In recent years, there has been an increase in the use of phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5i) that are purchased from abroad without a doctor's diagnosis via the Internet or other means. We report six cases in which nonprescription use of PDE5i may have led to death. Among the four deceased individuals who were believed to have experienced sudden cardiac death, three (cases 1-3) had a history of cardiovascular disease, which is a contraindication, and the remaining case (case 4) involved combined use of multiple PDE5i. Sildenafil (0.063 µg/mL, 0.087 µg/mL) was detected in two of the four cases of sudden cardiac death. Tadalafil (0.096 µg/mL) was detected in one of the remaining two cases, and tadalafil (0.197 µg/mL) and vardenafil (0.011 µg/mL) were detected in the other case. Sildenafil (0.032 µg/mL), tadalafil (0.062 µg/mL), and ethanol were detected in a traffic accident case with a history of contraindications. In a case of asphyxiation by vomit aspiration, autopsy showed 90% stenosis in the anterior descending branch of the coronary artery, and sildenafil (0.063 µg/mL) was detected. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of postmortem blood levels of tadalafil and vardenafil likely contributing to the cause of death. Despite all the warnings about the dangers of using PDE5 inhibitors, cases of PDE5i contributing to death are still identified during autopsies. Therefore, raising public awareness of the risks of the risks associated with the imported drug use by individuals is necessary.Opioid misuse has emerged in recent years as a major public health concern in the United States, particularly for adolescents and emerging young adults. We examined the association of opioid misuse from ages 18 to 20 with four domains at age 21-22 risk behaviors and consequences; health; social functioning; and emerging adult roles. Participants were surveyed annually from 2008 through 2019. The sample includes N = 2880 youth from waves 8-11. check details The sample was approximately 18 years old at wave 8; 54% female, 46% Hispanic, 20% white, 20% Asian, 2% Black, and 11% multiracial. Opioid misuse was low in this general sample of young adults, with about 4% reporting misuse from age 18-20. We used latent growth curve modeling to examine how misuse from ages 18-20 was associated with functioning at age 21-22. Adolescents who reported opioid misuse at age 18 also reported more negative consequences from alcohol and cannabis use and greater odds of other prescription drug misuse at age 21-22 than those with no misuse. Those reporting opioid misuse at age 18 were also more likely to engage in sexual risk behaviors, report delinquent behavior, and have a higher likelihood of experiencing sexual victimization and engaging in sexual perpetration at age 21-22 than those with no misuse. Neither the intercept nor slope of opioid misuse was associated with depression, anxiety, physical health or ailments, satisfaction with friends, romantic relationship functioning, or emerging adult roles at wave 11. Findings highlight the importance of screening and brief intervention for adolescents reporting opioid misuse.Although substantial knowledge of mercury toxicity in fish has been assembled; until now, studies investigating the toxic impacts in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) following dietary exposure to organic methyl mercury (MeHg) are less prolific. Accordingly, the current study aimed to evaluate the impacts of MeHg on neurobehavioral and immune integrity in Nile tilapia after dietary exposure. Two hundred and twenty-five juvenile Nile tilapia (19.99 ± 0.33 g) were allocated into five groups in triplicates (15 fish/replicate). G1, G2, G3, G4, and G5. O. niloticus were fed corresponding basal diets containing 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 mg/kg diet MeHg chloride (MeHgCl) daily for 30 days, zero value represented the control G1 group. The results showed that MeHg induced significant alterations in O. niloticus behavior, the swimming behavior was significantly decreased, while scratching, biting, and fin tugging behaviors were significantly augmented. Moreover; chasing, mouth pushing, and butting behaviors were signifiy pose a potential threat to the O. niloticus populations.Glyphosate is an herbicidal active substance (AS) entering in the composition of a large diversity of pesticide products (glyphosate-based herbicides; GBH) used in modern intensive agriculture. This compound has a favorable environmental safety profile but was suspected to induce deleterious effects in aquatic organisms, with a potential effect of some associated co-formulants. This study aimed to assess the impact of direct and chronic exposure to glyphosate on the health status of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss. A total of 36 genitors were exposed daily for 10 months to a dose of glyphosate representative of environmental concentrations (around 1 μg L-1) using the AS alone or two GBHs formulations (i.e. Roundup Innovert® and Viaglif Jardin®) and findings were compared to an unexposed control group (n=12). The effects of chemical exposure on the reproductive capacities, hemato-immunologic functions, energetic metabolism, oxidative stress and specific biomarkers of exposure were analyzed over a period of sults suggest that a 10 months exposure of rainbow trout to a concentration of 1 μg L-1 of glyphosate administered using the pure active substance or two GBHs did not significantly modify their global health including during the spawning period. The immunological disturbances observed will need to be further explored because they could have a major impact in response to infectious stress.Uterine tumor resembling ovarian sex-cord tumor (UTROSCT) is a rare distinct cancer included in the current World Health Organization classification of endometrial stromal tumors. A battery of immunohistochemical markers are necessary for accurate diagnosis. Although few case reports and case series have been documented and therefore providing robust prognostic information several authors agree to consider UTROSCT as a low malignant potential tumour. In literature only five cases of conservative management were reported. We reported our experience and a review of conservative cases of literature. In this article we describe a series of 10 cases of UTROSCT and their clinical and pathologic feature. We report two cases of conservative surgical approach obtaining a successfully pregnancies. All of the patients are still alive. In conclusion, fertility sparing surgery should be offered to patients who wish preserve their fertility however radical surgery must be considerate after childbirth. Close follow-up is required for all patients due to the lack of prognostic biomarkers and long follow up is needed to evaluate safety of conservative surgery.
