This present study was intended to reveal the antigenotoxicity effect of fucoidan on 4-nitroquinolin-1-oxide (4-NQO) induced genetics damage and apoptosis in mice bone marrow cells. The 4-NQO caused genetic damages in the form of chromosome/chromatic breakage was estimated by micronuclei assay whereas apoptosis by annexin-V FITC kit and DNA damage by comet assay kit. In addition, oxidative damage in terms of plasma lipid peroxidation (LPO) and 8-OHdG was also estimated. In the experimental regime, six groups with each in five either sex of mice were used. Fucoidan constituted (50,100,200 mg/kg bwt) by orally for 5 days consequently and on 6th day, 4-NQO was administered (7.5 mg/kg bwt) by i.p. The results clearly show that negative control (H2O) and fucoidan alone constituted mice were not exhibited significant effect on LPO, genetic damages whereas positive control group (4-NQO 7.5 mg/kg bwt, i.p.) showed significant effect on genetic damage by showing increased level of LPO (6.25 vs 1.3 μM MDA), 8-OHdG (12 vs 4%), micronuclei about six-fold, 5-fold of comet, and 4-fold of apoptosis when compared with negative control, 11.6 ± 2.07, 5.00 ± 1.58, and 4.14 ± 0.65 respectively. Fucoidan pretreatment significantly protected the 4-NQO-induced genetic damage by 77% decreased level of micronuclei and 96% comet at dose of 200 mg/kg bwt over the positive control whereas LPO, 8-OHdG, and apoptosis were restored as equal to negative control. This study found as fucoidan possessing significant antigenotoxicity property by protecting 4-NQO-induced genetic damage in mice bone marrow cells as dose dependent manner suggest as valuable food supplements and medicine for mankind from environmental toxicants.Groundwater is a major source of drinking water and agricultural water in some regions of the world. However, it contains a high level of 226Ra that is potentially hazardous to human health and the environment. Normally, the activity concentration of 226Ra in groundwater is determined to assess the quality of groundwater that can be used as drinking water. There are few studies on the accumulation of 226Ra in the agricultural soil due to irrigation with groundwater. In this study, levels of 226Ra were determined on over 60 groundwater samples collected from the public water supply wells in Phu Yen province, Vietnam. Besides assessment of the health risks to population due to drinking groundwater samples, the impact of groundwater irrigation to the maize field in the study area was studied. For this purpose, two chemical fate models were applied and the comparison of their results was performed. Based on the model assessments, we predicted that the present agricultural practices increased the 226Ra activity concentration in the maize soil, and the level of 226Ra activity concentration in the topsoil can exceed the recommended level at 11.4 years of the present agricultural practices on the maize soil.The study aimed to determine eight hazardous heavy metals in surface water and sediment samples collected from the Naf River, Shah Porir Dwip (estuary), and mostly around Saint Martin's Island in the Bay of Bengal. The results of heavy metals in water samples were ranged as Pb 14.7-313.0, Cd 33.0-70.0, Cr less then 11.0-37.0, Cu 38.0-57.0, Zn 26.8-69.2, Ni 102.0-285.0, and Hg 0.3-1.6 μg L-1. The concentrations of metals in sediment samples were ranged as Pb less then 10.0-37.5, Cd 0.2-1.0, Cr less then 5.0-30.1, Cu less then 3.0-30.9, Zn 24.1-88.0, Ni less then 4.0-48.3, As 0.1-7.3, and Hg less then 0.01-0.08 mg kg-1 dw. Ni and Cr were strongly correlated, suggesting that this pair of metals might diffuse from a common origin. Graphical abstract.Natural colloids (NCs) are ubiquities in aquatic environments, which play an important role in the fate and transport of metal elements. Combined with a multi-method analytical approach, this study investigates the spectral characteristics and the contamination of metals of NCs from the five tributaries of Poyang Lake and the lakes in Nanchang City. Results showed that NCs in river samples were characteristic by the smaller molecular weight, lower chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) concentration, higher aromaticity, and higher CDOM contribution to the organic carbon than those in lake samples. Based on the parallel factor analysis model, three fluorophores were identified, including two humic-like components (C1 and C2) and a protein-like component (C3). NCs in river and lake waters were dominant by the humic-like substance (C1) and the protein-like substance (C3), respectively, with the relatively high fluorescence intensity for all the fluorophores in lake samples. Furthermore, NCs from the river samples were primarily terrestrial NCs with a high degree of humification. The average detection frequency of metal elements was nearly 50% for both river and lake samples, whereas the concentrations of the metal elements were higher in lake samples. Principal component analysis (PCA) results showed that the contamination of the detected metals could divide into three categories, with relatively high concentrations of Ba, Pb, Zn, Al, Sr, and Fe in lake samples. Firstly, we aimed to compare genetic damages in the agricultural workers of two different types of environmental conditions including the greenhouse and open fields. Secondly, we aimed to compare genetic damages in the total agricultural workers as the exposed group (greenhouse and open field workers) (n = 114) and the non-exposed control group (n = 98) living in the same area in Canakkale, Turkey. For these purposes, we investigated the incidence of micronucleus (MN), nucleoplasmic bridges (NPBs), and nuclear buds (NBUDs) in peripheral blood lymphocytes. We observed that the frequencies of MN, NPB, and NBUD obtained for the greenhouse workers were statistically significantly higher than those obtained for the open field workers. When the results of the control group were compared with those of the total workers, there were statistically significant differences in terms of MN and NBUD frequencies. We found that age and MN were correlated at a significant level in both the agricultural workers and the control group. The MN frequency of the female workers was 1.5 times greater than that of the male workers, and it was a significant level in the agricultural workers.PM2.5 pollution has emerged as a global human health risk. The best measure of its impact is a population's PM2.5 exposure (PPM2.5E), an index that simultaneously considers PM2.5 concentrations and population spatial density. The spatiotemporal variation of PPM2.5E over the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH) region, which is the national capital region of China, was investigated using a Bayesian space-time model, and the influence patterns of the anthropic and geographical factors were identified using the GeoDetector model and Pearson correlation analysis.
