. P values <0.05 with 95% confidence level were used to declare statistical significance.
In this study, a total of 343 pregnant mothers were participated by making a response rate of 96%.
