The findings also suggested a significant relationship between the family characteristics and behavioral problems. On the other hand, family characteristics and emotional regulation had direct and significant effects on improvement of the social skills (P  less then  0.001). The results revealed a direct effect of child abuse on the behavioral problems in the children of parents with substance use disorder. Thus, it is suggested to take a preventive approach toward child abuse in the children of parents with substance use disorder by employing a comprehensive program and intervention methods. Background Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps of inhaled hyperpolarized gases have shown promise in the characterization of emphysema in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), yet an easily interpreted quantitative metric beyond mean and standard deviation has not been established. Purpose To introduce a quantitative framework with which to characterize emphysema burden based on hyperpolarized helium 3 (3He) and xenon 129 (129Xe) ADC maps and compare its diagnostic performance with CT-based emphysema metrics and pulmonary function tests (PFTs). Materials and Methods Twenty-seven patients with mild, moderate, or severe COPD and 13 age-matched healthy control subjects participated in this retrospective study. Participants underwent CT and multiple b value diffusion-weighted 3He and 129Xe MRI examinations and standard PFTs between August 2014 and November 2017. ADC-based emphysema index was computed separately for each gas and b value as the fraction of lung voxels with ADC values grethe editorial by Schiebler and Fain in this issue.

More than 7 million Americans who have diabetes use insulin therapy. The majority continue to use syringes and vials or traditional insulin pens to deliver their insulin doses. Using these tools to deliver insulin presents numerous challenges for both the person with diabetes and their clinicians. This article provides an in-depth introduction to a new category of insulin delivery devices and integrated management systems, referred to as smart insulin pens. The article includes information about how these integrated insulin delivery systems can reduce many of the challenges of rapid-acting insulin dosing via injection by enabling easier and more accurate dose recording, dose calculations, and sharing of diabetes management data with clinicians. This article also discusses new roles for diabetes care and education specialists in diabetes data-driven care and practice and addresses how smart insulin pens represent one of many newer digital diabetes management tools that can assist people with diabetes and their clinicians to optimally achieve and deliver quality, data-driven diabetes care.

Newer and simplified insulin delivery devices with their integrated management systems, such as smart insulin pens, have the potential to minimize the challenges and complexities associated with insulin injection therapy while also providing people with diabetes and their clinicians more complete and integrated data in easily transmitted reports that support more efficient data analysis.

After significant restrictions initially due to the COVID-19 pandemic, otolaryngologists have begun resuming normal clinical practice. However, the risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission to health care workers through aerosolization and airborne transmission during rhinologic surgery remains incompletely characterized. The objective of this study was to quantify the number concentrations of aerosols generated during rhinologic surgery with and without interventions involving 3 passive suction devices.

Cadaver simulation.

Dedicated surgical laboratory.

In a simulation of rhinologic procedures with and without different passive suction interventions, the concentrations of generated aerosols in the particle size range of 0.30 to 10.0 µm were quantified with an optical particle sizer.

Functional endoscopic sinus surgery with and without microdebrider, high-speed powered drilling, use of an ultrasonic aspirator, and electrocautery all produced statistically significant increases in concentrations of aerosols of various sizes (

< .05). Powered drilling, ultrasonic aspirator, and electrocautery generated the highest concentration of aerosols, predominantly submicroparticles <1 µm. #link# All interventions with a suction device were effective in reducing aerosols, though the surgical smoke evacuation system was the most effective passive suction method in 2 of the 5 surgical conditions with statistical significance (

< .05).

Significant aerosol concentrations were produced in the range of 0.30 to 10.0 µm during all rhinologic procedures in this cadaver simulation. link2 Rhinologic surgery with a passive suction device results in significant mitigation of generated aerosols.

Many studies in AD suggested beta-amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles-associated tau protein as the key targets for drug development. On the other hand, it is proved that triggering of Glycogen Synthase Kinase-3β (GSK-3β) also cause AD, therefore, GSK-3β is a potential drug target to combat AD. We, in this study, investigated the ability of small molecules to inhibit GSK-3β through virtual screening, Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, and Excretion (ADME), induced-fit docking (IFD), molecular dynamics simulation, and binding free energy calculation. Besides, molecular docking was performed to reveal the binding and interaction of the ligand at the active site of GSK-3β. We found two compounds such as 6961 and 6966, which exhibited steady-state interaction with GSK-3β for 30 ns in molecular dynamics simulation. The compounds (6961 and 6966) also achieved a docking score of -9.05 kcal/mol and -8.11 kcal/mol, respectively, which is relatively higher than the GSK-3β II inhibitor (-6.73 kcal/mol). The molecular dynamics simulation revealed that the compounds have a stable state during overall simulation time, and lesser root-mean-square deviation (RMSD) and root-mean-square fluctuation (RMSF) values compared with co-crystal. In conclusion, we suggest the two compounds (6966 and 6961) as potential leads that could be utilized as effective inhibitors of GSK-3β to combat AD.From 2005-06 to 2015-16, proportion of cesarean deliveries in total deliveries has almost doubled in India. In this paper, we study changes in prevalence of cesarean deliveries across different social-economic groups and study factors affecting odds of undergoing cesarean delivery. The present paper was based on National Family Health Surveys and employs logistic regression. We find that rise in cesarean deliveries has been across social groups, religions, urban/rural India, wealth groups, though increase has not been uniform. Further, many economically affluent states have high proportion of cesarean deliveries. We find that women delivering at private hospitals had significantly higher odds of opting for cesarean delivery. Further, women belonging to rich households were more likely to go through surgery for birth. In case of earlier terminated pregnancies, odds were higher too. The higher odds of cesarean sections in the relatively affluent geographic regions, richer households and private institutions indicate that these procedures may be driven by non-medical reasons in many cases, pointing toward the use of surgical procedures for the convenience.Online supplemental material is available for this article. Background Water signal contamination is a major challenge for direct ultrashort echo time (UTE) imaging of myelin in vivo because water contributes most of the signals detected in white matter. Purpose To validate a new short repetition time (TR) adiabatic inversion recovery (STAIR) prepared UTE (STAIR-UTE) sequence designed to suppress water signals and to allow imaging of ultrashort T2 protons of myelin in white matter using a clinical 3-T scanner. Materials and Methods In this prospective study, an optimization framework was used to obtain the optimal inversion time for nulling water signals using STAIR-UTE imaging at different TRs. Numeric simulation and phantom studies were performed. Healthy volunteers and participants with multiple sclerosis (MS) underwent MRI between November 2018 and October 2019 to compare STAIR-UTE and a clinical T2-weighted fluid-attenuated inversion recovery sequence for assessment of MS lesions. UTE measures of myelin were also performed to allow comparison of signals in lesionecho time sequence provided efficient water signal suppression for volumetric imaging of myelin in the brain and showed excellent myelin signal contrast as well as marked ultrashort echo time signal reduction in multiple sclerosis lesions and a smaller reduction in normal-appearing white matter compared with normal white matter in volunteers. © RSNA, 2020 Online supplemental material is available for this article. In this context, the main task worldwide, texting, is performed under a wide range of light and position conditions. The aim of this study was to test the effects of environmental illumination and screen brightness settings on upper limb and axial skeleton parameters. Twelve subjects performed three trials of texting under three experimental positions, two screen luminance settings and three environmental light conditions. 3 D axial skeleton and upper limb angles, smartphone orientation and face-to-smartphone distance were used as dependent variables. High environmental illumination and/or low screen brightness resulted in an increase in interaction time and a reduction in the face-to-smartphone distance by approximately 10%. Subjects attempted to compensate for the unfavourable effects of such light conditions by adopting postures rated 5 in the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment, indicating an increased risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders. link3 Practitioner's summary The purpose of the study was to quantify the joint angles of the upper body in experimental conditions that represent daily life. Postures were influenced by ambient illumination and display brightness. The most harmful postures were observed when the display brightness was minimum, and the ambient light was similar to a sunny day.
