These findings suggest that miR-145-5p may suppress UTUC cell motility and invasion by targeting ARF6/MMP7 through EMT. © 2020 Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.Partitioning to surfaces is an important sink for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) indoors, but the mechanisms are not well understood or quantified. Here, a mass spectrometer was coupled to a portable surface reactor and a flow tube to measure partitioning of VOCs into paint films coated onto glass or wallboard, and their subsequent diffusion. A model was developed to extract values of the effective absorbing organic mass concentration of the film, Cw , which is a measure of absorption capacity, and VOC diffusion coefficients, Df , from VOC time profiles measured during film passivation and depassivation. Values of Cw agreed well with the value estimated from the paint film mass and flow tube air volume, and Df values (also measured using attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) correlated well with VOC vapor saturation concentrations, C*, estimated using a group contribution method. The value of these relationships for estimating key parameters that control VOC partitioning into paint and the fate of VOCs indoors was demonstrated using a house model, which indicated that >50% of VOCs with C* ≤108 μg/m3 (C* of octane, hexanone, and propanol) that contacted a paint film of typical thickness fully permeated the film regardless of emission duration. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons A/S. The incorporation of the indole-bearing monomer leads to successful plasmid DNA condensation even at a nitrogen-to-phosphate (N/P) ratio of 1. The hydrodynamic diameter of polyplexes is determined to be below 200 nm for all N/P ratios. The transfection studies demonstrate a 200-fold increase of the transgene expression in comparison to P(HPMA-co-GPMA) with the same guanidinium content. This study reveals the strong potential of the indole group as a side-chain pendant group that can increase the cellular uptake of polymers and the transfection efficiency of the respective polyplexes. © 2020 The Authors. The purpose of this study was to analyze effects of a functional training program on pain, fitness, and quality of life in patients with fibromyalgia in a 9-year prospective longitudinal cohort study. Forty women with fibromyalgia participated in this study; 24 received an exercise program and were called the active group; and 16 were the control group. Tender points, visual analogical scale (VAS) of pain, physical fitness, Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ), and Short-Form Health Survey 36 (SF-36) were analyzed. The active group experienced significant improvements in FIQ, TP, and VAS (P less then .001), whereas the control group showed significant worsening in the FIQ scale (P = .004). Moreover, the active group experienced significant improvements in leg strength (P less then .001), balance (P = .033), cardiorespiratory fitness (P less then .001), emotional role (P = .024), and mental health (P = .025); whereas the control group significantly worsened on handgrip strength (P = .017), balance (P = .043), cardiorespiratory fitness (P = .020), and in general health (P less then .001). A Pearson correlation analysis revealed a significant relationship between the improvement in physical fitness variables and the improvements in FIQ, TP, and VAS. In conclusion, a regular practice of moderate-intensity physical activity shows a positive effect long-term on fitness, pain, the impact of the disease, and the quality of life in women with fibromyalgia. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons A/S. The vast majority of this research has been funded through the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) and the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP). While much uncertainty remains, the PFAS fate and transport research funded by SERDP and ESTCP has collectively contributed to a growing understanding of the complexity and importance of vadose zone processes and resulting soil retention. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of meclizine on motion-sensitivity. METHODS This study was carried out as a triple-blinded randomized trial involving 12 healthy subjects who were exposed to (i) vestibular (VES), (ii) visual (VIS) and (iii) visual-vestibular (VIS+VES) stimulations in the roll plane. Subjects were divided into 2 groups by stratified randomization, receiving either meclizine or a placebo. Stimulations were carried out before, and after, drug administration, presented at 2 intensity levels of 14 and 28°/s2 . Eye movements were tracked, and torsional slow-phase velocities, amplitudes and nystagmus beats were retrieved. Subjects initially graded for their motion-sickness susceptibility. RESULTS Susceptibility had no effect on intervention outcome. Despite large variations, repeated ANOVAS showed that meclizine led to a relative increase in torsional velocity compared to placebo during vestibular stimulation for both intensities 2.
