Service use and health related quality of life data will also be collected to carry out a cost effectiveness and utility evaluation. DISCUSSION Findings from this study will inform policy regarding interventions for challenging behaviour in young children with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER Clinicaltrials.gov, NCT03086876. Registered 22nd March 2017, https//clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03086876.BACKGROUND To describe factors which influence the age at detection and age at presentation of patients with childhood cataract at a tertiary eye care facility in Southwest Nigeria. METHODS A retrospective review of children who presented with cataract between 2011 and 2015. Case notes were reviewed and data on age at detection and presentation as well as other clinical information was collected and analyzed using Stata 12 statistical software. RESULTS A total of 164 cases were reviewed, 52.4% of them were boys. Median age at presentation was 48 months while the median age at detection was 13.5 months. Seventy-four (45.1%) children had congenital cataract, 31.1% had developmental cataract, and 21.3% had traumatic cataract. The child's mother detected the cataract in 116 (70.7%) of the patients. Median age at presentation for patients with congenital cataract was 18 months and 84 months for developmental cataract. The median age at presentation for congenital cataracts that were noticed by the mother was 17 months compared with 72 months for those noticed by other caregivers (p = 0.0085). The median age at presentation for developmental cataracts that were noticed by the mother was 72 months compared with 114 months for those noticed by other caregivers (p = 0.0065). Gender of the child did not significantly influence the age at detection or presentation. The source of referral and the location of domicile did not significantly affect the time interval between detection of the cataract and presentation to hospital. CONCLUSION The average age of children presenting with cataracts in our setting is older than in high income countries. Detection of the cataract by the mother increases the likelihood of early presentation; thus, focused maternal education may promote earlier detection and presentation.BACKGROUND In the Swedish population-based follow-up program and national quality registry for individuals with cerebral palsy (CPUP), physiotherapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) treatments are regularly recorded along with functional status. By Swedish law, all citizens irrespective of personal characteristics or socioeconomic status, have the right to receive healthcare and medical treatments as applicable. Previous research has shown gender differences in treatments and interventions received by children with cerebral palsy (CP). The purpose of this study was to examine differences in treatments and interventions by gender and place of birth in children and adolescents participating in CPUP. METHODS This was a cross-sectional registry study. Data from the latest PT (n = 2635) and OT assessment forms (n = 3480) in CPUP were extracted for individuals aged 0-17 years. Logistic regressions were used to assess the relationships between the outcome variables and gender and place of birth (including an interfference based on place of birth was noted for spinal bracing and having received ITB treatment. Other PT and OT treatments were associated with age, level of spasticity, and functional severity as classified using the GMFCS and the MACS. Increased awareness of differences based on gender, and where a child is born, could be obtained by inter- and intraprofessional discussions.BACKGROUND Problematic mobile phone use (PMPU) has become a public health issue in China, particularly in adolescents and young adults. The Problematic Mobile Phone Use Questionnaire-Short Version (PMPUQ-SV) is a validated instrument that measures multiple aspects of PMPU. The current study aimed to test the psychometric characteristics of a Chinese adaption of the PMPUQ-SV and examine its measurement invariance across gender. METHODS A total of 2086 participants were recruited form nine schools (six undergraduate colleges and three vocational colleges) through an online platform. Akt inhibitor Measures included socio-demographic variables, patterns of mobile phone use, the Chinese version of the PMPUQ-SV (C-PMPUQ-SV), the Chinese version of the Smartphone Addiction Proneness Scale (C-SAPS), and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-21). RESULTS Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses conducted in two independent subsamples confirmed that the postulated dimensions fit the data well. Four items, judged as either outdated or not adapted to the Chinese context, performed poorly and were removed, resulting in a shorter 11-item scale. Convergent validity was established through correlations between emotional symptoms and the C-PMPUQ-SV and addictive smartphone use. Additional measurement invariance analyses showed that the scale performed largely similarly in male and female participants. CONCLUSIONS The present study demonstrated that the C-PMPUQ-SV is an adequate instrument to study various types of PMPU in Chinese adolescents and young adults. The updated 11-item scale shortens the evaluation time and is adapted to assess contemporary smartphone use.BACKGROUND Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) is characterized by an intense fear of negative judgement by others. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is recommended for treatment, but a substantial part of individuals with SAD either do not seek treatment or drop-out. CBT with Virtual Reality (VR)-based exposure has several advantages compared to traditional exposure methods, mainly due to increased control of situational elements. The aim of the current study is to develop a CBT program containing VR-based exposure. The intervention is targeted to adult patients suffering from SAD and treatment effect will be assessed by changes in SAD symptoms. METHODS This article describes the study protocol of a Randomized Controlled Trial with three arms 1) CBT with VR exposure based on 360° videos 2) CBT with in vivo exposure and 3) VR relaxation therapy. There will be 30 participants in each arm with a crossover at the end of the treatment period during which the participants in the third group will be randomly re-allocated to one of the two former groups.
