The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of the percentages of preserved enamel on ceramic laminate veneers' (CLVs) shear bond strength (SBS).
Seventy extracted human maxillary central incisors were scanned and reconstructed into three-dimensional models. The extracted teeth were then embedded and randomly divided into seven groups (n = 10 per group). Based on digital analyses of the three-dimensional models, guided tooth preparation and bonding procedures were performed individually to form seven different percentages (100%, 80%, 60% 50%, 40%, 20% and 0%) of remaining enamel thickness on the bonding surface. Finally, the SBS test was performed, and the data were statistically analysed by one-way ANOVA with LSD post hoc test (α = 0.05).
The complete enamel surface exhibited the highest SBS (19.93 ± 4.55MPa), followed by 80% enamel (19.03 ± 3.66MPa), 60% enamel (18.44 ± 3.65MPa), 50% enamel (18.18 ± 3.41MPa), 40% enamel (17.83 ± 3.01MPa) and 20% enamel (11.32 ± 3.42MPa) group. The lo40% of preserved enamel on the bonding surface was the minimal acceptable value to fulfil the requirements of good bonding strength.
The goal of the current study was to evaluate the relative frequency of oral and maxillofacial pathological lesions among Egyptian children.
Records of biopsies submitted to the department of oral and maxillofacial pathology from the year 1999 to 2019 were retrieved and reassessed for all cases under the age of 18years. Information on age, sex, location of the lesion, and the histopathologic diagnosis was analyzed.
Over the course of twenty-one years, 1108 specimens were analyzed where reactive soft tissue lesions, which accounted for 397 (35.8%) of all cases ranked the highest presented category, followed by inflammatory odontogenic cysts, which accounted for 213 cases (19.2%). With 208 cases, the inflammatory radicular cyst was on the top of the most common 20 lesions, followed by pyogenic granuloma (160 cases). Malignancy was found in 19 cases, with soft tissue tumors (10 cases) being the most common, followed by salivary gland (5 cases) and bone pathologies (4 cases).

The mental health of refugee women is often affected by multiple risk factors in their social ecology. Assessing these risk factors is foundational in determining potential areas for intervention. We used the social ecological model to examine risk factors associated with self-reported mental health symptoms among clinic-attending Syrian refugee women in Jordan. We hypothesize that individual (older age, unmarried, have more children under 18, difficulty reading/writing with ease), interpersonal (intimate partner violence [IPV]), community and societal level risk factors (greater number of postmigration stressors), will be associated with depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms.
We surveyed 507 women using a cross-sectional clinic-based systematic sampling approach between April and November 2018. We used multivariable regressions to examine associations between different risk factors in the social ecology on depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Additional multivariable regressioeds. Medical and pathology education has gone through an immense transformation from traditional face-to-face teaching mode to virtual mode during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study evaluated the effectiveness of online histopathology teaching in medical education during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic in Griffith University, Australia.
Second-year medical students (n = 150) who had previously completed one year of face-to-face histopathology teaching, completed an online questionnaire rating their learning experiences before and during the COVID-19 pandemic after the completion of their histology and pathology practical sessions. The students' histopathology assessment results were then compared to the histopathology results of a prior second-year cohort to determine if the switch to online histopathology teaching had an impact on students' learning outcome.
A thematic analysis of the qualitative comments strongly indicated that online histopathology teaching was instrumental, more comfortable to engage in and better structured compared to face-to-face teaching. Compared to the previous year's practical assessment, individual performance was not significantly different (p = 0.30) and compared to the prior cohort completing the same curriculum the mean overall mark was significantly improved from 65.36% ± 13.12% to 75.83% ± 14.84% (p < 0.05) during the COVID-19 impacted online teaching period.

The explosive radiationand diversification of theadvanced snakes (superfamily Colubroidea) was associated with changes in all aspects of the sharedvenom system. Morphological changes included the partitioning of themixed ancestral glands intotwo discrete glands devoted for production of venom or mucousrespectively, as well as changes inthe location,size and structural elements of the venom-delivering teeth. Evidence also exists for homology among venom gland toxins expressed across the advanced snakes. However, despite the evolutionary novelty of snake venoms, in-depthtoxin molecular evolutionary history reconstructions have been mostly limited to thosetypes present in only twofront-fanged snake families, Elapidae and Viperidae. To have a broader understanding of toxins shared among extant snakes, here we first sequenced the transcriptomes of eight taxonomically diverse rear-fanged species and four key viperid species and analysedmajor toxin types shared across theadvanced snakes.

Ichthyosis describes a localized or generalized hereditary cornification disorder caused by an impaired terminal keratinocyte differentiation resulting in excessive stratum corneum with the formation of more or less adherent scales. Ichthyosis affects humans and animals. Two rare bovine forms are reported, the severe harlequin ichthyosis and the less severe congenital ichthyosis, both characterized by a severe orthokeratotic lamellar hyperkeratosis.
A 2-weeks-old purebred Scottish Highland calf was referred because of a syndrome resembling congenital ichthyosis. The clinical phenotype included diffuse alopecia and a markedly lichenified skin covered with large and excessive scales. Additionally, conjunctivitis and ulceration of the cornea were noted. Post-mortem examination revealed deep fissures in the diffusely thickened tongue and histopathological findings in the skin confirmed the clinical diagnosis. Whole-genome sequencing of the affected calf and comparison of the data with control genomes was perfmost likely underlying cause. To the best of our knowledge, this study is also the first report of a DSP-related syndromic form of congenital ichthyosis in domestic animals. The aim of the study was to assess whether exposure to particulate matter (PM10) and tobacco smoking have an impact on menstrual profiles of 17β-estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P) and the E2/P ratio.
Levels of sex hormones were measured daily in saliva during the entire menstrual cycle among 132 healthy, urban women. Exposure to smoking (active or passive) was assessed by questionnaire, whilst exposure to PM10 with municipal monitoring data.
During the early luteal phase, profiles of E2 were elevated among women with higher versus lower exposure to PM10 (p = 0.02, post-hoc tests). Among those who were exposed versus unexposed to tobacco smoking, the levels of mean E2 measured during the entire cycle were higher (p = 0.02). The difference in mean E2 levels between the group of joint exposure (i.e. to high PM10 and passive or active smoking) versus the reference group (low PM10, no smoking) was statistically significant at p = 0.
