To develop a 3-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) model regarding Grade Group and tumor extent in collaboration with uroradiologists and uropathologists for optimal treatment planning for prostate cancer.

We studied the data from 83 patients with prostate cancer who underwent multiparametric MRI and subsequent MRI-transrectal ultrasound fusion biopsy and radical prostatectomy. A 3-dimensional MRI model was constructed by integrating topographic information of MRI-based segmented lesions, biopsy paths, and histopathologic information of biopsy specimens. The multiparametric MRI-integrated Grade Group and laterality were assessed by using the 3-dimensional MRI model and compared with the radical prostatectomy specimen.

The MRI-defined index tumor was concordant with radical prostatectomy in 94.7% (72 of 76) of cases. The multiparametric Mimensional model incorporating MRI and MRI-transrectal ultrasound fusion biopsy information easily recognized the spatial distribution of MRI-visible and MRI-nonvisible cancer and provided better Grade Group correlation with radical prostatectomy specimens but still requires validation.

To identify and utilize gene signatures for the prognostic evaluation of postoperative patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

The gene mRNA expression profiles and corresponding clinicopathological data of postoperative patients with HCC were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Highly differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in tumor tissues compared to adjacent tissues were identified, and their associations with the overall survival (OS) of HCC patients were analyzed. The strongly associated genes were used to develop a prognostic score for the survival stratification of HCC, and the underlying mechanisms were analyzed using bioinformatics.

) were independently associated with OS. A prognostic score derived from the four genes could effectively stratify HCC patients with different OS outcomes, independent of clinical parameters. The emergence of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) B.1.1.7 variant in England in 2020 and subsequent global spread emphasized the need to understand epidemiologic characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 variants. A diagnostic proxy for this variant, referred to as S-gene target failure, provided a rich dataset to assess transmissibility of the variant in an analysis of clustering in residential settings.

We used a pair-matched case-control study design to estimate odds of onward transmission within households with S-gene target failure index cases versus nontarget failure index cases. We defined cases as the index in a household cluster (clustered case) and controls as a case with no subsequent household cluster (sporadic). We matched clustered and sporadic cases one-to-one on specimen week, geography, and property type. We used conditional logistic regression, adjusting for age, sex, ethnicity, and symptom status, to assess odds of residential clustering.

Our study population comprised 57,244 individuals with specimen dates from 23 November 2020 to 4 January 2021. Crude analysis yielded 54% increased odds (odds ratio [OR] = 1.5; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.5, 1.6) of residential clustering associated with S-gene target failure; the association remained in the fully adjusted model (OR = 1.6, 95% CI = 1.5, 1.6). Stratified analyses by region showed increased odds of residential clustering associated with target failure in all regions apart from the Southwest, where we observed lower precision. Similar adjusted odds ratios with precise confidence intervals remained in stratified analyses by property category.

Endometrial serous carcinoma is well known for its high risk of extrauterine spread, even when the intrauterine tumor is minimal in volume and limited to the endometrium. Representing the earliest recognizable forms of endometrial serous carcinoma, minimal uterine serous carcinoma (MUSC) includes serous endometrial intraepithelial carcinoma and superficial serous carcinoma.

To discuss the pathogenetic relationship between MUSC and endometrial polyp, and to review the pathologic diagnosis and clinical implication of MUSC.

Frailty is common in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), with possible impact on therapies and outcomes. However, definitions of frailty are variable, and may not overlap with frailty perception among physicians. We evaluated the prevalence of frailty as perceived by enrolling physicians in the Edoxaban Treatment in Routine Clinical Practice for Patients With Non-Valvular AF (ETNA-AF)-Europe registry (NCT02944019), and compared it with an objective frailty assessment.

ETNA-AF-Europe is a prospective, multi-centre, post-authorization, observational study. There we assessed the presence of frailty according to (i) a binary subjective investigators' judgement and (ii) an objective measure, the Modified Frailty Index. Baseline data on frailty were available in 13 621/13 980 patients. Prevalence of perceived frailty was 10.6%, with high variability among participating countries and healthcare settings (range 5.9-19.6%). Although it is well documented that estrogen hormone is positively associated with bone mineral density and lower risk of fracture, there are limited studies on the association between duration of endogenous estrogen exposure (EEE) and fracture, especially by longitudinal design.

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between EEE with fracture incidence by longitudinal design in a community-based study.

A total of 5269 eligible postmenarcheal women, including 2411 premenopausal and 2858 menopausal women, were recruited from among the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study. Cox proportional hazards regression model with adjustment of potential confounders was performed to assess the relationship between duration of EEE and incident of any hospitalized fractures.

A total of 26.7% (1409/5269) women were menopausal at the baseline, and 2858 of the remaining participants reached menopause at the end of follow-up. Results of the unadjusted model demonstrated that the EEE z-score was negatively associated with fracture incidence [unadjusted hazard ratio (HR) 0.81, 95% CI 0.68-0.96] in postmenarchal women, indicating that per 1-SD increase of EEE z-score, the hazard of fracture reduced by 19%. Results remained statistically unchanged after adjustment for potential confounders (adjusted HR 0.70, 95% CI 0.58-0.86).

The findings of this cohort study suggest that a longer duration of EEE has a protective effect on fracture incidence; a point that needs to be considered in fracture risk assessment.

To investigate sleep patterns in the camel by combining behavioral and polysomnography (PSG) methods.

A noninvasive PSG study was conducted over four nights on four animals. Additionally, video recordings were used to monitor the sleep behaviors associated with different vigilance states.

During the night, short periods of sporadic sleep-like behavior corresponding to a specific posture, sternal recumbency (SR) with the head lying down on the ground, were observed. The PSG results showed rapid shifts between five vigilance states, including wakefulness, drowsiness, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, non-REM (NREM) sleep, and rumination. The camels typically slept only 1.7 hours per night, subdivided into 0.5 hours of REM sleep and 1.2 hours of NREM sleep. Camels spent most of the night being awake (2.3 hours), ruminating (2.4 hours), or drowsing (1.9 hours). Various combinations of transitions between the different vigilance states were observed, with a notable transition into REM sleep directly from drowsiness (9%) or wakefulness (4%).
