Out of these four methods, classification tree methods (REPTree and RF) performed better than cluster methods (MLP and k-NN) for agricultural and forested watersheds. Our results indicated that both the data structure based on the dominant land use and type of algorithmic method should be carefully considered for selecting a data mining method to predict nitrate concentration and load for a watershed. The adverse health effects of haze and particle-bound contaminants in China have recently caused increasing concern, and particle size plays a significant role in affecting human exposure to haze-correlated pollutants. To this background, size-segregated particulate samples (nine size fractions ( 9.0 μm) were collected in three scale-gradient cities in northern China and analysed for a series of parent, oxygenated and chlorinated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs, O-PAHs and Cl-PAHs). The total geometric mean concentrations of PAHs and O-PAHs for Beijing, Zhengzhou and Xinxiang were 98.1 and 27.2, 77.9 and 77.5, 41.0 and 30.7 ng m-3, respectively, which were 50-200 times higher than those for Cl-PAHs (0.5, 0.7 and 0.4 ng m-3). Though unimodal size-distribution patterns were found for all these contaminants for these three cities, PAHs represented distinctly higher concentration levels around the peak fraction (0.7-2.1 μm) than O-PAHs and Cl-PAHs. With 4-6 ring PAHs as dominant components in all samples, the percentage proportion of 2-3 ring PAHs (ranging from 1% to 26%) generally increased with particle size increasing, implying the sources of these compounds varied little among the 9 size fractions in all three cities. The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) model and permeability coefficient method were synchronously applied to the size-segregated data for inhalation and dermal exposure assessment to intensively estimate the human exposure doses to airborne PAHs. Further, the incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) was calculated and it's found that ILCR from inhalation was higher than that from dermal uptake for children and adults in Beijing and Zhengzhou, while the ILCR for Xinxiang presented a contrary pattern, revealing dermal uptake to be an equally significant exposure pathway to airborne PAHs compared to inhalation.Microplastics (MPs) are an uncontrolled contaminant affecting marine ecosystems. Studying their undesirable effects has been an attractive field for scientists in recent years. This study is the first to investigate the uptake and distribution of small microplastics (≤3 μm) from several sites in the Southern Mediterranean coasts. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/bay-2402234.html This work primarilyaims to provide a qualitative and quantitative analysis of microplastics in sediments as well as in the seaworms (Hediste diversicolor) from eight sites from the Tunisian coasts using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman microspectroscopy. The second aim is to evaluate the potential toxic effects of environmental microplastics using a set of biomarkers such as Catalase, Glutathione-S-Transferase, Malondialdehyde and Acetylcholinesterase. Our findings showed that microplastics (1 mm-1.2 μm) were present in all sediments with its abundance ranging from 129 to 606 items kg-1. Microplastic accumulation in seaworms (3 μm-0.22 μm) was 0.5-3.7 items g-1. The predominant polymer was polyethylene. Results also revealed a significant variation among sites in the parameters associated with oxidative stress. Thus, size abundance of microplastics in seaworms was mainly correlated with oxidative stress biomarkers. Our data should be carefully considered in view of the microplastic presence with several types and sizes in Tunisian coastal sites, their potential toxic effects, and their transfer into food web.Uncertainty assessment of parameters associated with non-point source pollution mechanism modeling are crucial for improving the effectiveness of pollution controlling. In this study, an approach based on Bayesian inference and integrated Markov chain Monte Carlo and multilevel factorial analysis has been developed, and it can not only apply straightforward Bayesian inference to assess parameter uncertainties, but also quantitatively investigate the main and interactive effects of multiple parameters on the model response variables by measuring the specific variations of model outputs. Its applicability and advantages are presented through the application of the Soil and Water Assessment Tool to Shitoukoumen Reservoir Catchment in northeast China. This study investigated the uncertainties of a set of sensitive parameters and their multilevel effects on model response variables, including average annual runoff (AAR), average annual sediment (AAS) and average annual total nitrogen (AAN). Results revealed that (i) soil conservation service runoff curve number for moisture condition II (CN2) had a positive effect on all response variables; (ii) available water capacity of the soil layer (SOL_AWC) had a negative effect on all response variables; (iii) the universal soil loss equation support practice (USLE_P) had a positive effect on AAS and AAN, and little effect on AAR; while the nitrate percolation coefficient (NPERCO) had a positive effect on AAN, and little effect on AAS and AAR; and (iv) the interactions amongst parameters had obvious interdependent effects on the model response variables, for example, the interaction between CN2 and SOL_AWC had a major impact on AAR. The above findings can improve the simulating and predicting capabilities of non-point source pollution mechanism model. Overall, this study highlights that the proposed approach represents a promising solution for uncertainty assessment of model parameters in non-point source pollution mechanism modeling.Organobromine compounds comprise between 3 and 8% by weight of WEEE and mainly converted to HBr and Br2 in the incinerator. However, these compounds, during the cooling of the flue gases, can form the PBDD/Fs in the post-combustion area of the furnace. Due to the many benefits of Oxy-combustion process, our group has developed a fluidised bed incinerator for burning the WEEE and plan to maximise HBr/Br2 in the flue gas. Experimental results presented in the recent papers show that the combustion of the WEEE particles attains quickly to thermodynamic equilibrium. Thermodynamic modelling can, therefore, predict the concentration of brominated pollutants, particularly HBr, Br2, HgBr2, and Br˙ in the flue gas. In this paper, the effect of various parameters for increasing the HBr/Br2 ratio in the flue gas has been investigated. The model shows that the addition of very small amounts of hydrogen in the post-combustion area can convert Br2 and Br˙ into HBr.
