05). MT decreased significantly after tooth extraction on the extraction side but not on the nonextraction side. There was no significant difference between group 1 and group 2 regarding the reduction in mucosal thickness over time.

Severe periodontitis can cause MT in the maxillary sinus. The RRH was lower at the sites of extracted teeth. MT reduced quickly by a thorough debridement after tooth extraction in 4 months. MT will not decrease further over time.

A total of 50 C57BL/6 N mice were randomly divided into the normal group, DKD group, DKD+EGB761 group (36 mg/kg), and DKD+4-phenylbutyrate (4-PBA) group (1 g/kg). The DKD model was replicated by high-fat diet combined with intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ). Renal tubular epithelial cells (HK-2) were divided into the control group, high-glucose group (30 mmol/L), EGB761 group (40 mg/L, 20 mg/L, 10 mg/L), TM group, and TM+4-PBA group. After 8 weeks of administration, expressions of serum creatinine (Scr), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), 24 h urinary protein (24 h Pro), fasting blood glucose (FBG), β 2-microglobulin (β 2-MG), and retinol binding protein 4 (RBP4) of mice were tested. The pathological changes of renal tissue were observed. The expressions of extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulation and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), E-cadherin, fibronectin, and collagen IV, as well as the ERS markers GRP78 and ATF6, were tested by Western blot, qPCR, immunohistochemistry, or immunofluorescence. EGB761 could decrease the Scr, BUN, 24 h Pro, and FBG levels in the DKD group, alleviate renal pathological injury, decrease urine β 2-MG, RBP4 levels, and decrease the expression of α-SMA, collagen IV, fibronectin, and GRP78, as well as ATF6, while increase the expression of E-cadherin. These findings demonstrate that EGB761 can improve renal function, reduce tubular injury, and ameliorate ECM accumulation and EMT in DKD kidney tubules, and the mechanism may be related to the inhibition of ERS.

Multiple genes have been identified to cause dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Nevertheless, there is still a lack of comprehensive elucidation of the molecular characteristics for DCM. Herein, we aimed to uncover putative molecular features for DCM by multiomics analysis.

Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were obtained from different RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) datasets of left ventricle samples from healthy donors and DCM patients. Furthermore, protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis was then presented. Differentially methylated genes (DMGs) were identified between DCM and control samples. Following integration of DEGs and DMGs, differentially expressed and methylated genes were acquired and their biological functions were analyzed by the clusterProfiler package. Whole exome sequencing of blood samples from 69 DCM patients was constructed in our cohort, which was analyzed the maftools package. The expression of key mutated genes was verified by three independent datasets.

1407 common DEGs were identiffindings comprehensively analyzed molecular characteristics from the transcriptome, epigenome, and genome perspectives for DCM, which could provide practical implications for DCM.

Sella turcica bridging (STB) refers to a rare anatomical variation formed by the ossification of the ligament between the anterior and posterior clinoid processes. The presence of the STB was significantly correlated with craniofacial skeleton classification and a higher prevalence rate in skeletal Class III. The current study is aimed at investigating the dimensions of sella turcica and the prevalence of STB in different sexes and on the three craniofacial skeletal patterns using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).

A total of 159 adults (66 males and 93 females), including 3 different craniofacial skeletal patterns (skeletal Classes I, II, and III), were included in the study. The sella turcica dimensions and the prevalence of STB were calculated. An independent

-test and generalized linear model were used to compare the differences in the sella turcica dimensions and the skeletal relations. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlations between sella turcica dimensiontween different craniofacial skeletal patterns (skeletal Classes I, II, and III).

The prevalence rate of complete STB in the Taiwanese population was 6.6%. Significant differences between sexes were found in sella turcica dimensions. The prevalence rates of STB as well as the sella turcica dimensions did not significantly differ between different craniofacial skeletal patterns (skeletal Classes I, II, and III).Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a complication of herpes zoster viral infection. Its main manifestations are continuous or intermittent burning-like and electroshock-like pain in the affected nerves. Electroacupuncture (EA) is widely used in clinical treatment and exerts effects in alleviating neuropathic pain. In this study, we investigated the effect and underlying mechanism of EA on PHN. Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with resiniferatoxin (RTX) to establish a PHN model and subjected to EA and/or miR-223-3p overexpression (OV) or interference. Mechanical withdrawal latency was measured as an indication of pain sensitivity. Hematoxylin-eosin staining and transmission electron microscopy were performed to observe neuron cell morphology and autophagic vacuoles, respectively. ELISA was performed to detect reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and the levels of tumor necrosis factor- (TNF-) α, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), interleukin- (IL-) 6, and IL-10. Changes in autophagy and apoptosis-related miRNAs were detected by immunofluorescence and qRT-PCR, respectively. In RTX-treated rats, OV and EA reduced pain sensitivity, decreased the number of eosinophils, and increased that of nerve cells. ROS generation and the levels of TNF-α and iNOS were significantly reduced, while those of IL-6 and IL-10 were increased. OV and EA induced fewer autophagic vacuoles than those in the model group. The expression of autophagy-related protein microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3-II, ATG9, and Rab1 was decreased by OV and EA, whereas that of P62 was increased. Onvansertib order qRT-PCR revealed that miR-223-3p expression in the model group decreased but was increased by EA. EA inhibits neuron cell autophagy in PHN by increasing miR-223-3p expression.

Human Schlafen 5 (SLFN5) is reported to inhibit or promote the proliferation of several specific types of cancer cells by our lab and other researchers. We are curious about its implications in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAC), a malignant tumor with a high incidence rate and high mortality.

Lentiviral stable transfections of SLFN5-specific shRNA for knockdown and SLFN5 full-length coding sequence for overexpression were performed in LUAC cell for proliferation analysis in vitro and in vivo in nude mice. Clinical LUAC samples were collected for immunohistochemical analysis of SLFN5 protein levels.

We found that knockdown of endogenous SLFN5 upregulates cancer cell proliferation while inhibiting apoptosis. Besides, SLFN5 inhibition on proliferation was also observed in a nude mouse xenograft model. In contrast, overexpression of exogenous SLFN5 inhibited cell proliferation

and

and promoted apoptosis. As to the signaling pathway, we found phosphatase and tensin homolog on chromosome 10 (PTEN) was positiveared with adjacent normal tissues, SLFN5 protein levels were markedly decreased in lung adenocarcinoma tissues. In conclusion, these suggest that human SLFN5 plays inhibitory roles in LUAC progression through the PTEN/PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway, providing a potential target for developing drugs for lung cancer therapy in the future.

Preventive medicine is important in an aging society. Presarcopenia is the preliminary stage of sarcopenia. Recent advances in bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) devices have enabled automatic estimation of neck circumference (NC). However, the agreement between and interchangeability of NC measured manually and that calculated with BIA have not been evaluated. We performed these analyses in the context of health checkups and investigated their associations with presarcopenia.

We enrolled 318 participants who underwent anthropometric measurements, including NC measured manually and by BIA; assessment of physical function; and blood testing. We used Bland-Altman analysis to calculate the agreement between and interchangeability of NC measurements by BIA and by the manual method. We then statistically compared normal participants and those with presarcopenia. Using multivariable analysis, we subsequently investigated significant risk factors for presarcopenia. We defined presarcopenia according to the a NC measurement can be used for early detection of presarcopenia.

BIA measurements of NC are interchangeable within about 95% with manual measurements. The decrease in NC measured by BIA was significantly associated with presarcopenia in both genders. NC measurement can be used for early detection of presarcopenia.Vessel segmentation is a fundamental, yet not well-solved problem in medical image analysis, due to the complicated geometrical and topological structures of human vessels. Unlike existing rule- and conventional learning-based techniques, which hardly capture the location of tiny vessel structures and perceive their global spatial structures, we propose Simultaneous Self- and Channel-attention Neural Network (termed SSCA-Net) to solve the multiscale structure-preserving vessel segmentation (MSVS) problem. SSCA-Net differs from the conventional neural networks in modeling image global contexts, showing more power to understand the global semantic information by both self- and channel-attention (SCA) mechanism and offering high performance on segmenting vessels with multiscale structures (e.g., DSC 96.21% and MIoU 92.70% on the intracranial vessel dataset). Specifically, the SCA module is designed and embedded in the feature decoding stage to learn SCA features at different layers, in which the self-attention is used to obtain the position information of the feature itself, and the channel attention is designed to guide the shallow features to obtain global feature information. To evaluate the effectiveness of our SSCA-Net, we compare it with several state-of-the-art methods on three well-known vessel segmentation benchmark datasets. Qualitative and quantitative results demonstrate clear improvements of our method over the state-of-the-art in terms of preserving vessel details and global spatial structures. The mixed reality (MR) technique has recently been widely used in the orthopedic surgery with satisfactory results reported. However, few studies have focused on the application of MR in the Lumbar fracture (LF). In this retrospective study, our aim is to analyze some findings by investigating the feasibility of MR applied to lumbar fracture treatment. Posterior vertebrectomy has been operated on 7 patients. The MR-based intraoperative three-dimensional image-guided navigation system (MITINS) was used to assist implantation of pedicle screws. The feasibility and safety of pedicle screw implantation were assessed by postsurgery radiography. The visual analog scale (VAS) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were used to assess the pain level and recovery situation before and after surgery. 57 pedicle screws were safely and precisely placed into three-dimensional lumbar models by using MITINS. No screw was found outside the pedicle of the models, and it was not necessary for the X-ray to provide extra locative information during the operation with the use of MITINS.
