Cancer of the larynx occupies the first frequency site of cancer of the upper digestive tract and represents 42% of malignant neoplasms of the upper aero-digestive tract. It is a potentially curable entity if it is diagnosed in early stages.

Characterize the clinical pathological features of patients with laryngeal cancer, which can serve as a guide for diagnostic suspicion in primary and secondary care.

Descriptive study. All the records of patients with an initial diagnosis of primary laryngeal carcinoma undergoing direct micro-laryngoscopy plus biopsy from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2018 were analyzed.

173 new cases of laryngeal carcinoma were diagnosed, the male sex predominated (86%). With an average age of presentation of 65 ± 11 years and a history of smoking in 78.6% (n 136). Dysphonia was the initial symptom in 81% (140) of the patients.

The profile of the patient with laryngeal cancer corresponds to a patient older than 60 years, male, a history of smoking and a history of dysphonia greater than 30 days. Clinically, we will find an epithelial epidermoid moderately differentiated tumor limited to the glottis.

Clozapine (CZP) is an antipsychotic used in resistant psychosis, but has adverse metabolic effects and is associated with new onset or worsening of epileptic seizures (ES). There is not enough information available regarding its effect on metabolic variables and on ES in patients with epilepsy.

To describe the effect of CZP on the metabolic and hematologic profiles, and on ES in patients with epilepsy and with psychosis and/or aggressive behavior.

A case series of patients with epilepsy and psychosis and/or aggressive behavior that received CZP with an 18-week follow-up. Clinical records were assessed from 2008-2018. 30 patients with epilepsy that received CZP were included. A paired analysis (Student’s t-test or Wilcoxon signed rank test) was performed with metabolic variables (glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides), hematologic variables, weight, body mass index (BMI), and monthly ES before and after CZP administration.

The median age to CZP initiation was 31.9 ± 16.07 years. Median CZP dosage was 193 mg/day. There were changes on BMI (p = 0.001; 3.2 kg/m2 increase, median = 3.08), triglycerides (p = 0.002) and glucose (p = 0.030). Weight increase was 7 kg (p = 0.292; median = 4 kg). Monthly ES mean was decreased from 4.9 (median = 2) to 2.04 (median = 1; p = 0.001).

This study provide information regarding the security profile of CZP in patients with epilepsy with psychosis and/or aggressive behavior. A decrease on monthly ES was observed, as well as moderate increases in triglycerides, glucose and BMI, which coincide with that described by other authors.

Food choices and nutritional requirements of women, which vary throughout their life cycle, are unknown for Argentinian women.

To identify Argentinian women’s dietary patterns and their relation to socioeconomic and health characteristics, during puerperium.

The food intake of 249 puerperal women was assessed for a cross-sectional study. Dietary patterns were determined by factor analysis, whose adherence was associated with different variables through Spearman’s correlation and multivariate analyses.

Three patterns were revealed macronutritional (MP), phytochemical (PP) and energetic (EP). Physical activity and family history of cardiometabolic diseases were positively associated to MP adherence (odds ratio [OR] = 2.69 and 2.68, respectively). Women without formal employment adhered less to PP (OR = 0.49). Low educational level increased adherence to EP (OR = 2.20). Body mass index correlated inversely to PP (rho = −0.16). Correspondence analysis revealed that high adherence to MP and PP were associated with formal employment, high educational level, adequate physical activity, normal body mass index and a diverse diet.

Food choices were conditioned by family disease, physical activity, employment, and educational level. We identified three dietary patterns in postpartum women, which constitute an original contribution to future nutritional approaches.

This study evaluated the prevalence of these genes in P. gingivalis isolates from periodontitis patients (n = 28) and in isolates from periodontally healthy P. gingivalis carriers (n = 34). The association of these genes with progression of periodontitis, in vitro cell invasiveness, and bacterial survival following periodontal therapy was also assessed. Periodontal charting and microbiological sampling were done at baseline, and at 6, 12, and 24 months following subgingival debridement of the periodontitis patients. Healthy controls were assessed at baseline for comparison. P. gingivalis isolates were analysed by ragA, ragB, and PG0982 specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Sanger sequencing. Primary human gingival fibroblasts were used for invasion experiments. Results showed that 25% of the tested isolates from the periodontitis group had ragB detected, whereas this gene was undetected in isolates from healthy participants. However, none of the selected genes was associated with an increased cell invasiveness in vitro, with bacterial survival, or with significant clinical periodontal parameter changes. Identification of genes that influence P.gingivalis virulence and therapeutic outcome may have a diagnostic or prognostic value.Gender ideology has widely been discussed in the explanation of wife abuse. However, how men's gender ideology influences wife abuse is quite overlooked in Bangladeshi context. This study examined how various types of gender ideology among men are associated with wife abuse in Bangladesh. It included 342 married men randomly selected from 5 villages. Negative binomial regression was employed to predict the incidence-rate ratio of wife abuse. Of the sample, 55.0% maintained traditional, 31.3% transitional, and 13.7% liberal gender ideologies. On average, the men perpetrated 6.10 abusive acts in a year. Data showed that the rates of overall wife abuse among liberal men were 41% and 48% lower than the traditional and transitional men, respectively. Liberal men also perpetrated less emotional, physical, and sexual abuses than both traditional and transitional men. The study shows that the promotion of liberal gender ideology among men is important for preventing wife abuse. Men should be targeted by diverse violence prevention interventions for enhancing gender equality attitudes. Though the study has provided novel findings in a Bangladeshi context, it was entirely based on male data. Future studies should examine both men's and women's views on the issues.Despite significant research on its electrocatalytic OER activity, the geometric performance of Co3 O4 has remained unsatisfactory compared to relatively amorphous Co-based materials. In particular, the activity of Co3 O4 prepared through annealing always gets inferior compared to its amorphous precursor. This demands the development of synthetic techniques to prepare Co3 O4 with superior activity as the unpredictable crystal structure of the amorphous materials makes it difficult to understand their structure-activity relationships despite higher geometric activity. In this article, we have shown that incorporation of sulfate in pre-annealed materials plays a pivotal role in boosting the OER activity of annealed Co3 O4 irrespective of the pre-annealed phase. In contrast to commonly used nitrate or carbonate that leaves the structure upon annealing and renders the resulting Co3 O4 with poor activity, sulfate remains in the annealed structure due to its thermal stability and causes a dramatic enhancement in thalso etched out in the electrolyte during electrocatalysis leading to complete unblocking of the pores thereby helping in sustaining the high geometric OER activity. To our knowledge, this is the first report where the geometric electrocatalytic OER activity of an annealed Co3 O4 is significantly better compared to its pre-annealed phase and is in fact comparable to the activity of amorphous Co-hydroxide based compounds.Skeletal muscle, a highly active tissue, makes up 40% of the total body weight. This tissue relies on mitochondria for ATP production, calcium homeostasis, and programed cell death. Mitochondrial phospholipid composition, namely, cardiolipin (CL), influences the functional efficiency of mitochondrial proteins, specifically cytochrome c. The interaction of CL with cytochrome c in the presence of free radicals induces structural and functional changes promoting peroxidase activity and cytochrome c release, a key event in the initiation of apoptosis. The CL acyl chain degree of saturation has been implicated in the cytochrome c to cytochrome c peroxidase transition in liposomal models. However, mitochondrial membranes are composed of differing CL acyl chain composition. Currently, it is unclear how differing CL acyl chain composition utilizing liposomes will influence the cytochrome c form and function as a peroxidase. Thus, this study examined the role of CL acyl chain saturation within liposomes broadly reflecting the relative CL composition of mitochondrial membranes from healthy and dystrophic mouse muscle on cytochrome c conformation and function.
