The paper aims to understand the main antecedents related to the blood donation propensity related to both donors and non-donors. With our research, we will analyse the two perspectives to identify similarities and differences concentrating on the Italian context. Blood is a vital resource that strongly affects every national healthcare system's efficacy and sustainability and the system's ability to achieve the goal of universal coverage.

The purpose of this paper is to understand the main antecedents of citizens' blood donation intention and the propensity to encourage communication about blood donation among both donors and non-donors. The Theory of Planned Behaviour is adopted as a theoretical lens. An empirical investigation was performed in Italy, adopting a mixed methods research design. First, a qualitative analysis was carried out through 30 in-depth interviews. Then, a survey was used to quantitatively investigate the intention to donate among both donors (N = 173) and non-donors (N = 87). A conceptual model was developed and tested through Structural Equation Modelling, developing a multi-group approach.

The present study confirms the relations proposed by the Theory of Planned Behaviour, even though some differences between the two groups are shown. The construct Information and Communication is crucial for donors, non-donors, whereas for non-donor inhibitors is vital. Service quality has an impact on the propensity to recommend and communicate the value of blood donation.

The prevalence and characteristics of handgun purchasers' criminal charge histories have never been described for a large population of firearm owners, but such information is critical to understanding risk factors for subsequent violence in this population. We sought to characterize legal handgun purchasers in California and compare this group to the state population, to quantify the proportion with a criminal charge history at purchase, and to identify modifiable factors associated with of having such a history.

This cross-sectional study of all 79,927 legal handgun purchasers aged 21-49 years in California in 2001 used log-linear generalized additive models to identify factors associated with having a criminal charge history at purchase. Subjects are from a longitudinal study of incident criminal activity among handgun purchasers.

The majority (91.03%) ofpurchasers were male; whites were overrepresented and Hispanics were underrepresented relative to their population size. At the time of purchase, 16.68% had a criminal charge history and 10.71% had a criminal conviction. Among men with such a history, 31.28% had been charged with a violent crime and 16.54% had been charged with a firearm-related crime. The strongest factor associated with having a criminal charge history was redeeming a pawned handgun (prevalence ratio 1.82; 95% confidence interval 1.71, 1.93).

Eradication of hepatitis C virus (HCV) by direct-acting-antiviral-agents (DAAs) was followed by fibrosis regression, but little is available about hepatic steatosis changes after DAAs. The aim of this work was to assess the prevalence of hepatic steatosis among HCV Egyptian patients and the long term changes occur after viral eradication.

This prospective cohort study included 150 HCV patients with significant fibrosis. They were examined by Transient elastography to evaluate liver stiffness measurement (LSM) and hepatic steatosis before treatment, at SVR12 and 1 year after end of therapy.

LSM showed significant positive correlation to pretreatment hepatic steatosis. LSM significantly decreased and hepatic steatosis significantly increased both at SVR12 and one year after DAAs. Patients with steatosis showed significantly higher median LSM and controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) values at baseline, SVR12, and one year after therapy. Also, the pretreatment steatosis and body mass index (BMI) had significant negative correlation with fibrosis regression one year after therapy in all studied groups.

Most of the new compounds were active in the cell-based anti-HIV-1 assay with EC50 < 50 M. Among them, compounds 7g was found to be the most active molecule. Docking study using 3OYA pdb code on the most active molecule 7g with EC50 values of 10 M showed a similar binding mode to the HIV integrase inhibitors.
