In this study, we have characterized the products in liquid form resulting from the co-cracking of residual fuel oil (RFO) with plastic waste in an isothermal condition. The characterization was carried out using nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR & 13C NMR), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), bomb calorimetry, and ultimate analyzer, in addition to the characterization of the flashpoint, pour point, and density. As a result of co-cracking, the liquid exhibits a significant decline in the overall molecular weight and an increase in the content of saturated aliphatic carbon and a decrease in the protonated aromatic carbons with aliphatic compounds as the primary constituent were observed from the spectra, having a pour point of 291.15-192.15 K and high calorific values between 42-45 MJ/kg. The characteristics of the liquid reveal a synergistic effect of co-cracking and demonstrate the potential of the co-cracking process of waste plastics with residual fuel to be an alternate source of energy and added-value chemical product recovery routes.

Gliosarcomas are extremely rare malignant brain tumors, which can be classified as primary gliosarcoma (PGS) if the tumors arise de novo or secondary gliosarcoma (SGS) in patients who had previously been treated for glioblastoma. Given their rarity, it is unclear if PGS is clinically and genetically different from SGS. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the clinicopathological features, prognostic survivals, and molecular profiles of these rare tumors.

We searched PubMed and Web of Science for relevant studies. Odds ratio (OR), hazard ratio (HR), and their 95% confidence intervals (CI) were pooled using the random-effect model.

We included eight studies with 239 PGS and 79 SGS for meta-analyses. Compared to PGS, SGS occurred at a younger age and had lower rates of gross total resection and radiation therapy. Bevacizumab was more commonly administered in SGS. SGS patients had a significantly worse PFS (HR 0.60; 95% CI 0.40-0.89) and OS (HR 0.46; 95% CI 0.31-0.68) in comparison to PGS. The incidences of EGFR mutation, IDH mutation, and MGMT methylation were not statistically different between PGS and SGS.

Our results demonstrated that PGS and SGS had distinct clinicopathological profiles and prognoses but shared similar genetic profiles. This study facilitates our understanding of how these two malignant brain tumors behave clinically, but future studies will be required to elucidate the genetic pathways of PGS and SGS.

In order to decipher the role of TCFL5 during in vivo spermatogenesis, we generated two mouse models. Ubiquitous removal of TCFL5 generated by breeding TCFL5fl/fl with SOX2-Cre mice resulted in sterile males being unable to produce spermatozoa due to a dramatic alteration of the testis architecture presenting meiosis arrest and lack of spermatids. SYCP3, SYCP1 and H1T expression analysis showed that TCFL5 deficiency causes alterations during pachytene/diplotene transition resulting in a meiotic arrest in a diplotene-like stage. This study sought to test whether there were differences in the quantity of deposited At-AMFs collected when comparing three different surface sampler areas (small 0.0113 m2 (Φ = 120 mm), medium 0.0254 m2 (Φ = 180 mm) and large 0.0346 m2 (Φ = 210 mm)). The analysis revealed no statistically significant variation in the number of At-AMFs recorded, when data was presented in At-AMFs per m2 day-1. However, our findings indicate that for any given individual sampling event, the amount of deposition can range by ∼ 150 to 200 At-AMFs m2 d-1 even if samplers are kept relatively close together. To account for this, we would recommend that future studies collect data in duplicate or triplicate. Our results suggest that data can be compared across different sites and geographical regions-at least if comparing the overall mean and standard deviation of all samples collected. To rule out selection bias or introduction of artefacts caused by EV isolation techniques, we present a clinically feasible, imaging flow cytometry (IFCM)-based methodology to phenotype and determine the concentration of EVs with a diameter ≤400 nm in human platelet-poor plasma (PPP) without prior isolation of EVs. Instrument calibration (both size and fluorescence) were performed with commercial polystyrene beads. Detergent treatment of EVs was performed to discriminate true vesicular events from artefacts. Using a combination of markers (CFSE & Tetraspanins, or CD9 & CD31) we found that >90% of double-positive fluorescent events represented single EVs. Through this work, we provide a framework that will allow the application of IFCM for EV analysis in peripheral blood plasma in a plethora of experimental and potentially diagnostic settings. The study aimed to assess intra- and inter-examination reproducibility of T2 mapping for TMJ evaluation at 3.0 Tesla (T). Seventeen volunteers, regardless of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) diagnosis, received magnetic resonance (MR) examination at 3.0 T. T2 mapping was performed twice (> 5 min between sessions without repositioning) on 12 volunteers to ensure intra-examination reproducibility. Nine volunteers underwent two examinations (> 6 months) to ensure inter-examination reproducibility. The regions of interest (ROIs) of the articular disc and retrodiscal tissue were manually selected and calculated. The mean T2 values of the articular disc and retrodiscal tissue were 25.3 ± 3.0 and 30.0 ± 4.1 ms, respectively. T2 mapping showed excellent intra-examination intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) for both articular disc (0.923) and retrodiscal tissue (0.951). Very strong correlations (r) were observed in both articular disc (0.928) and retrodiscal tissue (0.953) (P  less then  .001). Inter-examination reproducibility also demonstrated that the ICCs were excellent (0.918, 0.935) on both ROIs. T2 values between first and second examinations were strongly correlated (r = 0.921, 0.939) (P  less then  .001). Societies are becoming increasingly multi-cultural and multi-ethnic, and there are limited investigations into the underlying neural mechanism of the baby schema effect in a multi-ethnic context. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was used to examine parents' (N = 27) neural responses to (a) non-own ethnic in-group and out-group infants, (b) non-own in-group and own infants, and (c) non-own out-group and own infants. Parents showed similar brain activations, regardless of ethnicity and kinship, in regions associated with attention, reward processing, empathy, memory, goal-directed action planning, and social cognition. The same regions were activated to a higher degree when viewing the parents' own infant. These findings contribute further understanding to the dynamics of baby schema effect in an increasingly interconnected social world.
