As the ratio of the host-guest size increased, the contact angle of the water phase also increased. However, the surface structures of the composite microspheres were not uniform because of the surface chemical composition and the uncontrollable distribution of the small spheres on the surface of the large spheres during compounding. As a result, water droplets appeared in the Cassie-impregnated state on the composite microsphere particle coating, resulting in the phenomenon of high hydrophobicity and high adhesion.

Although topical amphotericin B cream is effective for the treatment of nondermatophyte mold onychomycosis in vitro, studies of its effectiveness and safety in vivo are limited.

We studied the effectiveness and safety of topical 0.3% amphotericin B in 30% dimethyl sulfoxide cream (amphotericin B cream) in nondermatophyte mold onychomycosis using the vehicle cream 30% dimethyl sulfoxide cream as control.

This randomized controlled study was conducted between January 2019 and November 2020. Patients diagnosed with nondermatophyte mold onychomycosis were randomly divided into two groups of ten patients each one treated with amphotericin B cream and the other with the vehicle cream. Clinical and mycological cure as well as safety were evaluated.

Ten patients each treated with amphotericin B cream and the vehicle cream were included in the study, but only nine patients in the vehicle cream group were available for follow up. All the 19 evaluable patients had distal lateral subungual onychomycosis and the great toenails were affected in 18 (94.7%) of these. Mycological cure was achieved in 8 (80%) patients treated with amphotericin B cream and in 4 (44.4%) patients using the control (vehicle) cream. Clinical cure was achieved in 7 (70%) patients treated with amphotericin B cream, but only in 2 (22.2%) patients on the control cream. No adverse events were observed.

The small sample size and the fact that PCR fungal identification that provides accurate identification of fungal species was not performed are limitations of our study.

Topical amphotericin B cream was both very effective and safe in the treatment nondermatophyte mold onychomycosis. The control (vehicle) cream containing 30% dimethyl sulfoxide also demonstrated some antifungal activity.

The characterization of changes in microvasculature can provide useful clues towards the diagnosis and prognosis of a disease. CP-868596 The diagnostic utility of nail fold capillaroscopy has improved and expanded over the past couple of decades. Beyond connective tissue diseases, it is now explored for its role in various systemic and dermatological diseases. Incorporation of nail-fold capillaroscopy in the diagnostic criteria of systemic sclerosis has generated interest among dermatologists. The current review is aimed at providing knowledge about nail-fold capillaroscopy to dermatologists. For the purpose of review, a PubMed search was done using the keywords "nail fold capillaries" and "nail fold capillaroscopy". All the articles were retrieved and classified into reviews and clinical studies of various types. The final data were then analyzed and presented in a narrative fashion.

The polymorphism of interleukin-17F rs763780 has been found to have a probable association with increased risk of developing psoriasis.

This study aims to get a more convincing estimation of the association between the interleukin-17F rs763780 T /C polymorphism and psoriasis risk.

Two authors independently searched the databases including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang and Chinese Biomedical Literature Databases for case-control studies which reported the odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals comparing genotype and allele frequencies of the interleukin-17F rs763780 polymorphism in patients with psoriasis versus participants without psoriasis.

A total of seven case-control studies incorporating 1824 cases and 1585 controls were identified. The pooled odds ratios indicated that interleukin-17F rs763780 C allele was a risk factor for psoriasis in allele frequency, recessive model and homozygote model (P < 0.05). Subgroup analysis by ethnicity further indicated that the C allele was closely related to increased risk of psoriasis in Asian populations (P < 0.05), but not in Caucasians.

Only a few studies on the interleukin-17F rs763780 polymorphism in psoriasis have been reported till date, thus the data is insufficient. Only one gene polymorphic site was selected for this study, and it is not clear whether other genetic mutation functional sites affect the gene. Further studies on confounding effects of other genetic polymorphisms are needed.

The present meta-analysis results suggested that the interleukin-17F rs763780 T /C is significantly associated with psoriasis risk in Asians.

The prevalence of skin diseases has increased over the last few decades, and they contribute to a significant burden on health-care systems across the world. Aims/Objective This report looks at the burden of skin and subcutaneous diseases in terms of years lived with disability and agestandardised years lived with disability in India using the Global Burden of Disease Study results from 2017.

Data were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease online interactive tool. Updated estimates of the world's health for 359 diseases and injuries and 84 risk factors from 1990 to 2017 are available in this interactive tool.

Years lived with disability due to skin and subcutaneous diseases accounted for 4.02% of the total years lived with disability in India in 2017. There was an increase of 53.7% in all age standardised years lived with disability for all the skin and subcutaneous diseases from 1990 to 2017. Among skin and subcutaneous diseases, dermatitis contributed maximum years lived with disability (1.40 milbility for leprosy, scabies, fungal infections, sexually transmitted infections and non-melanoma skin cancer (basal cell carcinoma) has decreased. The high burden of skin and subcutaneous diseases demand that they be given due importance in the national programmes and health policy of India.Porokeratosis is a keratinization disorder with unclear etiopathogenesis, varied clinical presentation and characteristic histopathology, and is usually unresponsive to current therapeutic options. Until now, it was considered to be a clonal disorder with immunity, ultra violet radiation and other factors playing important roles in etiopathogenesis. It is now known that abnormalities in the mevalonate pathway are responsible for this clonal keratinization abnormality. New variants of porokeratosis like eruptive bullous, pruriginous, lichen planus like, follicular variants and porokeratoma have been described. While the cornoid lamella is the classical histopathologic feature, dermoscopy and reflectance confocal microscopy make the diagnosis clearer. Development of malignancy in a few variants is a concern. Linear, disseminated superficial actinic and giant lesions are most prone to developing malignancies. Bowen's disease, squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma and even melanoma have been reported in cases of long-standing porokeratosis. Newer modalities of therapy such as photodynamic therapy, ingenol mebutate and HMGCoA inhibitors may play a role in the future.

Cervical discharge as part of cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease is a cause of significant morbidity in sexually active women worldwide. Non-gonococcal and non- chlamydial bacterial pathogens are becoming more prevalent.

This study aims to determine bacterial pathogens causing cervical discharge using culture and/or polymerase chain reaction and assess the clinical and laboratory response to the conventional syndromic kit regimen established by the World Health Organisation.

A retrospective review of records of women with cervical discharge over one year period. Culture and/or polymerase chain reaction results of endocervical swabs of various bacterial pathogens at baseline and after four weeks of treatment with syndromic kit regimen were recorded.

A total of 70 case records were reviewed for clinical details, out of which results of bacterial culture and polymerase chain reaction were available for 67 cases. Infectious aetiology was found in 30 (44.7%) patients with Ureaplasma species being tve study design, small sample size and fewer cases with follow-up data were the main limitations.

Ureaplasma spp. was the most common infectious cause of cervical discharge in our patients. Treatment given as part of syndromic management led to a clinical and microbiological response in around half and two-third cases, respectively.

These factors partly explain why older people with COVID-19 experience more severe symptoms and higher mortality than younger adults and are more likely to require nutritional support. Furthermore, there is an association between suboptimal nutritional status and poorer recovery from COVID-19. Therefore, nutritional interventions are an important aspect of care for older people with COVID-19. All members of the multidisciplinary team, including dietitians and nurses, need to assess, treat and prevent nutritional deficiencies in older people with COVID-19. This literature review provides an overview of the evidence regarding the role of nutritional interventions in the treatment of, and recovery from, COVID-19 in older people.Axillary ultrasonography (US) is the most commonly used imaging modality for nodal evaluation in patients with breast cancer. No Axillary Surgical Treatment in Clinically Lymph Node-Negative Patients after Ultrasonography (NAUTILUS) is a prospective, multicenter, randomized controlled trial investigating whether sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) can be safely omitted in patients with clinically and sonographically node-negative T1-2 breast cancer treated with breast-conserving therapy. In this trial, a standardized imaging protocol and criteria were established for the evaluation of axillary lymph nodes. Women lacking palpable lymph nodes underwent axillary US to dismiss suspicious nodal involvement. Patients with a round hypoechoic node with effaced hilum or indistinct margins were excluded. Patients with T1 tumors and a single node with a cortical thickness ≥ 3 mm underwent US-guided biopsy. Finally, patients with negative axillary US findings were included. The NAUTILUS axillary US nodal assessment criteria facilitate the proper selection of candidates who can omit SLNB.
