CONCLUSIONS The motivations of family members to visit during mealtime could guide healthcare professionals working with East Asian populations in developing interventions to reduce the possibility of malnutrition, while also improving their quality of life. We recommend providing the following for nursing home residents a nutritious and balanced diet, supporting their independence and ability to feed themselves, and encouraging involvement of family members during mealtimes. © 2020 Japan Academy of Nursing Science. The practical implementation of lithium-sulfur batteries is obstructed by the poor conductivity, sluggish redox kinetics, notorious shuttle effect, large volume variation, and low areal loading of sulfur electrodes. Herein, to conquer these main bottlenecks of sulfur electrodes, we have meticulously designed amorphous N-doped carbon/MoS 3 (NC/MoS 3 ) nanoboxes with hollow-porous architectures as an advanced sulfur host. Benefiting from the enhanced conductivity by the N-doped carbon, reduced shuttle effect by the strong chemical interaction between unsaturated Mo and lithium polysulfides, improved redox reaction kinetics by the catalytic effect of MoS 3 , great tolerance of volume variation and high sulfur loading arising from flexible amorphous materials with hollow-porous structures, the amorphous NC/MoS 3 nanoboxes enabled sulfur electrodes to deliver a high areal capacity with superior rate capacity and decent cycling stability. Moreover, the proposed synthetic strategy can be generalized to fabricate other amorphous metal sulfides nanoboxes, which are expected to show promising applications in the field of energy storage and conversion. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Mortality after conventional surgical aortic valve replacement in cirrhotic patients depends upon the Child Pugh's class. In the past few years, trans-catheter aortic valve replacement has progressively become the treatment of choice for high risk patients with severe aortic stenosis. Here, we report the cases of three cirrhotic patients who became eligible for liver transplantation after successful trans-catheter aortic valve replacement as bridge therapy. Here, we highlight the different types of biological nanoparticles present in blood that need to be considered in the protein corona research field. learn more We map their size, density and plasma concentrations and use this information to stress potential challenges related to the isolation of nanomedicines, with particular focus on liposomes, when using the traditional isolation methods that separate according to size and density. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, we aimed to investigate the beneficial effects of adjuvant treatment with risperidone and sulforaphane in alleviating irritability of ASD patients. METHODS Sixty drug-free patients, aged 4-12 years, were randomly assigned to two groups receiving risperidone plus sulforaphane or placebo. Risperidone was started with a daily dose of 0.5 mg [>20 kg] and 0.25 mg in others and increased stepwise to reach a maximum of 1 mg [45kg]. The participants were assessed with the Aberrant Behavior Checklist-Community (ABC-C) at baseline, weeks five and ten. RESULTS Compared to the placebo group, ASD patients in the sulforaphane group showed greater improvements in irritability (primary outcome measure) (p = 0.001), hyperactivity/noncompliance (secondary outcome measure) (p = 0.015), and significant time × treatment effect for irritability (p = 0.007) and hyperactivity/noncompliance (p = 0.008). However, no difference was seen in improvements in the other secondary measures lethargy/social interaction, stereotypic behavior, inappropriate speech, and frequency of adverse events. CONCLUSION Our results support the safety and efficacy of sulforaphane as an adjuvant to risperidone for improvement of irritability and hyperactivity symptoms in ASD children. However, the underlying mechanism of oncogenic function of Pin1 in PDAC requires further exploration. MATERIALS AND METHODS IHC was performed using PDAC tissues. Western blot, PCR, immunofluorescence and transwell were performed using cell lines. GSEA were applied for possible downstream pathways. ChIP assay and dual luciferase were used for assessment of transcriptional activity. RESULTS Both Pin1 and IL-18 levels are increased in primary PDAC tissues and that their levels are positively correlated. High expression of IL-18 is a predictor of poor prognoses. Pin1 promoted pancreatic cancer cell proliferation and motility by increasing IL-18 expression, while Pin1 knockdown also inhibited the tumour-promoting effect of IL-18. Both Pin1 and IL-18 could enhance the NFκB activity in pancreatic cancer cells. When bound to the p65 protein, Pin1 promoted p65 phosphorylation and its nuclear translocation. In the nucleus, Pin1 and p65 simultaneously bound to the IL-18 promoter and enhanced IL-18 transcription. In addition, recruitment of p65 to the IL-18 promoter was decreased in Pin1-silenced cells. CONCLUSIONS Our study improves the understanding of Pin1 in tumour-promoting inflammation in PDAC, which is a hallmark of cancer; Pin1 interacted with p65 in PDAC and enhanced NF-κB signalling and downstream transcriptional activation of IL-18, with increased IL-18 continuously activating NF-κB signalling, which then forms a positive feedback loop. © 2020 The Authors.
