At gross inspection, lung discoloration in the right lower lobe was present in 5/6 animals (mean size 1 × 2 × 4cm) with alveolar hemorrhage, preservation of blood vessels and bronchioles, and minor injuries to pneumocytes noted at histology.

Transcostal hepatic histotripsy ablation appears feasible, effective, and no severe injuries were identified in an acute porcine model when prolonged cooling time is added to minimize body wall heating.

This study compared these properties with those of ageing controls by matching bone volume fraction (BV/TV), the most important determinant for bones' mechanical properties, to investigate whether these bones have similar properties and degenerative potentials. RA, OA and OP femoral heads were harvested from patients undergoing total hip replacement surgery. The selected patients were matched by similar cancellous bone BV/TV, with seven patients in each group. Four samples were prepared from each femoral head and scanned with micro-CT to quantify microarchitectural properties and compression tested to determine mechanical properties. Thapsigargin concentration In terms of global morphometry, no significant differences were observed between these diseased bones. In terms of local morphometry, the number of plates in the RA group was significantly greater than that of the OP and control groups. Plate volume density in the RA group was significantly greater than in the control group. Interestingly, the ultimate stresses in the three diseased groups were 77% to 195% lower than in the control group (p  less then  0.001). Degenerations of global morphometry of cancellous bones in these diseased femoral heads are similar but more severe than in ageing controls matched by BV/TV, as evidenced by pronounced reduction in bone strength. This phenomenon suggests that some local morphometric parameters, along with other factors, such as abnormal collagen, mineralisation, erosion and microdamage, may contribute to further compromising mechanical properties. In this work, we developed a photoelectrochemical assay for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) detection based on hexagonal carbon-nitrogen tubes (HCNT) as visible light-sensitive materials. The MCF-7 cell was selected as the model CTC and was captured through specific recognition between epithelial cell adhesion molecules (EpCAM) on the cell surface and anti-EpCAM antibodies. Anti-EpCAM antibody-modified magnetic nanoparticles were used to enrich and separate MCF-7 cells from samples. The detection signal was amplified by Ag2S nanocrystals, which can compete with HCNTs for absorbing visible light, leading to a decrease of photocurrent intensity. The linear range of the assay for MCF-7 cells is from 10 to 5000 cells mL-1, with a detection limit of 3 cells mL-1 (S/D = 3). The assay has good selectivity for MCF-7 detection over HeLa cells. The assay was successfully applied for the detection of MCF-7 in human whole blood, which indicates the potential for clinical application.Reversed-phase ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (RP-UHPLC/MS) method was developed with the aim to unambiguously identify a large number of lipid species from multiple lipid classes in human plasma. The optimized RP-UHPLC/MS method employed the C18 column with sub-2-μm particles with the total run time of 25 min. The chromatographic resolution was investigated with 42 standards from 18 lipid classes. The UHPLC system was coupled to high-resolution quadrupole-time-of-flight (QTOF) mass analyzer using electrospray ionization (ESI) measuring full-scan and tandem mass spectra (MS/MS) in positive- and negative-ion modes with high mass accuracy. Our identification approach was based on m/z values measured with mass accuracy within 5 ppm tolerance in the full-scan mode, characteristic fragment ions in MS/MS, and regularity in chromatographic retention dependences for individual lipid species, which provides the highest level of confidence for reported identifications of lipid species including regioisomeric and other isobaric forms. The graphs of dependences of retention times on the carbon number or on the number of double bond(s) in fatty acyl chains were constructed to support the identification of lipid species in homologous lipid series. Our list of identified lipid species is also compared with previous publications investigating human blood samples by various MS-based approaches. In total, we have reported more than 500 lipid species representing 26 polar and nonpolar lipid classes detected in NIST Standard reference material 1950 human plasma.Plant viruses are major contributors to crop losses and induce high economic costs worldwide. For reliable, on-site and early detection of plant viral diseases, portable biosensors are of great interest. In this study, a field-effect SiO2-gate electrolyte-insulator-semiconductor (EIS) sensor was utilized for the label-free electrostatic detection of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) particles as a model plant pathogen. The capacitive EIS sensor has been characterized regarding its TMV sensitivity by means of constant-capacitance method. The EIS sensor was able to detect biotinylated TMV particles from a solution with a TMV concentration as low as 0.025 nM. A good correlation between the registered EIS sensor signal and the density of adsorbed TMV particles assessed from scanning electron microscopy images of the SiO2-gate chip surface was observed. Additionally, the isoelectric point of the biotinylated TMV particles was determined via zeta potential measurements and the influence of ionic strength of the measurement solution on the TMV-modified EIS sensor signal has been studied.

Many techniques have been introduced to correct cryptotia. The previous methods are releasing the constricted cartilage and changing the mechanical fulcrum partly to the right position. However, some patients are still not satisfied with the treatment results, due to cryptotia recurrence and insufficient superior 1/3 width. This study aimed to develop a new method for completely changing the mechanical direction of constricted cartilage for correcting cryptotia.

From 2007 to 2020, twenty-four cryptotia patients were treated. During surgical reconstruction, the retroauricular skin flap was elevated, the posterior aspect of the upper auricular cartilage was completely exposed, and the abnormal insertion of the auricular intrinsic muscles detached. The sharply curved antihelical cartilage was cut and overturned, and the scalp skin flap was undermined and advanced toward the postauricular sulcus. The edge of the retroauricular scalp flap is fixed on the mastoid periosteum. The incision was closed.

Eighteen patients had unilateral cryptotia, and six had bilateral cryptotia.
