Sporocysts include residual bodies.

In the present paper, the morphology and ultrastructure of the oocyst of A. melolonthae is documented for the first time and compared with other Adelina and coccidian species infecting insects. The results in this study confirm his identification and justify the classification as a separate species A. melolonthae, which differs from other Adelina species.

For the evolution of schistosomiasis in China, a systematic review was provided about the history of the disease and its public health impacts. We aimed to depict the journey from disease discovery to elimination and the experience and lessons learned during the process.

We systematically reviewed the Chinese history of schistosomiasis and its public health impacts and collected data on the disease by searching relevant books and articles.

An important milestone for the disease discovery is that Schistosoma japonicum eggs were identified in the two Chinese corpses dating back to around 2180years ago. The earliest Chinese ancient book documented symptoms resembling schistosomiasis that could date back to about 4700years ago. The first nationwide survey on the disease in the mid-1950s revealed that schistosomiasis was endemic in 433 counties or cities of 12 provinces and affected about 11.6 million people in China. The Chinese government has provided continuous investment in schistosoiasis control, and the national multifaceted, integrated control programs have been uninterruptedly implemented since 1955. Schistosomiasis control in China can be divided into six stages, and various schistosomiasis control strategies have been developed and adjusted. The number of schistosomiasis cases decreased from 11.6 million in 1950s to38,000 in 2017 and the number of acute cases decreased from 13,191 in 1989 to only 1 in 2017.

Schistosomiasis transmission has been under control in all parts of China since 2017. An elimination of schistosomiasis can be achieved in the foreseeable future in China.

Limited evidence about the presence of Acanthamoeba spp. in urine specimens collected from urinary catheters of the patients in the intensive care units persuaded our study. No evidence has been found about colonizing of Acanthamoeba spp., in urinary tracts of patients with recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) yet.

In this study, 50 urine samples were collected from patients presenting with recurrent UTI. The type of bacteria causing UTI was determined by using bacteriological tests. To cultivate Acanthamoeba spp., in a sterile condition, 10mL of urine was centrifuged and the sediment was cultivated on non-nutrient agar. Genotypes were determined by sequencing the DF3 region of the 18S rRNA gene.

The bacteriological test findings on the urine samples of the UTI patients (n = 30) demonstrated that those were found to be positive for Escherichia coli (n = 17), Staphylococcus aureus (n = 6), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (n = 4) and Klebsiella spp. LY3295668 in vitro (n = 3) respectively. Moreover, a total of 50 urine samples s possible latent carriers for resistant bacteria and biofilm formation in the future.Mirror self-recognition (MSR), investigated in primates and recently in non-primate species, is considered a measure of self-awareness. Nowadays, the only reliable test for investigating MSR potential skills consists in the untrained response to a visual body mark detected using a reflective surface. Here, we report the first evidence of MSR at group level in horses, by facing the weaknesses of methodology present in a previous pilot study. Fourteen horses were used in a 4-phases mirror test (covered mirror, open mirror, invisible mark, visible colored mark). After engaging in a series of contingency behaviors (looking behind the mirror, peek-a-boo, head and tongue movements), our horses used the mirror surface to guide their movements towards their colored cheeks, thus showing that they can recognize themselves in a mirror. The analysis at the group level, which 'marks' a turning point in the analytical technique of MSR exploration in non-primate species, showed that horses spent a longer time in scratching their faces when marked with the visible mark compared to the non-visible mark. This finding indicates that horses did not see the non-visible mark and that they did not touch their own face guided by the tactile sensation, suggesting the presence of MSR in horses. Although a heated debate on the binary versus gradualist model in the MSR interpretation exists, recent empirical pieces of evidence, including ours, indicate that MSR is not an all-or-nothing phenomenon that appeared once in phylogeny and that a convergent evolution mechanism can be at the basis of its presence in phylogenetically distant taxa.A 41-year-old woman presented acute cerebral infarction. Transesophageal echocardiography revealed multiple masses only on both surfaces of the aortic valve cusps. There was no primary lesion outside the heart according to various examinations. After treatment for cerebral infarction, we replaced the aortic valve instead of preservation because the intraoperative histological examination reported that malignancy was highly suspected. Contrary to the rapid frozen section diagnosis, histological and immunohistochemical examinations failed to exhibit malignancy. The tumors were composed of atypical large lymphoid cells and they were assessed to be related to T-/natural killer-cells. Furthermore, Epstein-Barr virus related markers were also positive. Her three-year postoperative course was uneventful without chemotherapy. We report an extremely rare case of Epstein-Barr virus-associated T-/natural killer-cell lymphoproliferative disease which formed multiple small tumors on both surfaces of the aortic valve.
