Music
Toto is a rock group from America that achieved their greatest success in the 1980s. The band was founded by session musicians who had experience and has sold more than 40 million albums in the world.
The first album by Toto was the self-titled Toto, released in 1978. It was a huge hit that catapulted the band into international fame. Since then, the band has released 14 albums that have all been a hit.
In 1984, Toto wrote their first and to date only, film score for the film Dune. This was a major project that required the entire group to be involved. The album that followed, Kingdom of Desire, was another successful record. After a world tour, Bobby Kimball quit the group. He was replaced by Fergie Frederiksen from Le Roux. The band continued with their fifth studio album, Isolation. The album had a host of songs such as "Stranger in Town".
After Isolation, Toto took a break from the spotlight and went on hiatus. This gave the members of the band a chance to pursue solo projects. In 1996, the band reformed for a tour and an album. This was the first time all of the original members were on stage together for over 10 years.
The following year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the last time that all the original Toto members Toto were performing together. The band broke up after this. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to benefit the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in over 31 years that all of Toto's founding members were on stage together. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
Tours
Toto has remained one of the most loved rock groups for more than three decades, having scored massive hits such as "Rosanna," "Hold The Line," and their 8X-platinum smash, "Africa." The band's anthemic arena-rock is inspired by a variety of styles, including progressive rock, world rhythms, jazz, soul, and.
The band was hit with numerous setbacks in their later years, despite their popularity. In 2002 the keyboardist David Paich and drummer Greg Phillinganes were forced to take a medical leave of absence. Shem von Schröeck was brought in to replace him, but the band wasn't the same without Paich or Phillinganes. In 2008, Toto decided to take a break from touring after a string lineup changes and a series of disappointing releases. The group returned to touring in 2012 after the release of their album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album was a return to the band's top form and the tour that went with it was a sold-out event in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was helped by the inclusion of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, who had both joined the group.
Toto's music is just as relevant today as it was in the 1970s and 1980s, as it has gained new fans with each passing generation. Their success has made them a long-lasting fixture in pop culture and their live shows are always full of energy and excitement.
