Evaluate real-world patient preferences, experiences and outcomes (health-related quality of life [HRQoL]) from patients with anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive (ALK+) non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) utilizing the ALKConnect Patient Insight Network.

Demographics, disease history/status/treatment, patient preferencesand HRQoL (MD Anderson Symptom Inventory lung cancer module, reported as symptom severity and interference) were evaluated for US adults with ALK+ NSCLC.

Among 104 patients (median age 53.0 years, 67.3% female, 40.0% employed), HRQoL and 3-month delay in disease progression were important treatment attributes. Burdensome symptoms included fatigue and disturbed sleep. Symptoms interfered most with work and day-to-day activity. Higher HRQoL was associated with ALK tyrosine kinase inhibitor(TKI) treatment and employment.

ALKConnect demonstrated that disease progression, HRQoL, fatigue/sleep, ALK TKIs and employment matter in ALK+ NSCLC.

In this focused review, the authors discuss how COVID-19 is affecting acute cardiology care and propose pragmatic guideline modifications for the diagnosis and management of acute coronary syndrome patients, particularly around the appropriateness of invasive strategies as well as length of hospital stay. The authors also discuss the use of personal protective equipment for healthcare workers in cardiology. Based on shared global experiences and growing peer-reviewed literature, it is possible to put in place modified acute coronary syndrome treatment pathways to offer safe pragmatic decisions to patients and staff.Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a common abnormality affecting between 20% and 34% of the adult population. For most people, it is a benign finding; however, in some people, the PFO can open widely to enable paradoxical embolus to transit from the venous to arterial circulation, which is associated with stroke and systemic embolisation. Percutaneous closure of the PFO in patients with cryptogenic stroke has been undertaken for a number of years, and a number of purpose-specific septal occluders have been marketed. Recent randomised control trials have demonstrated that closure of PFO in patients with cryptogenic stroke is associated with reduced rates of recurrent stroke. After a brief overview of the anatomy of a PFO, this article considers the evidence for PFO closure in cryptogenic stroke. The article also addresses other potential indications for closure, including systemic arterial embolisation, decompression sickness, platypnoea-orthodeoxia syndrome and migraine with aura. The article lays out the pre-procedural investigations and preparation for the procedure. Finally, the article gives an overview of the procedure itself, including discussion of closure devices.[This corrects the article DOI 10.1016/j.chmed.2018.03.014.][This corrects the article DOI 10.1016/j.chmed.2020.03.004.].Subareolar breast abscesses (SBAs) in men are extremely rare. To date, only 15 men with SBA have been reported in the English literature. We present a case of SBA in a 28-year-old man who visited our surgical clinic with a painful swelling in his right breast for 10 days. Physical examination showed a tender, hot mass in the right subareolar area with erythema. Ultrasound of the right breast showed radiological features of a breast abscess. Fine-needle aspiration yielded brownish yellow pus. Based on these findings, a diagnosis of right SBA was established. This is the first documented case of SBA in men from the KSA. Additionally, this case report sheds light on the current clinical and therapeutic approaches to managing cases of SBA in men.Nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin's lymphoma (NLPHL) is a rare but distinct subtype of Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) that carries a better prognosis than classical Hodgkin's lymphoma. Selleckchem NVP-BSK805 Historically, both subtypes of Hodgkin's lymphomas (classical HL and NLPHL) have been grouped together and treated as classical Hodgkin's lymphoma. Recent studies have questioned this approach and have called for an alternative method due to expected severe long-term adverse events. We report two cases of NLPHL that were successfully treated with reduced chemotherapy cycles, as well as rituximab, in the form of R-CHOP (rituximab plus cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone).

This study aims to determine the alarm thresholds in influenza outbreaks and aberration detection in the influenza trend in Iran by using cumulative sum control chart (CUSUM) and period regression.

We used the weekly reported influenza-positive (types A and B) cases from Iran between January 2015 and November 2019. The period regression model and CUSUM chart were used as detection algorithms to figure out the alarm thresholds.

The mean±SD and the median (95% CI) of the determined threshold per week were 34.85±15.29 and 28.30 (17.67-64.62). According to the period regression, there were nine epidemic periods of influenza from 2015 to 2019. By using the CUSUM and considering a different h (h is an appropriate value that leads to the desired estimation for upper control limit) for the calculation of the upper control limit, 88, 84, 73 and 67 weeks were determined as the epidemic period.

According to the current study, the incidence of influenza showed a cyclic pattern and the epidemic recurred each year. Understanding this cyclical pattern can help health policymakers launch prevention programs such as vaccination during certain months of the year.
