Cercopithifilaria bainae is a filarioid nematode of dogs shown to use Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato (s.l.), the brown dog tick, as the vector. Previously in the United States, C. bainae infections have been reported in a dog from Florida, and in dogs and ticks in Oklahoma, but data are lacking from other areas of the country. Here, we tested brown dog ticks from across the United States for C. bainae DNA to assess the geographic distribution of where this novel parasite may be cycling in ticks and dogs. Archival brown dog ticks were available for testing through the national tick survey Show Us Your Ticks. Ticks were morphologically identified, dissected, and tested by PCR to detect filarioid mitochondrial DNA. A total of 1400 brown dog ticks were tested from 321 separate animals from 23 states, with 5.7 % (80/1400) of the ticks testing positive for C. bainae DNA. At least one positive tick was detected in submissions from 9 states in addition to Florida and Oklahoma. Cercopithifilaria bainae DNA was detected in larval, nymphal, and adult stages of brown dog ticks and only in ticks removed from dogs. Of all dogs with brown dog ticks collected from them, 17.6 % (55/312) were infested with at least one tick that harbored C. bainae DNA. Findings from this study demonstrate a wider geographic range of C. bainae than previously known, and that dogs are commonly infested with brown dog ticks with molecular evidence of C. bainae infection.

Individuals with Huntington's disease (HD) have impairments in performing dual-tasks, however, there is limited information about the effects of changing postural and cognitive demands as well as which measures are best suited as markers of underlying motor-cognitive interference.

Forty-three individuals with HD and 15 healthy controls (HC) completed single tasks of walking (Timed Up & Go (TUG), 7m walk), standing (feet together, feet apart and foam surface) and seated cognitive performance (Stroop, Symbol Digit Modalities Test (SDMT), Delis-Kaplan Executive Function System (DKEFS) Sorting test) and dual cognitive-motor tasks while standing (+ Stroop) and walking (+ DKEFS, TUG cognitive). APDM Opal sensors recorded measures of postural sway and time to complete motor tasks.

Individuals with HD had a greater increase in standing postural sway compared to HC from single to dual-tasks and with changes to support surface. More precisely, we wondered whether such coordination could free up some attentional resources and help improve performance in other more demanding attentional tasks. An experiment was performed in which participant attentional allocation was challenged by performing three tasks simultaneously while simultaneously being induced to unintentional entrain to an environmental rhythm. The first task was an interception task associated with a Stroop test to increase their attentional load. The second task was a reaction time test to alarms in different modalities (auditory, visual and bimodal) which was used to assess participant attentional load. The third task was a motor task in which participants were asked to swing their legs at a preferred frequency. The interface background brightness intensity was either synchronized in real time using a bidirectional coupling to participant leg movement or the background brightness was not changing at all. Our results on the reaction time task demonstrated that participants exhibited better reaction times for alarms in the bimodal condition than in the auditory condition and lastly for the visual condition. Also, participants exhibited a lower reaction time to alarms when the background brightness was synchronizing with their leg regardless the alarm modality. Overall, our study suggests a beneficial effect of unintentional environmental coordination on attentional resource allocation and highlights the importance of bidirectionality in interaction.In human movement, synergies occur when two or more variables co-vary to stabilize a performance goal. The concept of motor redundancy is associated with the existence of several strategies to complete the same task, which enables a movement system to adapt to an ever-changing environment. This feature provides the system with the ability of being flexible enough to produce adaptive movements, but also stable enough to produce acceptable outputs which is a key issue in motor performance. In a kinetic chain of movement, two proximal joints might reciprocally compensate to stabilize an end-effector (i.e., the most distal segment in the limb that interacts with the environment). End-effector variables are 'controlled', and directly linked to performance, whereas the task relevant elements are allowed by the system to have high variability, providing adaptability. In basketball dribbling, we hypothesized that shoulder and elbow variability contributes to stabilize the dribble height as an end-effector performance variable. The control of the wrist peak height is achieved due to a reciprocal compensation between shoulder and elbow which stabilizes the dribbling height.Bovine alphaherpesvirus-1 (BoHV-1), the causative agent of infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR), is an economically important viral pathogen affecting cattle and buffaloes. Serological assays are mostly used for detection of the antibodies, but variation has been detected in the diagnostic performances of the individual assay. In the present study, four commercially available ELISA kits two indirect ELISA (kits A and B) and two blocking ELISA (kits C and D) were evaluated for the detection of antibodies against BoHV-1 in Indian cattle and buffaloes (fitness of purpose). The diagnostic sensitivity (dsn) and specificity (dsp) of these kits were determined by three ways; considering virus neutralization test (VNT) as gold standard test, using pre-test information of the samples, and majority of tests. Screening of 200 known negative sera (124 cattle, 76 buffaloes) sourced from IBR free farms revealed gB based ELISA kits are more specific than the indirect ELISA kits. Testing of 125 known positive sera (81 cattle, 44 buffaloes) suggests kit B be most sensitive followed by kit C, A and D. Interestingly, kit D was found to be most sensitive for detection of vaccination-induced BoHV-1 antibodies followed by kit B. Similar trend were also observed in the limit of dilution experiment performed using known infected and vaccinated sera. VNT was found to be the most specific test and its use as the gold standard test revealed all kits to have more than 99 % sensitivity. All the ELISA kits could detect BoHV-1 specific antibodies in the IBR vaccinated calves as early as 11 days post-vaccination. In Kappa statistics, an almost perfect agreement between the ELISA kits was recorded. The overall performance of the kits in serodiagnosis of IBR as determined by the area under curve in ROC analysis was good.

The objective of this study was to examine the influence of maternal nutrient intake during pregnancy on the baby's birth weight at term.

A cross-sectional study design was used to evaluate a sample of women aged 18 to 44 y in the postpartum period in a public maternity department (2018-2019), with dietary intake collected by a validated food frequency questionnaire (n=626 mother-offspring pairs). A multivariable linear regression model was used to identify the influence of nutrient intake during pregnancy on the baby's birth weight at term. The model was adjusted for maternal energy intake, education level, gestational age, physical activity, and supplementation during pregnancy.

Maternal intake of vitamins B

and C was associated with an increase in birth weight (respectively, β=0.01; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.01-0.02; P=0.01; and β=0.01; 95% CI, 0.01-0.02; P=0.02). Prepregnancy body mass index (β=0.01; 95% CI, 0.01-0.02; P=0.001), gestational weight gain (β=0.02; 95% CI, 0.01-0.02; P < 0.001), parity (β=0.05; 95% CI, 0.02-0.09; P=0.001), and male babies (β=0.08; 95% CI, 0.01-0.02; P=0.02) also contributed to increase birth weight. The objective of this study was to investigate the association between measures of body composition based on bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and histologic severity of liver disease in a pediatric cohort with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

This was a cross-sectional study of patients < 20 y old with histologically confirmed NAFLD followed in our Steatohepatitis Center from 2017 to 2019. Contemporaneous body-composition data were obtained using a multifrequency octopolar BIA device (InBody 370, InBody, Seoul, South Korea). BIA data collected were skeletal muscle mass, appendicular muscle mass, and percentage body fat. Skeletal and appendicular muscle mass were corrected for height (dividing by the square of height), generating their respective indices. Univariate linear and logistic regression, followed by multivariable logistic regression analyses, were used.

Of the 79 children included (27% female, 73% male; 38% Hispanic; median age, 13 y; median body mass index Z-score, 2.43), theclinical decision making in this context.
