Female, Black and lower income patients were less likely to have prompt intervention.

Prompt intervention in large bowel obstruction results in decreased LOS and greater likelihood of discharge to home, but not a mortality benefit. Female, Black and lower income patients were less likely to have prompt intervention.

Surgery Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) presentations include a thorough literature review. This requires a significant amount of time expenditure frequently incompatible with the current surgical resident work hours. Additionally, literature reviews can be redundant for commonly encountered adverse events. The goal of this study was to explore (a) how surgery residents perform literature reviews, and (b) how repetitive presented adverse events are.

A survey was sent out during the academic year 2019-2020. The Morbidity and Mortality repository for that academic year was indexed, and the proportion of adverse events having occurred more than once calculated. The amount of time spent on literature reviews, proportion of repetitive adverse events as well as degree of thoroughness of reviews was evaluated on a 1 to 5 Likert scale.

Tulane University General Surgery program, New Orleans, LA, USA.

All clinically active residents.

All residents, filled out the survey. Seventeen out of 29 (58.6%) residenterature reviews of adverse events would improve the quality of reviews and avoid duplicating efforts.

The goal of this study was to compare the results of LPD with those of open pancreaticoduodenectomy (OPD).

Data were retrospectively collected from a database of patients who underwent PD from January 2010 to May 2020. Intraoperative, postoperative, and follow-up assessment studies were conducted.

A total of 149 patients were selected. Compared with OPD, LPD was fewer intraoperative blood transfusions (p=0.015), a longer median operative time (p<0.001), hospital stay (p=0.034), a higher rate of bile leakage (p=0.02), overall morbidity (p=0.045), and re-operation (p=0.044). There was no difference between the two groups in severe pancreatic fistula, postoperative bleeding, delayed gastric emptying, Clavien-Dindo classification≥III, or 30-day mortality. LPD had a similar number of excised lymph nodes, R0 resection rate, and long-term survival cases involving malignant tumors, ampulla of Vater cancer, and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

In the early period, the benefit of LPD has not been found as there was a high rate of conversion to laparotomy, morbidity, and re-operation. Despite that, LPD is a feasible oncological approach with long-term survival comparable to OPD.

In a phase III, randomised, active-controlled study (EMPOWER-Cervical 1/GOG-3016/ENGOT-cx9; R2810-ONC-1676; NCT03257267) and cemiplimab significantly improved survival versus investigator's choice of chemotherapy among patients with recurrent cervical cancer who had progressed on platinum-based therapy. Here we report patient-reported outcomes in this pivotal study.

Patients were randomised 11 to open-label cemiplimab (350mg intravenously every 3 weeks) or investigator's choice of chemotherapy in 6-week cycles. Patients completed the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30 during cycles 1-16. Least-squares mean changes from baseline in global health status (GHS)/quality of life (QoL) and physical functioning (PF) were secondary end-points in the statistical hierarchy.

Of 608 patients (304/arm), 77.8% patients had squamous cell carcinomaand 22.2% patients had adenocarcinoma. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/nd646.html Questionnaire completion rates were ∼90% throughout. In the squamous cell rrent cervical cancer, with benefits in PF by cycle 2, and clinically meaningful differences favouring cemiplimab in role functioning, appetite loss, and pain.

Obstetric violence appears to be a worldwide concern and is defined as a type of gender-based violence perpetrated by health professionals. This violence undermines and harms women's autonomy. In Spain, 38.3 % of women have identified themselves as victims of this type of violence.

To explore current information and knowledge about obstetric violence within the Spanish healthcare context, as well as to develop a theoretical model to explain the concept of obstetric violence, based on the experiences of healthcare professionals (midwives, registered nurses, gynaecologists and paediatricians) and nursing students.

A constructivist grounded theory study was conducted at Jaume I University in Spain between May and July 2021, including concurrent data collection and interpretation through constant comparison analysis. An inductive analysis was carried out using the ATLAS.ti 9.0 software to organise and analyse the data.

Twenty in-depth interviews were conducted, which revealed that healthcare professionalsgislation.Panax notoginseng is an ancient Chinese medicinal plant that has great clinical value in regulating cardiovascular disease in China. As a single component of panax notoginosides, notoginsenoside R1 (NGR1) belongs to the panaxatriol group. Many reports have demonstrated that NGR1 exerts multiple pharmacological effects in ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, acute renal injury, and intestinal injury. Here, we outline the available reports on the pharmacological effects of NGR1 in ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. We also discuss the chemistry, composition and molecular mechanism underlying the anti-I/R injury effects of NGR1. NGR1 had significant effects on reducing cerebral infarct size and neurological deficits in cerebral I/R injury, ameliorating the impaired mitochondrial morphology in myocardial I/R injury, decreasing kidney injury molecule-1 and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin in renal I/R injury and attenuating jejunal mucosal epithelium injury in intestinal I/R injury. The various organ anti-I/R injury effects of NGR1 are mainly through the suppression of oxidative stress, apoptosis, inflammation, endoplasmic reticulum stress and promotion of angiogenesis and neurogenesis. These findings provide a reference basis for future research of NGR1 on I/R injury.Within the global warming context, heat stroke heavily threatens human health as the most severe type of heat-related illnesses. Despite the urgent onset, severe condition and poor prognosis, heat stroke is entirely preventable and treatable. Most of the recipient countries of Chinese foreign medical aid work are concentrated in the tropical and subtropical regions. It is necessary to popularize the knowledge of heat stroke and improve the ability of diagnose and treatment among foreign medical aid members, which is critical to enhance the quality of medical service and provide better medical care for recipient countries and workers in Chinese-funded institutions. This article reviews the latest research progress in the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of heat stroke to provide scientific reference for actively implementing interventions and reducing morbidity and mortality.Global warming poses an ever-increasing threat to human health, with heat-related illnesses affecting economically underdeveloped tropical regions, posing new challenges to Chinese foreign medical aid work in Africa. By improving the professional ability of foreign aid medical team members and paying attention to the prevention and treatment of heat-related illnesses, they can provide better medical services for recipient countries and Chinese migrant workers in Africa while ensuring their safety.Economy class syndrome (ECS) refers to a series of symptoms, such as lower limb swelling, chest pain, dyspnea, and sudden death, that occur during or after a long-distance flight. Its essence is venous thromboembolism. ECS, as a preventable syndrome, is one of the causes of sudden death in long-distance travelers. Medical assistance to the African region is a very important diplomatic matter of China. It often takes medical workers more than 10 hours of long-distance flight to reach the recipient country. Therefore, it is essential to improve the understanding of ECS and corresponding prevention strategies among the long-distance traveling people including medical workers assisting Africa, which could guarantee their health and ensure the smooth implementation of the work of assisting Africa.Over the past two decades, with the improvement of living standards and the change of lifestyle, the incidence of stroke in young adults had been increasing year by year. Compared with elderly patients, young patients had a higher proportion of intracranial and subarachnoid hemorrhage. The etiologies of ischemic stroke in young patients were more diverse, with increasing risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, smoking, alcoholism, and oral contraceptives. Due to the atypical clinical symptoms, various etiologies, the clinical inertia of the receiving physicians and the concerns about the use of statins in young stroke patients, timely diagnosis and standardized treatment are still challenging. China has been providing medical assistance to African countries for nearly 60 years. Considering the regional differences in medical level between China and Africa, in order to help Chinese medical teams to have a deep understanding of the current situation of stroke in young African adults, this paper comprehensively analyzed the epidemiology, etiology, risk factors and prevention measures of stroke in young adults, especially in Chinese and African, which could provide corresponding reference for early identification, treatment, prevention and education of stroke in young people.Obesity has become a global public health problem that seriously threatens population health. The Chinese government has attached great importance to prevent and control the negative impacts of obesity on individuals, families and society. China has established a policy system for obesity, and made certain achievements in behavioral intervention, drug treatment, traditional Chinese medicine treatment, and surgical treatment. This study summarizes the prevention and treatment experience of obesity in China in order to provide reference for African countries to better formulate prevention and treatment strategies for obesity in line with their local context. The COVID-19 outbreak at the end of 2019 has accelerated the development and research for COVID-19 vaccines worldwide.
