Exposure to fine particulate matter can easily lead to health issues. PM2.5 concentrations are associated with various spatiotemporal factors, which makes the prediction of PM2.5 concentrations still a challenging task. One of the reasons that makes the accurate prediction by statistical learning method difficult is severe fluctuations in input data. In addition, the abstraction method of space will also affect the prediction results. To address these important issues, a novel hybrid decomposing-ensemble and spatiotemporal attention (DESA) model is proposed to improve the prediction accuracy by decomposing the mode-mixed time series into single-mode series and automatically assign weights to the spatiotemporal factors. In our proposed framework, raw PM2.5 series are firstly decomposed into simple sub-series via the complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition (CEEMD) method. Then, to keep the results independent of the spatial abstraction method, a data-driven approach called multiscale spatiotemporal attention network is employed to extract spatiotemporal features from the sub-series. Finally, the predictions of each sub-series are processed separately and combined to obtain the final prediction results. The experimental results indicate that the proposed model achieved the better performance with RMSE of 11.15, 17.49, 24.84, and 26.93 for 6-, 12-, 24-, and 36-h forecasting, respectively. The proposed method is expected to be applied in fine prediction of air pollution and controlling programs and therefore provide decision support or useful guidance. The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, has become a worldwide pest and threatens world food production. A previous study indicated that azadirachtin, the most effective botanical insecticide for S. frugiperda, inhibits larval growth of the insect. The effect of azadirachtin on the tissues of the larvae, however, remains to be determined. In this study, the effects of azadirachtin on the structure of fat bodies were analyzed. Comparative transcriptomic analysis was conducted between controls and samples treated with 0.1 μg/g azadirachtin for 7 days to explore potential relevant mechanisms. The expression of 5356 genes was significantly affected after azadirachtin treatment, with 3020 up-regulated and 2336 down-regulated. Among them, 137 encode detoxification enzymes, including 53 P450s, 20 GSTs, 27 CarEs, 16 UGTs, and 12 ABC transporters. Our results indicated that azadirachtin could destroy fat body structure and change the mRNA levels of detoxification-related genes. The up-regulated genes encoding detoxification enzymes might be related to detoxifying azadirachtin. Our results elucidate a preliminary mechanism of azadirachtin detoxification in the fat bodies of S. frugiperda larvae.Freshwater and energy are critical components for the growth and progress of societies. The scarcity of freshwater and rapid population growth, especially in remote countries, has led to an urgent need to develop desalination technologies in order to raise its productivity and reduce its energy consumption rates. Membrane distillation is one of the effective methods characterized by its high productivity, but its disadvantage by higher electricity consumption. Selleck Infigratinib Also, solar stills are one of the sustainable and economical technologies, but the disadvantage by lower productivity. Accordingly, this manuscript dealt with a comprehensive review and detailed comparison of the most important modifications and innovations that were made to the design of the membrane distillation units, which aim to reduce electricity consumption rates, as well as the design of solar stills, which aims to maximize the productivity and efficiency. This was done by providing a detailed comparison of the most important three axes of modifications and innovations that were addressed by recent previous studies on the design of membrane distillation units and solar stills, and their statement as follows preheating technology, use of the thermal storage materials, and nanomaterials technology. Finally, based on this review, the authors make some recommendations for future work in the field of solar and membrane desalination.Reduced sulfur compounds are a nuisance in coastal industries causing heavy economical as well as ecological loss. One such compound, hydrogen sulfide, is proven toxic to aquatic animals as it interferes with their respiration and metabolism as well as overall development, thereby causing direct increase in mortality. Typically, 96-h LC50 values to freshwater and marine fishes are 0-25µM and 525-700µM, respectively. Management of sulfide and other reduced sulfur compounds from aquaculture water and sediment using bioremediating sulfur-oxidizing bacteria as probiotics has attracted attention in recent decades due to its efficiency and minimized environmental effects. In the present study, 201 native and indigenous probiotic candidates were isolated, from various coastal environments. The prospective candidates were screened based on pH reduction and 19 sulfur-oxidizing bacteria were selected and tested for salt tolerance. Further screening was done based on biosafety, ability to produce sulfate by oxidizing thiosulfate, and 16S rRNA-based identification to obtain nine probiotic candidates. Three strains (Enterobacter ludwigii HS1-SOB, Pseudomonas stutzeri B6-SOB, and Cytobacillus firmus C8-SOB) exerting highest sulfate-ion production were selected for formulating a probiotic consortium using mixture design matrix. The optimal composition was determined to be equal ratios of the three isolates that yielded 0.083 mM of sulfate from thiosulfate broth medium at room temperature in 7 days. This is a standalone report of sulfur-oxidizing probiotic consortium composed of the said bacteria. The consortium may be used as a strong tool for remediation of reduced sulfur in aquaculture and associated coastal environments. In the present work, halloysite nanotubes modified with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs-HNT) are successfully prepared by wet chemical method for the catalytic degradation of phenothiazine dyes (azure B (AZB) and toluidine blue O (TBO)) and also cleaner reduction of 4-(4-nitrophenyl)morpholine (4NM) in the sodium borohydride (NaBH4) media. The catalyst is formulated by modifying the HNT support with a 0.964% metal loading using the HNT supports modified with 3-aminopropyl-trimethoxysilane (APTMS) coupling agent to facilitate the anchoring sites to trap the AuNPs and to prevent their agglomeration/aggregation. The AuNPs-HNT catalyst is investigated for structural and morphological characterization to get insights about the formation of the catalyst for the effective catalytic reduction of dyes and 4NM. The microscopic studies demonstrate that AuNPs (2.75 nm) are decorated on the outer surface of HNT. The as-prepared AuNPs-HNT catalyst demonstrates AZB and TBO dye degradation efficiency up to 96% in 10 and 11 min, respectively, and catalytic reduction of 4NM to 4-morpholinoaniline (MAN) is achieved up to 97% in 11 min, in the presence of NaBH4 without the formation of any by-products. The pseudo-first-order rate constant (K1) value of the AuNPs-HNT catalyst for AZB, TBO, and 4NM were calculated to be 0.0078, 0.0055, and 0.0066 s-1, respectively. Moreover, the synthesized catalyst shows an excellent reusability with stable catalytic reduction for 7 successive cycles for both the dyes and 4NM. A plausible mechanism for the catalytic dye degradation and reduction of 4NM by AuNPs-HNT catalyst is proposed as well. The obtained results clearly indicate the potential of AuNPs-HNT as an efficient catalyst for the removal of dye contaminants from the aquatic environments and cleaner reduction of 4NM to MAN, insinuating future pharmaceutical applications.Measuring the risks of the carbon financial market is of great significance for investment decision-making, risk supervision, and the healthy development of the carbon trading market. Different from previous studies based on traditional VaR (value at risk), this study measures the integrated risk of China's carbon market based on the Copula-EVT (Extreme Value Theory) -VaR model which can explore the unique strength of the copula and EVT-VaR models, of which the copula model is applied to capture the dependence between the different risk factors of carbon price volatility and macroeconomic fluctuation, while the EVT-VaR is used to explore the risk value. The empirical results show that the traditional VaR that only considers a single risk factor from carbon price volatility is likely to overestimate the risk. In addition, compared with other methods that do not consider the interdependence between risk factors, using the copula function to measure the carbon market integration risk is more effective, and backtesting also confirms this conclusion. This paper provides a specific reference for carbon emission companies to participate in the carbon market. It provides a theoretical basis for the supervision of the risk management of the carbon market. Many animals have polka dot patterns on their body surface, some of which are known to have signalling functions; however, their evolutionary origins remain unclear. Dot patterns can trigger a fear response (trypophobia) in humans and are known to function as aposematic signals in non-human animals, suggesting that dots may deserve attention for biological reasons. Interestingly in many birds, plumage dot patterns serve for social/sexual signalling. To understand their evolution, we have focused on the sensory bias hypothesis, which predicts the role of pre-existing sensory preference driven by natural selection in shaping signal design. Our previous phylogenetic comparative study supported the hypothesis and showed that diet-driven visual preference promoted the evolution of plumage patterns, as there was an evolutionary correlation between termite-eating (white roundish gregarious prey) and the presence of plumage dot patterns in species of the family Estrildidae. This suggests that these species possess an intrinsic preference for dots. To test this, we compared the responses of an Estrildid species with dot plumage pattern (star finch Neochmia ruficauda) towards simultaneously presented monochrome-printed white dot vs white stripe patterns under both food-deprived and -supplied conditions. Overall, star finches preferred dots to stripes. They showed foraging-like behaviours almost only toward dots when hungry and gazed at dots frequently even when food was available, suggesting both hunger-related and hunger-neutral dot preferences. These results are rather surprising, given how strongly the subjects were attracted to abstract dot patterns without organic structure, but provided good support for the sensory bias hypothesis.

A small but growing body of evidence suggests individualized support services and improved access to contraception can promote healthy birth spacing among adolescent mothers. This study examines the effectiveness of Steps to Success, a 2-year home visiting program in San Angelo, Texas, enhanced with content designed to reduce rapid repeat pregnancy among young mothers, increase fathers' involvement, and support mothers' education and career aspirations.

The study used a randomized controlled trial, with 594 young mothers ages 14-20 randomly assigned to either a program group that received Steps to Success or a control group that received an existing home visiting program focused only on parenting and child development. Women in both research groups completed a baseline survey upon enrolling in the study and 1- and 2-year follow-up surveys.

After 2years, participants in the Steps to Success and existing home visiting groups had similar rates of repeat pregnancy. However, women in the Steps to Success group were more likely to use long-acting reversible contraceptives (effect size = 0.
