This study examined individual differences as well as the development of sensory processing difficulties in children with Williams syndrome (WS) using a cross-sectional (Experiment 1) and longitudinal design (Experiment 2). In Experiment 1, a clustering approach of sensory processing scores suggested two groups. Experiment 2 showed that the clusters identified in Experiment 1 were not stable across development, especially for those with high sensory impairments at either time point. Yet, most children experienced high impairments in sensory registration at both time points, suggesting impaired registration is a core phenotype of sensory processing in children with WS across development. Possible mechanisms, limitations and implications are discussed.Tactile defensiveness in autistic individuals is the least investigated sensory modality. The current multi-component, explorative study aimed to understand the experiences of ten autistic adults regarding tactile defensiveness and fabrics, using semi-structured, one-to-one interviews. Participants were asked to discuss the effects of seven provided samples of fabrics and were also asked to bring their 'favourite' fabric (s) and express their thoughts about their choices. Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis and Content Analysis, the findings showed that some fabrics can impact individuals' reported wellbeing. Participants' experiences with several stimuli appeared to have helped them implement coping strategies. By understanding tactile defensiveness, society could move towards increasing autism-friendly approaches with appropriate fabrics. Recommendations for future research, policy and practice are also discussed.The present study evaluated treatment acceptability for behavioral interventions addressing challenging behaviors with Chinese caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorder. Factors influencing treatment acceptability (i.e., severity of challenging behavior and Chinese child-rearing values) were investigated. Caregivers of children aged 2-12 years (N = 216) participated in this survey study. Results suggest that caregivers found positive strategies including noncontingent reinforcement and positive reinforcement the most acceptable; punishment-based strategies were rated as the least acceptable. Furthermore, positive punishment was perceived as more acceptable for severe challenging behavior. Caregivers who endorsed training were more likely to find positive strategies acceptable, whereas those who endorsed shaming were more likely to rate punishment-based strategies as more acceptable. Implications for future research and culturally competent behavioral treatments in Chinese context are provided.This study investigated the effects of semantic transparency of Chinese disyllabic compound words on Chinese as a second language (CSL) learners' incidental learning of word meanings in sentence-level reading and passage-level reading. The accuracy of the learners' lexical inferencing was compared among various types of words (transparent, semi-transparent, and opaque words), different context lengths (sentence and passage contexts), and learners with different L1 backgrounds (with and without a Chinese character background in their L1s). In the study, ninety CSL adult learners were asked to infer the meanings of target words in the sentence context and the passage context. The results indicated that the effects of semantic transparency and context length on inferencing accuracy were significant, while the effect of L1 background was not. F]DCFPyL by immediate prior infusion of non-radioactive standard of [

F]DCFPyL (DCFPyL) directly into the SG via retrograde cannulation.

A dose-finding cohort using athymic nude mice demonstrated proof of principle that SG uptake can be selectively blocked by DCFPyL administered either locally via cannulation (CAN group) or systemically (SYS group). The experiments were repeated in a validation cohort of 22RV1 tumor-bearing mice. Submandibular glands (SMG) of CAN mice were locally blocked with either saline or DCFPyL (dose range 0.01× to 1000× molar equivalent of the radioactive [18F]DCFPyL dose). In this study, the chemical characterization of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) was carefully conducted by analysing PAHs in rice samples collected from private sector planting areas located in Bali and Yogyakarta, Indonesia (i.e. ID; n = 20), west sides of Malaysia (i.e. MY; n = 20), Mandalay, Legend, Myingyan, Myanmar (i.e. MM; n = 20), northern parts of Lao PDR (i.e. LA; n = 20), central parts of Cambodia (i.e. KH; n = 20), northern parts of Vietnam (i.e. VN; n = 20), and Thailand (i.e. TH; n = 22). Percentage contributions show the exceedingly high abundance of 5-6 ring PAH congeners in rice samples collected from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam. Lao PDR rice samples were overwhelmed by 4-ring PAH congeners with the percentage contribution of 46% followed by 5-6 ring PAHs (33%) and 3-ring PAHs (21%). In addition, hierarchical cluster analysis and principal component analysis can successfully categorize some rice samples based on its geographical origins.The purpose of this article is to illustrate the benefits of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the setting of abdominopelvic emergencies. Owing to intrinsically high soft-tissue contrast resolution, and ability to resolve different soft tissue, MRI holds notable advantages over other imaging modalities and can be used as a problem-solving tool. Additional advantages of MRI include lack of radiation-related risks to children and pregnant women, and the ability to acquire detailed diagnostic information even without intravenous contrast which can be beneficial in patients with contrast allergy and end-stage renal disease. We find that while uniaxial, biaxial, and isotropic in-plane compressive strains do lead to the formation of longitudinal, herringbone pattern, and labyrinthine folds, respectively, the villus morphology characteristic of, e.g., the small intestine appears only if junctional tension fluctuations are strong enough to fluidize the tissue. Moreover, the fluidized epithelium features villi even in the absence of compressive strain provided that the apico-basal differential surface tension is large enough. Transversus abdominis release (TAR) is increasingly used to address complex ventral hernias; consequently, associated complications are seen more frequently. Our hernia center has a growing experience with redo-transversus abdominis release (redo-TAR) to address large, complex hernia recurrences after failed TAR. Here, we describe our outcomes after abdominal wall reconstruction with redo-TAR.

Adults undergoing elective open, redo-TAR at our institution from January 2015 to February 2021 were queried from a prospectively collected database in the Abdominal Core Health Quality Collaborative. The primary outcome was 30-day wound morbidity. Secondary outcomes were long-term composite hernia recurrence and patient-reported quality of life.

Although the relationship between amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) is important, data relating to CSM complications in ALS remain lacking.

We aimed to investigate and validate the spinal cord conditions of ALS patients.

We recruited all patients diagnosed with ALS, Parkinson's disease (PD), or chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) who were admitted to our department from April 1, 2017, to March 31, 2020. We analyzed the cervical or thoracolumbar magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of these 128 patients. Data relating to spondylosis, cord compression, spinal canal diameter, spinal cord diameter, and the closest distance between the cervical spinal canal and cord were validated using MRI.

Of the 128 patients, 52 had ALS, 48 had PD, and 28 had CIDP. The proportions of both cervical spondylosis and cervical cord compression were highest in the ALS group compared with the other patient groups (p < 0.05). The proportion of cervical spondylosis in ALS patients reached 38.
