Estimation proceeds using randomization-based approaches that are established in other disciplines and guarantee valid inference by construction. We compared the proposed methods with standard methods empirically using Monte Carlo simulation studies. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved).We critique Roy et al.'s (2020; this issue) approach to characterizing the item-level factor structure of the three scales of the Triarchic Psychopathy Measure (TriPM), in light of the manner in which the TriPM scales were developed, the purposes they were designed to serve, and the growing body of evidence supporting their construct validity. We focus on three major points (1) The TriPM scales are item-based factor scales - i.e., item sets designed to index broad factors of larger multi-scale (parent) inventories; (2) item-level structural analysis can be useful for representing broad dimensions tapped by such scales, but it cannot be expected to provide an accurate picture of narrower subdimensions (facets) assessed by their parent inventories; and (3) it is critical to consider the nomological networks of the TriPM scales (and other triarchic scale measures) in appraising their effectiveness as operationalizations of the triarchic model constructs. We illustrate the first and second of these points by applying Roy et al.'s analytic approach to the trait scales of the NEO-FFI, which were developed to index broad personality dimensions of the multi-scale NEO-PI-R. Thus, this research aimed to assess (a) overall caregiver satisfaction; (b) aspects of TF-CBT caregivers found most and least useful or thought could be improved; and (c) if satisfaction differed between caregivers of completers and noncompleters. Methods In total, 1,778 caregiver/child dyads were included. Caregivers of children receiving TF-CBT completed the Caregiver Satisfaction Questionnaire. To assess overall satisfaction, descriptive statistics were compiled. To assess what aspects of TF-CBT were most/least helpful or could be improved, thematic analysis was conducted. Finally, a t test was conducted to determine whether overall satisfaction with TF-CBT differed between caregivers who had children who did and did not complete treatment. Results Overall satisfaction with TF-CBT was high. Qualitatively, caregivers reported PRACTICE components, communication between parties in treatment, the child learning coping skills, and the child experiencing positive outcomes as most helpful. Least helpful aspects included scheduling, not seeing positive outcomes, and the child and outside factors impeding treatment. When making suggestions for improvement, caregivers suggested changes in scheduling and session length/frequency, and an increase in their involvement. Quantitatively, caregivers of children who completed treatment experienced significantly higher total mean satisfaction scores than caregivers of noncompleters. Conclusions Caregiver satisfaction should be assessed during TF-CBT, with efforts made to identify and address key areas of concern caregivers may be experiencing. Focusing on caregiver satisfaction may prevent treatment attrition, allowing children to increasingly receive evidence-based care. We used 20-year longitudinal data from the Interdisciplinary Longitudinal Study of Adult Development and Aging (ILSE) to examine the role of perceived work environment (autonomy, innovation, social integration, and stress) and work activities derived from an occupational database (related to information, to people, and manual activities) for trajectories of cognitive abilities (processing speed, fluid and crystallized intelligence). We used data from 374 participants in the ILSE midlife cohort (born 1950-52) who were working at baseline and had valid observations on work characteristics and control variables including education, gender, region (former East vs. West Germany), and personal income (mean age at baseline = 44 years, SD = 1, 44% women). Cognitively stimulating perceived work environments (higher levels of autonomy and innovation), higher levels of work activities related to information and people, and lower levels of manual activity at baseline were related to higher initial levels of cognitive ability.
