sidency disciplines, their effectiveness is not well examined. Guidance and flexibility of the accreditation bodies in ensuring the competency of residents is one component of the adaptive response.

We previously developed a surface-controlled water-dispersible form of curcumin that we called Theracurmin

. The area under the blood concentration-time curve (AUC) of Theracurmin in humans was 27-fold higher than that of curcumin powder. Previously, we reported on the anti-inflammatory effects of Theracurmin for knee osteoarthritis.

We determined the clinical effects of orally administered Theracurmin in patients with knee osteoarthritis over a 6-month period.

Open prospective study.

Fifty patients Kellgren-Lawrence grade II, III, or IV knee osteoarthritis who were above 40 years old were enrolled in this clinical study. Theracurmin containing 180 mg/day of curcumin was administered orally every day for 6 months. To monitor for adverse events, blood biochemistry analyses were performed before and after 6 months of each intervention. The patients' knee symptoms were evaluated at 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 months based on the Japanese Knee Osteoarthritis Measure, the knee pain visual analog scale, and the knee scoring system of the Japanese Orthopedic Association.

Five cases dropped out during the study, but no cases dropped out because of major problems. No major side effects were observed with Theracurmin treatment, including the blood biochemistry analysis results. The effective group included 34 cases (75.6%), while the not-effective group included 11 cases.

This study demonstrates the safety and good efficacy of Theracurmin for various types of knee osteoarthritis. Theracurmin shows great potential for the treatment of human knee osteoarthritis.

People with Parkinson's (PwP) often feel stigmatized, especially when their symptoms are visually prominent. In some countries, public awareness of Parkinson's disease can be minimal, leading to social challenges for PwP.

A public educational campaign using videos (VDO) showing 5 PwP in different social situations that their symptoms could be a source of inconvenience to others were launched on Facebook (FB) and television (TV). We describe the process and report the impact of the campaign on patients and the public. Number of shares and likes and the first 100 comments on FB were analyzed.

There were almost 1 million views, 680,000 likes, and 256,000 shares in the Center's and popular Facebook Pages within 24 hours, subsequently reaching 4.4 million views, 138,000 likes, and 78,000 shares. Patients reported changed behavior and demeanor by the public towards them. The public's comments ranged from stating that they have seen PwP without knowing what it was to requests for more information about PD to thanks for the informative VDO. People also shared their experiences with PwP.

The campaign was impactful in creating awareness about PD. Creating appealing content with appropriate video length and collaborating with community groups that have relevant skills can help in creating and disseminating an educational video which creates a significant impact on society as a whole. This can be emulated to educate the public about other diseases.

To date, this topic has been primarily researched in secondary schools, with less understanding of development of attitudes and behaviours at an earlier age. This research reports qualitative data from interviews with pupils, parents, and teachers at 4 case study schools in Wales (N = 42). It draws on Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory to consider how the intersection of systems surrounding primary school-age children and their interaction with these systems, shape knowledge, and attitudes towards e-cigarettes and tobacco. Findings indicate that consistent messaging on smoking from school and family was reflected in strong disapproval among pupils and clear understanding of harms. This was less evident for e-cigarettes, where messages were mixed and inconsistent between home and school, with concerns over what to tell children about e-cigarettes in light of mixed messages and absence of official guidance. Implications of findings for policy and teaching are discussed.

Factors associated with the incubation period of COVID-19 are not fully known. The aim of this study was to estimate the incubation period of COVID-19 using epidemiological contact tracing data, and to explore whether there were different incubation periods among different age gr1oups.

We collected contact tracing data in a municipality in Hubei province during the full outbreak period of COVID-19. The exposure periods were inferred from the history of travel in Wuhan and/or history of exposure to confirmed cases. The incubation periods were estimated using parametric accelerated failure time models accounting for interval censoring of exposures.

The incubation period of COVID-19 follows a Weibull distribution and has a median of 5.8 days with a bootstrap 95% CI 5.4-6.7 days. Of the symptomatic cases, 95% showed symptoms by 14.3 days (95% CI 13.0-15.7), and 99% showed symptoms by 18.7 days (95% CI 16.7-20.9). The incubation periods were not found significantly different between male and female. Elderly cases had significant longer incubation periods than young age cases (HR 1.49 with 95% CI 1.09-2.05). The median incubation period was estimated at 4.0 days (95% CI 3.5-4.4) for cases aged under 30, 5.8 days (95% CI 5.6-6.0) for cases aged between 30 and 59, and 7.7 days (95% CI 6.9-8.4) for cases aged greater than or equal to 60.

The current practice of a 14-day quarantine period in many regions is reasonable for any age. Older people infected with SARS-CoV2 have longer incubation period than that of younger people. Thus, more attention should be paid to asymptomatic elderly people who had a history of exposure.

To perform an inclusive search for original studies that report medical overuse in the Iranian healthcare system and discovering the area of overuse.

A systematic search of the literature is conducted in bibliographic databases including PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Sciences, Cochrane and Scientific Information Database using a comprehensive search strategy without time limit until the end of 2018, updated by 1 July 2020, accomplished by reference tracking, author contacting and expert consultation to identify studies on the overuse of medical care.

We reviewed 4124 published articles based on predetermined inclusion criteria. The author's consensus included a total of 41 articles. Of these, 32 were in English and 9 in Farsi, published between 1975-2019. The result categorized into two distinct clinical areas treatment (18 articles) and diagnostic (23 articles) services. Almost all of the studies only described the magnitude of unnecessary overuse. Unnecessary overuse of antibiotics, MRI, and CT-scan couraged to conducting interventional studies. We suggest the ministry of health to use the golden opportunity of COVID-19 epidemic for designing Iran national policy and action plan for controlling and preventing unnecessary healthcare services and including a section for "Interventional Research" in the action plan.Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) broke out first in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. In the process of controlling the pandemic, many Chinese medical staff (MS) were infected. We used government data, post mortem reports, and the medical literature on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) transmission, as well as prevention-and-control guidelines from the government, hospitals and media, to discuss the main risks factors faced by MS. We suggest that, when dealing with a similar pandemic in the future, guidance on personal protective equipment must be provided and materials reserved in advance. Also, the emergency response of medical institutions should be enhanced, and information shared with other countries facing identical severe challenges.

Leprosy or Hansen's disease is a potentially disabling disease that results in discrimination and self-stigma. A delay in case detection among leprosy patients is one of the factors resulting in disability. Although poor insights of the community toward leprosy lead to delays in case detection, studies on such matters are neglected in Ethiopia.

To assess the level of community knowledge and attitudes toward leprosy in Fedis District, Eastern Ethiopia.

A community-based cross-sectional study was carried out among 728 randomly selected households from July to August 2019. Each participant was interviewed using a pretested structured questionnaire consisting of participants' socio-demographic background, questions related to knowledge of and attitudes toward leprosy. NVP-TAE684 mouse The collected data were entered using EpiData 3.1 and analyzed using STATA version 13. link2 Chi-squared test, binary, and multivariable logistic regressions were applied as appropriate to assess the association between outcome and independent varia shown to support a favorable attitude toward leprosy.

This study revealed unfavorable attitudes toward leprosy among the community. Having a high overall knowledge level on leprosy has been shown to support a favorable attitude toward leprosy.

An area of interest to health policymakers is the effect of interventions aimed at risk factors on decreasing the number of new cardiovascular disease (CVD) cases. The aim of this study was to estimate the generalized impact fraction (GIF) and population attributable fraction (PAF) of hypertension (HTN) for CVD in Tehran.

In this population-based cohort study, 8071 participants aged ≥30 years were followed for a median of 16 years. A survival model was used to estimate the 10- and 18-year risk of CVD. JNC-IV and 2017 ACC/AHA guidelines were used to categorize blood pressure (BP). PAF and GIF were estimated in different scenarios using the parametric G-formula.

Of 7378 participants included in analyses, 22.7% and 52.3% were classified as hypertensive according to the JNC-IV and 2017 ACC/AHA guidelines, respectively. According to the 2017 ACC/AHA, the 10-year risk of CVD was 5.1% (4.3-6.0%), 8.9% (6.7-12.0%), and 7.1% (6.1-8.4%) for normal BP, elevated BP, and stage 1 HTN, respectively, and 20.8% (18.8-23.0%) for stage 2 of the 2017 ACC/AHA and JNC-IV. The PAF of stage 2 vs stage 1 and vs normal BP for CVD was 17.4% (11.5-21.8%) and 20.4% (14.6-26.4%), respectively. The GIF of 30% reduction in the prevalence of stage 2 HTN to stage 1 and to normal BP for CVD was 5.1% (3.4-6.6%) and 6.1% (4.4-8.0%), respectively. Based on JNC-IV, the PAF and GIF of 30% for CVD were 17.8% (12.7-22.9%) and 5.4% (4.0-6.9%), respectively.

By reducing the prevalence of HTN by 30%, a remarkable number of new CVD cases would be prevented. link3 In an Iranian population, the comparison of HTN cases with normal BP showed no association between stage 1 HTN and CVD, whereas elevated BP was a significant risk factor for the incidence of CVD.
