Moreover, fSampEn of EMGdi was used as characteristic parameter to build a quantitative relationship with the airflow by polynomial regression analysis. Mean coefficient of determination of all subjects in any breathing state is greater than 0.88. Finally, nonlinear programming method was used to solve a universal fitting coefficient between fSampEn of EMGdi and airflow for each subject to further evaluate the possibility of using surface EMGdi to monitor and control respiratory activity.Surface electromyogram pattern recognition (EMG-PR) requires time-consuming training and retraining procedures for long-term use, hindering the usability of myoelectric control. In this paper, we design a fabric myoelectric armband to reduce the electrode shifts. Furthermore, we propose a fully unsupervised adaptive approach called hybrid serial classifier (HSC) to eliminate the burden of retraining over multiply days. We investigated the performance of our approach with a dataset of ten types of forearm motion from ten male subjects over eight weeks (total ten days, including from day 1 to day 7, day 14, day 28, day 56). The average inter-day classification accuracies of HSC without any new retraining data are 86.61% when trained exclusively with the first day's EMG data, and 94.77% when trained with other nine days' data. We compare our proposed HSC algorithm with linear discriminant analysis (LDA) without recalibration (BLDA) and supervised adaption LDA (ALDA) with just one trial of new retraining data. The inter-day classification accuracy of HSC is significantly higher than that of BLDA and ALDA. These results indicate that our novel armband sEMG device is feasible for long-term use in conjunction with the proposed HSC algorithm.Robot-assisted bimanual training is promising to improve motor function and cortical reorganization for hemiparetic stroke patients. Closing the rehabilitation training loop with neurofeedback can help refine training protocols in time for better engagements and outcomes. However, due to the low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and non-stationary properties of neural signals, reliable characterization of bimanual training-induced neural activities from single-trial measurement is challenging. 1,4-Diaminobutane In this study, ten human participants were recruited conducting robot-assisted bimanual cyclical tasks (in-phase, 90° out-of-phase, and anti-phase) when concurrent electroencephalography (EEG) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) were recorded. A unified EEG-fNIRS bimodal signal processing framework was proposed to characterize neural activities induced by three types of bimanual cyclical tasks. In this framework, novel artifact removal methods were used to improve the SNR and the task-related component analysis (TRCA) was introduced to increase the reproducibility of EEG-fNIRS bimodal features. The optimized features were transformed into low-dimensional indicators to reliably characterize bimanual training-induced neural activation. The SVM classification results of three bimanual cyclical tasks revealed a good discrimination ability of EEG-fNIRS bimodal indicators (90.1%), which was higher than that using EEG (74.8%) or fNIRS (82.2%) alone, supporting the proposed method as a feasible technique to characterize neural activities during robot-assisted bimanual training.Deep sleep staging networks have reached top performance on large-scale datasets. However, these models perform poorer when training and testing on small sleep cohorts due to data inefficiency. Transferring well-trained models from large-scale datasets (source domain) to small sleep cohorts (target domain) is a promising solution but still remains challenging due to the domain-shift issue. In this work, an unsupervised domain adaptation approach, domain statistics alignment (DSA), is developed to bridge the gap between the data distribution of source and target domains. DSA adapts the source models on the target domain by modulating the domain-specific statistics of deep features stored in the Batch Normalization (BN) layers. Furthermore, we have extended DSA by introducing cross-domain statistics in each BN layer to perform DSA adaptively (AdaDSA). The proposed methods merely need the well-trained source model without access to the source data, which may be proprietary and inaccessible. DSA and AdaDSA are universally applicable to various deep sleep staging networks that have BN layers. We have validated the proposed methods by extensive experiments on two state-of-the-art deep sleep staging networks, DeepSleepNet+ and U-time. The performance was evaluated by conducting various transfer tasks on six sleep databases, including two large-scale databases, MASS and SHHS, as the source domain, four small sleep databases as the target domain. Thereinto, clinical sleep records acquired in Huashan Hospital, Shanghai, were used. The results show that both DSA and AdaDSA could significantly improve the performance of source models on target domains, providing novel insights into the domain generalization problem in sleep staging tasks.Hyperscanning is a brain imaging technique that measures brain synchrony caused by social interactions. Recent research on hyperscanning has revealed substantial inter-brain synchrony (IBS), but little is known about the link between IBS and mental workload. To study this link, we conducted an experiment consisting of button-pressing tasks of three different difficulty levels for the cooperation and competition modes with 56 participants aged 23.7± 3.8 years (mean±standard deviation). We attempted to observe IBS using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and galvanic skin response (GSR) to assess the activities of the human autonomic nervous system. We found that the IBS levels increased in a frequency band of 0.075-0.15 Hz, which was unrelated to the task repetition frequency in the cooperation mode according to the task difficulty level. Significant relative inter-brain synchrony (RIBS) increases were observed in three and 10 channels out of 15 for the hard tasks compared to the normal and easy tasks, respectively. We observed that the average GSR values increased with increasing task difficulty levels for the competition mode only. Thus, our results suggest that the IBS revealed by fNIRS and GSR is not related to the hemodynamic changes induced by mental workload, simple behavioral synchrony such as button-pressing timing, or autonomic nervous system activity. IBS is thus explicitly caused by social interactions such as cooperation.Highly sophisticated control based on a brain-computer interface (BCI) requires decoding kinematic information from brain signals. The forearm is a region of the upper limb that is often used in everyday life, but intuitive movements within the same limb have rarely been investigated in previous BCI studies. In this study, we focused on various forearm movement decoding from electroencephalography (EEG) signals using a small number of samples. Ten healthy participants took part in an experiment and performed motor execution (ME) and motor imagery (MI) of the intuitive movement tasks (Dataset I). We propose a convolutional neural network using a channel-wise variational autoencoder (CVNet) based on inter-task transfer learning. We approached that training the reconstructed ME-EEG signals together will also achieve more sufficient classification performance with only a small amount of MI-EEG signals. The proposed CVNet was validated on our own Dataset I and a public dataset, BNCI Horizon 2020 (Dataset II). The classification accuracies of various movements are confirmed to be 0.83 (±0.04) and 0.69 (±0.04) for Dataset I and II, respectively. The results show that the proposed method exhibits performance increases of approximately 0.09~0.27 and 0.08~0.24 compared with the conventional models for Dataset I and II, respectively. The outcomes suggest that the training model for decoding imagined movements can be performed using data from ME and a small number of data samples from MI. Hence, it is presented the feasibility of BCI learning strategies that can sufficiently learn deep learning with a few amount of calibration dataset and time only, with stable performance.Real-time graphics applications require high-quality textured materials to convey realism in virtual environments. Generating these textures is challenging as they need to be visually realistic, seamlessly tileable, and have a small impact on the memory consumption of the application. For this reason, they are often created manually by skilled artists. In this work, we present SeamlessGAN,a method capable of automatically generating tileable texture maps from a single input exemplar. In contrast to most existing methods, focused solely on solving the synthesis problem, our work tackles both problems, synthesis and tileability, simultaneously. Our key idea isto realize that tiling a latent space within a generative network trained using adversarial expansion techniques produces outputs with continuity at the seam intersection that can be then be turned into tileable images by cropping the central area. Since not every value of the latent space is valid to produce high-quality outputs, we leverage the discriminator as a perceptual error metric capable of identifying artifact-free textures during a sampling process. Further, in contrast to previous work on deep texture synthesis, our model is designed and optimized to work with multi-layered texture representations, enabling textures composed of multiple maps such as albedo, normals, etc. We extensively test our design choices for the network architecture, loss function, and sampling parameters. We show qualitatively and quantitatively that our approach outperforms previous methods and works for textures of different types.Porous and composite piezoelectric ceramics are of interest for underwater ultrasonic transducers due to their improved voltage sensitivity and acoustic matching with water, compared with their dense counterparts. Commonly, these materials are fabricated by dice-and-fill of sintered blocks of polycrystalline piezoceramic, which results in a high volume of waste. The freeze-casting technique offers a low waste and scalable alternative to the dice-and-fill method to produce porous piezoceramics with highly orientated, anisometric pores. In this article, we have fabricated underwater ultrasonic transducers from freeze-cast lead zirconate titanate (PZT) with a range of porosities. The porous PZT samples were characterized in terms of their piezoelectric and dielectric properties before being encapsulated for acoustic performance testing in water. Off resonance, the on- axis receive sensitivity of the manufactured devices was approximately [Formula see text]; the transmit voltage response (TVR) was in the range of approximately [Formula see text] at 60 kHz to [Formula see text] at 180 kHz. The most porous transducer devices (0.51, 0.43, and 0.33 pore fraction) exhibited primarily a thickness mode resonance, whereas the least porous transducers (0.29 pore fraction and dense benchmark) exhibited an undesired radial mode, which was observed as an additional resonant peak in the electrical impedance measurements and lateral off-axis lobes in the acoustic beampatterns. Our results show that the acoustic sensitivities and TVRs of the porous freeze-cast transducers are comparable to those of a dense pressed transducer. However, the freeze-cast transducers with porosity exceeding 0.30 pore fraction were shown to achieve an effective structure with aligned porosity that suppressed undesired radial mode resonances.
