There is a general dearth of information on the treatment of cancer in ESKD patients. These issues will be discussed, and some general guidelines presented based upon the current literature. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, LLC.The presentation of gastrointestinal (GI) illnesses is similar in patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) and in the general population. However, there are several instances where kidney failure and renal replacement therapy (RRT) can affect the course of the disease and its management. In this section, we will focus on unique factors of GI illnesses that should be considered in the ESKD population with and without residual kidney function (RKF). We will also discuss the role of RRT modalities in the occurrence and treatment of GI disease. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, LLC.OBJECTIVE To report on the conceptualisation of a model for residential aged care in Australia. METHODS Three-stage approach involving initial model conceptualisation; extensive consultation with stakeholders to test and develop the model for feasibility and acceptability; and examination of whether the model addresses circumstances that arise in scenarios of organisational failure. RESULTS A model consisting of five domains relevant to the experience of older adults living in residential aged care-health care; social inclusion; rights; personal care and re-ablement; and dementia management. MEDICA16 ATP-citrate lyase inhibitor CONCLUSIONS This proposed model of residential aged care takes as its purpose the provision of person-centred care to older people with complex health issues, requiring end-of-life care, and/or living with dementia. This includes supporting dignity of risk and quality of life and enabling older adults to thrive. © 2020 AJA Inc.OBJECTIVES Persistent candidaemia (PC) is a recognised complication of candidaemia. Our objective was to evaluate risk factors and clinical significance of PC in adult patients. METHODS This is a retrospective, cohort study. We compared PC with non-PC. All patients with blood cultures positive for Candida species were identified from a microbiological database in the hospital district of Helsinki and Uusimaa from 2007 to 2016. PC was defined as an isolation of the same Candida species from positive blood culture for ≥5 days. RESULTS PC criteria were fulfilled by 75/350 patients (21.4%). No significant difference emerged between persistent and non-persistent cases caused by non-albicans Candida species (37.3% vs 35.1%, P = .742). The length of hospital stay before onset of candidaemia was longer before PC (hospital stay > 7 days; 73.3% vs 59.6%, P = .043). No significant impact on 30-day mortality was observed (20.0% vs 15.5%, P = .422). Using multivariable regression analysis, we found the presence of central venous catheter (CVC) (OR = 2.71, 95% CI 1.31-5.59), metastatic infection foci (OR 3.60, 95% CI 1.66-7.79) and ineffective empirical treatment (OR = 3.31, 95% CI 1.43-7.65) to be independent risk factors for PC. In subgroup analysis, early source control was identified as a protective factor against PC (30.5% vs 57.7%, P = .002). CONCLUSION The presence of CVC, metastatic infection foci and ineffective empirical treatment were independently associated with PC in adult patients. Active search for and treatment of metastatic infection foci and removal of CVC are key elements for preventing PC. © 2020 The Authors. Photophysical properties as well as chemical and photo-stability of these dyes have been studied in detail. Among these dyes, 7ABH-substituted dye shows stronger fluorescence in the near-infrared (NIR) region, relative to the other P-rhodamines. This dye can be applied to live-cell imaging, where lysosomes were selectively stained in a pH-independent manner. It was also found that the ring fusion of the amine moieties gives rise to remarkably red-shifted spectra with the absorption and emission maxima at 770 and 820 nm, respectively, spectrally close to that of indocyanine green (ICG). Importantly, the ring-fused P-rhodamines showed much higher photostability than ICG, indicative of their promising utility as the NIR-emissive dyes. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. One main drawback is its high leakage current density at high electric fields, which has been previously linked to alkali non-stoichiometry. This paper compares three acetate-based chemical solution synthesis and deposition methods for 0.5 mol% Mn doped KNN film fabrication, using lower crystallization temperature processes in comparison to sintering temperatures necessary for fabrication of KNN ceramics. This paper shows the crucial role of the A site homogenization step during solution synthesis in preserving alkali chemical homogeneity of Mn-doped KNN films. Chemically homogeneous films show uniform grain size of 80 nm and leakage current density under 2.8 x 10 -8 A/cm 2  up to electric fields as high as 600 kV/cm, which is the highest breakdown strength reported for KNN thin films. Solution synthesis involving two-step pyrolysis resulted in films with dense, columnar microstructures, which are interesting for orientation control and enhancement of piezoelectric properties. This study reports detailed solution synthesis and deposition processes with good dielectric, ferroelectric and breakdown field properties.  An optimized fabrication method that should couple low leakage current density with dense and oriented microstructures is proposed. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Since serial blood sampling could cause unnecessary stress, and urinary progesterone metabolites are found in very low concentrations, this study sought to validate progesterone and estradiol enzyme immunoassays for measuring fecal progesterone metabolite (FPM) and fecal estrogen metabolite (FEM) concentrations in two females. Peaks in FEM concentrations coincided with breeding and conception, were 5-6 times higher than baseline concentrations, and were followed by clear luteal phases distinguished by FPM concentrations 5-6 times higher than baseline concentrations. FPM concentrations during the first 30-53 days of gestation overlapped with luteal phase concentrations, thereafter increasing to 8-25 times higher than baseline concentrations. FEM concentrations during the first 41-44 days of gestation remained near basal values for one female, whereas concentrations were 1.
