7% had poor sleep quality, compared to 57.1% of those without. Smartphone addiction was associated with poor sleep (aOR = 1.41, 95%CI 1.06-1.87, p = 0.018). Conclusions Using a validated instrument, 39% young adults reported smartphone addiction. Smartphone addiction was associated with poor sleep, independent of duration of usage, indicating that length of time should not be used as a proxy for harmful usage.Speech emotion recognition (SER) is a difficult and challenging task because of the affective variances between different speakers. The performances of SER are extremely reliant on the extracted features from speech signals. To establish an effective features extracting and classification model is still a challenging task. In this paper, we propose a new method for SER based on Deep Convolution Neural Network (DCNN) and Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory with Attention (BLSTMwA) model (DCNN-BLSTMwA). We first preprocess the speech samples by data enhancement and datasets balancing. Secondly, we extract three-channel of log Mel-spectrograms (static, delta, and delta-delta) as DCNN input. Then the DCNN model pre-trained on ImageNet dataset is applied to generate the segment-level features. We stack these features of a sentence into utterance-level features. Next, we adopt BLSTM to learn the high-level emotional features for temporal summarization, followed by an attention layer which can focus on emotionally relevant features. Finally, the learned high-level emotional features are fed into the Deep Neural Network (DNN) to predict the final emotion. Experiments on EMO-DB and IEMOCAP database obtain the unweighted average recall (UAR) of 87.86 and 68.50%, respectively, which are better than most popular SER methods and demonstrate the effectiveness of our propose method. The most common cause of heart failure in the United States is ischemic left heart disease; accordingly, a vast amount of work has been done to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying pathologies of the left ventricle (LV) as a general model of heart failure. Until recently, little attention has been paid to the right ventricle (RV) and it has commonly been thought that the mechanical and biochemical properties of the RV are similar to those of the LV. However, therapies used to treat LV failure often fail to improve ventricular function in RV failure underscoring, the need to better understand the unique physiologic and pathophysiologic properties of the RV. Importantly, hemodynamic stresses (such as pressure overload) often underlie right heart failure further differentiating RV failure as unique from LV failure. There are significant structural, mechanical, and biochemical properties distinctive to the RV that influences its function and it is likely that adaptations of the RV occur uniquely across the lifespan. We have previously reviewed the adult RV compared to the LV but there is little known about differences in the pediatric or aged RV. find more Accordingly, in this mini-review, we will examine the subtle distinctions between the RV and LV that are maintained physiologically across the lifespan and will highlight significant knowledge gaps in our understanding of pediatric and aging RV. Consideration of how RV function is altered in different disease states in an age-specific manner may enable us to define RV function in health and importantly, in response to pathology. The objective of this study was to investigate the association between cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and performance in multiple domains of executive functions in school-aged adolescents. A sample of 132 adolescents (43% girls) aged 11-16 years were included in this cross-sectional study. Each participant completed a progressive aerobic cardiovascular endurance running (PACER) test, computerized cognitive tasks (Attentional Network, Berg's Card Sorting, Go/No-Go oddball, Sternberg's Working Memory, and Tower of London) and questionnaire for daytime sleepiness, as well as other factors that might influence cognitive performance (age, sex, school year, pubertal stage, and body mass index - BMI). Generalized linear model was used to calculate the coefficient estimates (β) and its 95% confidence interval (CI) for the cognitive tasks using PACER laps as a predictor, controlling for potential confounding variables. There was a negatively association of PACER laps with planning (β = -17.1, 95% CI -31.9, -2.3) and solution (β = -44.6, 95% CI -75.1, -14.2) time in performing the Tower of London task, as well as with perseverative errors in performing Berg's task (β = -0.073, 95% CI -0.133, -0.013). Moderating effect of sex was found for the association of PACER laps with completed categories and perseverative errors in Berg's task (p less then 0.05). Mediating effect of BMI was found for the association between PACER laps and NoGo task, revealing a full mediator accounted for 81% of the total effect mediated (standardized indirect effect, -0.069, 95% CI -0.140, -0.020; standardized direct effect, 0.011, 95% CI -0.149, 0.165). No association was found for Attentional or Sternberg's tasks. The findings suggest that school-aged adolescents with higher CRF level showed better planning and problem-solving abilities and cognitive flexibility. Additionally, the positive association of CRF with cognitive flexibility was sex-moderated and with inhibitory control was BMI-mediated.The ability of red blood cells (RBCs) to transport gases, their lifespan as well as their rheological properties invariably depend on the deformability, hydration, and membrane stability of these cells, which can be measured by Laser optical rotational red cell analyser (Lorrca® Maxsis, RR Mechatronics). The osmoscan mode of Lorrca is currently used in diagnosis of rare anemias in clinical laboratories. However, a broad range of normal values for healthy subjects reduces the sensitivity of this method for diagnosis of mild disease phenotype. In this pilot study, we explored the impact of age and gender of 45 healthy donors, as well as RBC age on the Lorrca indices. Whereas gender did not affect the Lorrca indices in our study, the age donors had a profound effect on the O_hyper parameter. To study the impact of RBC age on the osmoscan parameters, we have isolated low (L)-, medium (M)-, or high (H)- density fractions enriched with young, mature, and senescent RBCs, respectively, and evaluated the influence of RBC age-related properties, such as density, morphology, and redox state, on the osmoscan indices.
