0CL IOL exceeded the SPE rates for monocular CDVA and AEs were within the limit of historic SPE rates. (Model number SY60WF is the Clareon lens approved by the FDA.).

To investigate the prevalence, locations, and characteristics of peripheral anterior synechiae (PAS) formation after microhook ab-interno trabeculotomy (µLOT), a minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, using a 360-degree gonio-camera, gonioscope GS-1 (NIDEK Co., Gamagori, Japan).

A total of 105 consecutive eyes of 75 subjects with open-angle glaucoma were analyzed. The eyes had undergone µLOT or combined µLOT and cataract surgery as an initial glaucoma surgery. Postoperative PAS formation was evaluated in 16 iridocorneal angle images with the best focus covering 360 degrees in each eye.

Compared to baseline, at 225±226 days postoperatively, the intraocular pressure and number of antiglaucoma medications decreased significantly (p<0.01, respectively). PAS developed in 86% of eyes. The mean number of iridocorneal angle images that showed PAS in all eyes was 4.1 (26%) in the total circumference, 3.1 (39%) within the µLOT incision, and 1.0 (13%) outside of the µLOT incision; the rate was significantly (p<0.0001) higher within the incision than outside of the incision. Moreover, the higher total PAS rate and that within the incision may be associated with later postoperative days (p=0.01 and 0.004, respectively), that outside of the incision with µLOT alone rather than the combined surgery, and with shallower preoperative central anterior chamber depth (p=0.048 and 0.04, respectively), calculated by the mixed-effect model.

The current results showed the characteristics of PAS formation after µLOT using 360-degree gonio-images, and the formation rate was significantly higher within the µLOT incision. The PAS within and outside of the incision had different causes.

The formation of reactive oxygen species occurs primarily from the mitochondrial respiratory chain as well as several enzymatic and oxidation reactions that occur in the neurosensory retina and retinal pigment epithelium. This oxidative stress has been implicated in the pathogenesis of several retinal diseases and the role of antioxidants as a therapeutic treatment shows promise in slowing the progression of certain diseases. The aim of this narrative review is to describe the mechanisms of retinal oxidative stress and summarize the current available evidence for antioxidants as a treatment for vitreoretinal disorders.

To report the outcomes of femtosecond-assisted laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) in patients with previous corneal scarring using optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging to determine flap depths.

The charts of 11 eyes of 9 patients with previous off-visual axis corneal scarring that underwent femtosecond LASIK using OCT guidance for flap depth determination were retrospectively reviewed at a single private practice institution. The baseline characteristics, intraoperative findings and postoperative outcomes were analyzed.

All 11 eyes underwent femtosecond laser flap creation and LASIK without any significant intraoperative complications. Uncorrected visual acuity improved postoperatively (p<0.0001) and remained stable at 3 months follow-up. None of the subjects lost any lines of best spectacle corrected visual acuity or developed any flap complications during the postoperative period.

The OCT-guided femtosecond laser technique described in this report can provide a safe and effective method to deliver LASIK in the setting of previous corneal scarring. Future investigations are required to further validate the findings in this study.

To find out the correlation between myopic refractive error, corneal power and central corneal thickness (CCT) in the adult Egyptian population.

A retrospective observational cross-sectional study in which we analyzed the preoperative data of 1401 Egyptian myopic patients (1401 eyes) who underwent keratorefractive procedures between 2016 and 2019 in a private eye surgery center.

Mean age of patients was 28.1± 5.79 years (range 18-40). Mean CCT in the Egyptian population sample in our study was 539.23± 32.24. Only the corneal power parameters (flat K, steep K and average K) showed a statistically significant difference (p-value <0.001) between males and females. A statistically significant and weak positive correlation of average K with the absolute value of refractive astigmatism (r = 0.063, p-value = 0.018), and between myopic error with average K (r = 0.136, p-value <0.001) was found.

Among the myopic adult Egyptian population, the greater the myopic error measured, the steeper the cornea, with a weak positive correlation between refractive error and corneal power.

The ongoing pandemic of COVID-19 viruses takes its sole origin from the Wuhan Huanan seafood market, China. The first case was recorded as viral pneumonia and later became a worldwide pandemic (officially declared by WHO on March 11, 2020).

SARS-CoV-2 is an extremely infectious and transferrable virus that develops severe conditions like respiratory syndrome, high blood pressure and weakens the immune system. Coronavirus falls under the Coronaviridae family and Beta coronavirus genus. Affected individuals will encounter problems starting with fever followed by severe complications like SARS, ARDS, and many others. CH5126766 clinical trial These SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV enter the host cells by the endosomal pathway, and about 16 non-structural proteins are involved in assembling the viral RNA synthesis complex. They possess a positive-sense single-stranded RNA, and about four major genes are mainly associated with the development of ASRD, SARS, and other respiratory problems.

Susceptibility of these four major genes such as ACE2, IL-2, 7 and 10, TNF, and VEGF is associated with COVID-19.
