Finally, proof of concept experiment in utilizing biomass derived pentose sugar, xylose, for xylonic acid production was also carried out and obtained 42.94 g/L xylonic acid from 60 g/L xylose. These results promise a significant value addition for the future bio refinery programs. The objective of the current study was to develop ziprasidone hydrochloride monohydrate (ZHM) nanocrystal-based orally dispersible tablet (ODT) formulations. Design of experiment approach was used to develop ODTs. The tablets were compressed using direct compression method and characterized with quality control tests. In vitro dissolution studies and Caco-2 cell permeability tests were executed. The hardness and friability values of nanocrystal-based ODTs were found 31.2 N and 1.05%, respectively. The disintegration time was below 10 s. Dissolution profile in pH 7.4 phosphate buffer showed that nanocrystal-based ODTs and commercial product were dissolved in 120 min 58.98% and 16%, respectively. In pH 7.4 phosphate buffer with SLS, sample groups dissolved above 85% at the end of the study. Permeability value and cumulative ZHM amount on the cells were improved with nanocrystals. In conclusion, the novel formulation of ZHM nanocrystal-based ODTs was successfully developed for alternative dosage form.INTRODUCTION Myasthenia gravis (MG) can be aggravated by several classes of drugs, including antibiotics. PTX inhibitor in vivo Penicillins are considered safe drugs for the management of infectious disease in patients with MG. However, a few cases of MG exacerbations after penicillin treatment have been reported in literature. CASE REPORTS We report six patients with MG developing acute worsening of symptoms after amoxicillin or amoxicillin/clavulanate treatment. In most of the cases, symptoms started in a few days after antibiotic administration. In all cases, we observed a worsening of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) clinical classification. Most patients required a therapeutic intervention with dosage increase of the previous therapy or the introduction of new drugs for MG. All patients had a full recovery to baseline neurological conditions within 1-2 months. CONCLUSIONS We concluded that patients receiving amoxicillin should be closely monitored for possible acute relapse.INTRODUCTION Existing osteoporosis models in sheep exhibit some disadvantages, e.g., challenging surgical procedures, serious ethical concerns, failure of reliable induction of substantial bone loss, or lack of comparability to the human condition. This study aimed to compare bone morphological and mechanical properties of old and young sheep, and to evaluate the suitability of the old sheep as a model for senile osteopenia. MATERIALS AND METHODS The lumbar vertebral body L3 of female merino sheep with two age ranges, i.e., old animals (6-10 years; n = 41) and young animals (2-4 years; n = 40), was analyzed concerning its morphological and mechanical properties by bone densitometry, quantitative histomorphometry, and biomechanical testing of the corticalis and/or central spongious region. RESULTS In comparison with young sheep, old animals showed only marginally diminished bone mineral density of the vertebral bodies, but significantly decreased structural (bone volume, - 15.1%; ventral cortical thickness, - 11.8%; lateral cortical thickness, - 12.2%) and bone formation parameters (osteoid volume, osteoid surface, osteoid thickness, osteoblast surface, all - 100.0%), as well as significantly increased bone erosion (eroded surface, osteoclast surface). This resulted in numerically decreased biomechanical properties (compressive strength; - 6.4%). CONCLUSION Old sheep may represent a suitable model of senile osteopenia with markedly diminished bone structure and formation, and substantially augmented bone erosion. The underlying physiological aging concept reduces challenging surgical procedures and ethical concerns and, due to complex alteration of different facets of bone turnover, may be well representative of the human condition. The Arum palaestinum plant is one of the 26 species of the Arum genus of the Araceae family. This plant species is found through the Mediterranean region, Western Asia, and Europe. The leaves and seeds of the plant contain needle-shaped oxalate crystals that can irritate the affected tissue (skin, oral cavity, or GI tract) upon exposure. Up to this date, there is no available literature supporting the epidemiology or the clinical manifestations of poisoning by this plant. We retrospectively reviewed all Arum palaestinum exposures to children younger than 18 years of age reported to the Israel National Poison Information Center during 2017 from the IPIC computerized data system. We extracted demographic data and clinical data from those digital files. We reviewed the files of 53 patients' files and found slight male predominance (58% vs. 42%), and the age of exposure ranged from 9 month to 15 years. The main site of exposure was at home in most cases (47%) followed by outdoor exposure in 40% of the cases. In 6 exposure. In previously healthy subjects, vulvar ulcers are mostly caused by sexually transmitted microorganisms. Lipschütz's acute vulvar ulceration, first reported in 1912, is a non-sexually acquired condition characterized by sudden onset of a few genital ulcers. We systematically review presentation, underlying causes, and disease duration of Lipschütz's ulceration. A comprehensive source of Excerpta Medica, National Library of Medicine, and Web of Science databases was performed. Reports including cases of apparently previously healthy females affected by Lipschütz's ulceration were selected. A predefined database was used to extract data on demographics, history, clinical and microbiological findings, and treatment. The search disclosed 158 cases. Almost 90% of cases were ≤ 20 years of age and sexually inactive. Lesions were usually one to about three, painful, ≥ 10 mm large, well-delimited, with a fibrinous and necrotic center and a symmetric distribution. Voiding disorders and enlarged inguinal lymph nodes were 0 years of age, tends to resolve within 3 weeks, and is usually temporarily associated with a flu-like illness or an infectious mononucleosis syndrome. • Systemic corticosteroids do not reduce disease duration.
