The pathogen was subsequently identified as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), known to be responsible for the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) illness, and public health emergency of international concern was declared by the World Health Organization. There is increasing awareness of the cardiovascular manifestations of COVID-19 disease, and the adverse impact of cardiovascular involvement on its prognosis. In this setting, the electrocardiogram (ECG) is one of the leading tools to assess the extent of cardiac involvement in COVID-19 patients, due to its wide disponibility, low cost, and the possibility of remote evaluation. In this article, we review the role of the ECG in the identification of cardiac involvement in COVID-19, highlighting relevant clinical implications.We present the case of a patient with chest pain, palpitations, atrial fibrillation, left bundle branch block (LBBB) and occasional early narrow QRS complexes. An intracardiac study revealed rate-dependent LBBB with additional hidden rate-dependent slowing in the contralateral bundle branch, resulting in normalization of the early conducted QRS complexes.Modular taper junctions are commonly used in total hip arthroplasty to offer a wide range of intraoperative choices to surgeons. The damage at the taper surfaces can lead to the implant failure either by material removal (wear) or by cracks nucleation (fatigue). This paper presents a methodology based on the finite element approach to study both fretting wear and fatigue, taking into account their interaction in the modular taper. The modified Archard's law was employed to compute wear depth and the corresponding volume loss while the fatigue life was predicted using two critical plane fatigue parameters (Smith-Watson-Topper and Fatemi-Socie). An adaptive meshing technique was implemented to take into account the geometry changes and the material removal effect on fatigue life. The methodology developed was discussed and validated against available experimental data from the literature. In this case considered, a transition from a partial slip regime to a large slip one, which is mainly controlled by the contact slip amplitude, was found to reduce the fatigue life and a critical slip value was identified. This provides an efficient tool for an in-depth understanding of fretting in taper junctions and for future design.Collagen forms one-third of the body proteome and has emerged as an important biomaterial for tissue engineering and wound healing. Collagen films are used in tissue regeneration, wound treatment, dural substitute etc. as well as in flexible electronics. Thus, the mechanical behaviour of collagen should be studied under different environmental conditions and strain rates relevant for potential applications. This study's aim is to assess the mechanical behaviour of collagen films under different environmental conditions (hydration, submersion and physiological temperature (37 °C)) and strain rates. The combination of all three environment factors (hydration, submersion and physiological temperature (37 °C)) resulted in a drop of tensile strength of the collagen film by some 90% compared to that of dry samples, while the strain at failure increased to about 145%. For the first time, collagen films were subjected to different strain rates ranging from quasi-static (0.0001 s-1) to intermediate (0.001 s-1, 0.01 s-1) to dynamic (0.1 s-1, 1 s-1) conditions, with the strain-rate-sensitivity exponent (m) reported. It was found that collagen exhibited a strain-rate-sensitive hardening behaviour with increasing strain rate. The exponent m ranged from 0.02-0.2, with a tendency to approach zero at intermediate strain rate (0.01 s-1), indicating that collagen may be strain-rate insensitive in this regime. From the identification of hyperelastic parameter of collagen film, it was found that the Ogden Model provides realistic results for future simulations.There is a limited evidence base from which to draw conclusions about compensatory and protective factors for problem gambling. The aim of this study was to explore the potential for positive mental health characteristics (general coping, emotional support, spirituality, interpersonal skills, personal growth and autonomy, and global affect) to play a compensatory role and protective role in problem gambling in a convenience sample of 499 Australian university students. Hazardous alcohol use, past-year substance use, gambling-related cognitions (interpretive bias, illusion of control, predictive control, gambling-related expectancies, and perceived inability to stop gambling), gambling high-risk situations (negative and positive reinforcement situations), and gambling motives (money, positive feelings, regulate internal state, and challenge) positively predicted problem gambling severity. None of the positive mental health characteristics negatively predicted problem gambling severity, suggesting that these factors did not play a compensatory role. However, emotional support, personal growth and autonomy, and global affect buffered the influence of gambling motives and high-risk situations, suggesting that these factors played a protective role. The identification of these modifiable risk and protective factors has implications for the development of effective prevention and intervention initiatives. Further longitudinal research employing population-representative samples is required to replicate these results and investigate relationship-, community-, and societal-level risk, compensatory and protective factors associated with the development of problem gambling.
