This study provides novel evidence of lasting neurophysiological changes in PCS.

This study provides novel evidence of lasting neurophysiological changes in PCS.A work on the design and construction of an integrated tetrafluoroethane (R134a) refrigerator-waste heat recovery dryer suitable for use in tropical regions is presented. The system comprises of a refrigerator with its condenser unit retrofitted to serve as the heat recovery mechanism and a drying chamber. The refrigerator had a vapour compression cycle driven by environmentally friendly R134a working fluid (refrigerant). The dryer component was powered by heat dissipated by the condenser piping from the exit of the compressor (superheat region) to the entrance of the sub-cooled region. The maximum drying temperature attained during pre-loading test was 49 °C while the evaporator provided cooling at a temperature of 5 °C. The specific moisture extraction rate of the dryer varied over 0.19-0.22 kg/kW.hr while 150W of cooling was produced at the evaporator in all cases. #link# The energy utilization ratio obtained was 0.92, indicating that 92% of the waste heat recovered was actually utilized. The system coefficient of performance was estimated to be 10.09 thus indicating that the energy derived from IRWHRD was 10 times the energy it consumed. Application potentials therefore exist for use of this dual purpose system for simultaneous production of refrigeration and heating. Storage of food and drying of fabrics make the IRWHRD an option for use in both agricultural development and entrepreneurship development in laundry business. This study was designed to explore and record various medicinal plants integrated into the traditional system of medicine for the treatment of cancer. The traditional system of medicine is a routine practiced among the indigenous ethnic groups of Sokoto state. A semi-structured questionnaire was designed and used for data collection around the selected Local Government Areas. A substantial number of plant species were identified, recorded, and collected for preservation. Data collected for each specie was analysed to assess its frequent use among the medicinal plants. A total of 67 species belonging to 31 families have been identified and recorded. Out of the 473 frequency of citation (FC), Acacia nilotica was the most frequently cited specie (32 FC, 64% FC, 0.6 RFC), followed by Guiera senegalensis (27 FC, 54% FC, 0.5 RFC), Erythrina sigmoidea (17 FC, 34% FC, 0.3 RFC), and subsequently Combretum camporum (15 FC, 30% FC, 0.3 RFC). The most common parts of the plants used include the barks (55.2%), the roots (53.2%), and the leaves (41.8%). Additionally, decoction (74.6%), powdered form (49.3%), and maceration (46.3%) are the most frequently used mode of preparation. The historical knowledge of a traditional system of medicine practiced by the native traditional healers of Sokoto for the treatment of cancer has been documented. The present study further provides a baseline for future pharmacological investigations into the beneficial effects of such medicinal plants for the treatment of cancer.Malacca Strait (MS) has an important role and potential for many countries. It is a major transportation route for oil and commodities across continents. In addition, various activities such as shipping, fishing, aquaculture, oil drilling, and energy are also carried out in MS. Tides strongly affect the MS environment so that it becomes a major parameter in MS management. This paper is the first study, which presents MS tidal hydrodynamics based on a baroclinic and nonhydrostatic approach. Tidal hydrodynamics in MS and the surrounding waters were assessed using tidal forces, temperature, salinity, and density. This study analyzes the amplitude, phase, current ellipses, and semi-major axis of the tides. link2 These variables are obtained from the simulation results of the three-dimensional numerical models of M2 tides and combined tides (M2, S2, N2, K1, and O1) with nonhydrostatic models. Then the results obtained are verified by observation data. Amplitude and phase of the tidal wave in MS originate from two directions, namely the northern part of MS (Andaman Sea) and the South China Sea (SCS). Tides from the north of MS propagate into the MS, while tides from the SCS travel to Singapore Waters (SW) and the south of MS. link3 This causes a complex residual flow in SW and shoaling in the middle of MS. Shoaling in the middle of MS is characterized by a large amplitude and semi-major, as in B. Siapiapi. The results of this analysis show that tidal waves are dominated by semidiurnal types rather than diurnal types. The M2 current ellipse has dominantly anticlockwise rotation along the west of the MS, while along the east of MS, it has generally a clockwise rotation. We first present a predator-prey model for two species and then extend the model to three species where the two predator species engage in mutualistic predation. Constant effort harvesting and the impact of by-catch issue are also incorporated. Necessary sufficient conditions for the existence and stability of positive equilibrium points are examined. It is shown that harvesting is sustainable, and the memory concept of the fractional derivative damps out oscillations in the population numbers so that the system as a whole settles on an equilibrium quicker than it would with integer time derivatives. Finally, some possible physical explanations are given for the obtained results. It is shown that the stability requires the memory concept in the model.

The association of Vitamin D and children with asthma is known and there are several individual studies on Vitamin D polymorphisms. However, systematic reviews on all vitamin D associated gene polymorphisms have not been done in children with asthma.

To investigate the association of Vitamin D associated gene polymorphisms and asthma in children (0-18 years) by systematic review and meta-analytic approach.

Our search included 20 full text articles of which 15 were case control studies and 5 used family based linkage disequilibrium method. Total of 2491cases and 3682 controls were included in case control studies, with mean age of 9.58 years and 10.16 years respectively. Quantitative and qualitative analysis were done.

Quantitative analysis revealed significant association with protective effect of Apa1 polymorphism in allele (OR 0.81 (0.71,0.91) and homozygous major form (OR 0.83 (0.70,0.98) and Taq 1 minor allele in homozygous form (OR 0.73 (0.58,0.92) in children with asthma. However, the minor allelated to Vitamin D response element (VDRE) in children with asthma. Conducting large studies involving various ethnic regions will strengthen our knowledge on the association and aid in targeted interventions for control of asthma in children. The purpose of this paper is to measure the systemic risk contributions of Turkish banks and to identify the systemically important banks of Turkey during the period from 2005 to 2016. We apply the conditional value-at-risk (CoVaR) method proposed by Adrian and Brunnermeier (2009) using quantile regression. The study includes thirteen major banks of Turkey, including both public and private banks, out of a total of 52 banks. The banks are ranked in terms of their systemic risk contribution to the Turkish financial system based on their asset returns, macroeconomic variables and individual bank variables. The study reveals that Akbank, Garanti, Yapi Kredi and Isbank have the highest systemic risk contribution to the financial system when adding macroeconomic variables to the model. This ranking is changed to Yapi Kredi, Garanti, TEB, Sekerbank and Akbank when taking into account bank-specific variables. One surprising result is that risk in isolation and the spillover risks of public banks are smaller than in large private banks. Furthermore, the marginal systemic risk contributions of public banks are smaller than those of private banks. In conclusion, authorities improve the regulatory framework according to the context of CoVaR in addition to monitor the idiosyncratic risks of banks.

Several standards have been developed to assess methodological quality of systematic reviews (SR). One widely used tool is the AMSTAR. A recent update - AMSTAR 2 - is a 16 item evaluation tool that enables a detailed assessment of SR that include randomised (RCT) or non-randomised studies (NRS) of healthcare interventions.

A cross-sectional study of SR on pharmacological or psychological interventions in major depression in adults was conducted. SR published during 2012-2017 were sampled from MEDLINE, EMBASE and the Cochrane Database of SR. Methodological quality was assessed using AMSTAR 2. Potential predictive factors associated with quality were examined.

In rating overall confidence in the results of 60 SR four reviews were rated "high", two were "moderate", one was "low" and 53 were "critically low". The mean AMSTAR 2 percentage score was 45.3% (standard deviation 22.6%) in a wide range from 7.1% to 93.8%. Predictors of higher quality were type of review (higher quality in Cochrane Reviews), SR including only randomized trials and higher journal impact factor.

AMSTAR 2 is not intended to be used for the generation of a percentage score.

According to AMSTAR 2 the overall methodological quality of SR on the treatment of adult major depression needs improvement. Although there is a high need for summarized information in the field of mental health, this work demonstrates the need to critically assess SR before using their findings. Better adherence to established reporting guidelines for SR is needed.

SBI-477 inhibitor is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the United States. The advent of left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) has improved the survival and quality of life in patients with end stage heart failure. Gastrointestinal bleeding (GIb) remains one of the limitations of LVADs.

A single center, retrospective review of records was performed for patients who underwent LVAD implantation between 2010 and 2015. All patients who survived more than 30 days were followed till March 2016 and are described below.

A total of 79 patients were included in the study. The rate of GIb was 34.1% (27 patients) with a mean time to bleed of 267 days. Older patients were more likely to bleed. Upper GI bleeding was the source of bleeding in 54% patients. Arteriovenous malformations (AVM) were the source of bleeding in 74% bleeders and 80% of these patients had

AVM formation. 14/27 (51%) patients had a re-bleeding event. Thrombotic events were 4.5 times more likely to occur in patients who also had a GI bleed.

GI bleeding in LVAD patients is common with the source of bleeding more commonly being in the upper GI tract. GI bleeding may occur as early as 10 days post procedure, despite previous negative screening endoscopies. There is an increased risk of thrombotic events in patients who have experienced a GI bleed.
