Window Handles

Window handles are available in many different styles and colors to match your home. They operate a locking system concealed within the frame that allows you to open and close your double-glazed windows.

When replacing your handle it is important to check the spindle length. This is how far the nose extends out of the base plate or how far in it will go into the lock.

Espag Handles

Espag handles can be used to operate multi-point locks for double-glazed windows which allows the handle to turn a set of locks around the window for greater security. Our selection of espagnolette handle includes both cranked and straight styles, in various finishes such as chrome, brass and black.

Each handle is made from sturdy die cast zinc that is powder coated or plated to provide high corrosion resistance, impact resistance and protection against wear. They are designed for use on uPVC and aluminium windows equipped with shoot bolt or espagnolette mechanisms. They can be locked in a closed position by using the push button or key to secure the handle.

The espagnolette handle is usually a 7mm squared rod that goes through the backplate of the lever, and into the lock mechanism within the frame of the sash. By turning the handle, you can activate the lock mechanism. It is essential to think about the size of the spindle when selecting the handle you want to use for your window that is espagnolette. This will determine the way it can be opened. The size of the spindle is identified by a number on the handle's backplate such as 5", '3/4" or 2/3" and you'll have to compare this with the handle you have to ensure that it is suitable.

Cranked window handles made of espagnolette are a great alternative to straight handles and are offered in left-handed (opened clockwise) or right-handed (opened anti-clockwise) versions depending on how you open your window. The cranked design provides more clearance to open the window. This is ideal for windows close to the frame.

The cockspur handle can be described as a variation of the espagnolette design, this time with a cockspur nose that closes onto a striker plate in a manner similar as an espagnolette multi-point lock. This handle can be used to repair old cockspur handles on UPVC or aluminium windows.

Both cockspur and cranked handle models can be fitted with a key-lock insert in order to add additional security. These are available in a choice of different hand sizes and include a black blanking plug for those who prefer their window handle unlocked or want to highlight it as fire egress only.

Cockspur Handles

The cockspur is a classic window handle with an elongated spur, or a triangle bit that presses against the wedge on the frame as the handle is closed. They are usually found on older windows made of aluminium or uPVC casement windows that don't have an internal mechanism to secure the frame. Therefore, they rely on the cockspur handle to hold them together.

They are available in a broad selection of nose and nib height options to accommodate different profiles. They're also suitable for left and right hand window systems. They're the perfect solution for those looking to replace a handle that's worn out or damaged, but don't require more complicated internal gadgetry.

Our Sparta window handle is made of top-quality materials and is a favorite choice for a variety of applications. It features a sleek and ergonomic design and comes with a standard deadlock lockable cylinder for increased security. It is available in a variety of backset heights that fit all typical casements. It can be used along with a complete suite of window accessories that match.

In-line cockspur handle models are straight and can turn either left or right, while cranked cockspur handles feature short 'noses that is attached to a striker plate made of plastic that is fixed to the frame. It's simple to operate and is easily locked or unlocked using a key for added security.

Espagnolette handles are generally considered to be more secure than cockspur handles since they utilize a spindle to operate multiple locks hidden within the frame. These handles are the perfect solution for those who need a safe handle for their double-glazing. They come in a variety of styles to suit your home's style.

If you're considering purchasing a brand new set of double-glazed window handles , it's essential to take the time to measure your windows that are already in use and ensure that the dimensions of the spindle and handle will fit in the new frames. You should also make sure to choose an item that meets the minimum requirements of Secured By Design.

Handles that tilt and turn

The functionality and benefits of tilt and turn windows is growing. They come with a variety of opening options, and can be opened differently to let fresh air into the home, or to provide an escape route for fire.

These handles are similar to espagnolette handles, however, they come with additional functions which make them better suited to turn and tilt windows. The lever can be set downwards when it's locked to close the window and 90 degrees to open the window as a door. It can also be moved upwards to open the window as normal.

They feature an innovative multipoint lock mechanism that is more efficient than double-glazed casement window against forced entry. When the handle is closed, the bottom hinge is fitted with locking pins that are embedded in a metal rail that runs through the frame. Two more hinges at the bottom corners can be opened inwards to keep the window in the proper position. This feature is perfect for larger windows, and also allows for better ventilation.

The open mode is activated when the handle is turned to be facing upwards and opens the window using an upward tilt that provides healthy ventilation and makes cleaning much easier than ever before. This is because the sash can be pulled upwards from either side of the window to create a gap that is sufficient for a ladder or stool to fit through.

Tilt-and-turn handles tend to be larger than espag and cockspur handles because they have to be able to handle larger and larger frame sizes. They are spindle-based and use the exact same type of fixings that an ordinary espag handle or cockspur handles uses, but they will have a wider base and usually larger screw centers.

uPVC frames are the most popular windows made of uPVC because they are less expensive than aluminium or timber and don't require painting, however, there are a variety of wood effect finishes available. Aluminium is a second alternative for these types of windows, as it can be painted in any colour to match the look of your home and is lighter than uPVC.

Spade or Blade Handles

It is crucial to select handles that complement the style and functionality. The locking and closing mechanisms of your uPVC window are as important as the frame. This lets you use them effectively and without hassle. It is also important to make sure that the handles last for a long time and not easily break.

One of the most well-known kinds of handles is a blade or spade handle. These are commonly used on tilt and turn or casement style uPVC windows. The lever is used to operate either a catch, latch or multi-point locking mechanism. The catch is attached to mortice stay or peg stay, which is placed within the frame of your windows. It offers an extra level of security and stability.

These handles are typically used on double glazed uPVC casement windows or tilt-and-turn windows. They are designed for better ergonomics and provide more leverage to open the windows, making them easier to open. They are also available in a variety of styles that will suit all interior styles and preferences.

The handle will have a spindle (7mm) protruding from the back. The spindle serves to engage and penetrate the gearbox within the window of the multi-point lock system. This lets the window be locked and closed with greater security. Handles are available in various sizes to fit frames of various sizes. Some manufacturers also provide straight and bent versions.

You can also up the security of your uPVC windows by choosing handles that come with the key lock mechanism. These are great for uPVC doors and windows that are frequently used because they let you secure your window or door from the outside, making it more difficult for burglars to get in by forcing open or manipulating the handle.

There are arguments both for and against a lock handle. We think it is beneficial because it can provide an additional layer of security to your home. Even if you don't believe that intruders are likely to gain entry into your home, the fact that they may have a difficult time getting past the key-locking handles is likely to make them less interested.
