The majority of tuberculosis (TB) cases in Sweden occur among migrants from endemic countries through activation of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI). Sweden has LTBI-screening policies for migrants that have not been previously evaluated. This study aimed to assess the cost-effectiveness of the current screening strategy in Stockholm.
A Markov model was developed to predict the costs and effects of the current LTBI-screening program compared to a scenario of no LTBI screening over a 50-year time horizon. Epidemiological and cost data were obtained from local sources when available. The primary outcomes were incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) in terms of societal cost per quality-adjusted life year (QALY).
Screening migrants in the age group 13-19years had the lowest ICER, 300,082 Swedish Kronor (SEK)/QALY, which is considered cost-effective in Sweden. In the age group 20-34, ICER was 714,527 SEK/QALY (moderately cost-effectives) and in all age groups above 34 ICERs were above 1,000,000 SEK/QALY (not cost-effective). find more ICER decreased with increasing TB incidence in country of origin.

We obtained polyploid progeny from triploid hybrids through selfing and crossing experiments. Triploids occasionally formed well-filled spores. The mean occurrence frequencies of well-filled and germinated spores were 2.8% and 0.8%, respectively. Viable spores that succeeded in germinating were regarded as unreduced, triploid spores, because the resulting gametophytes yielded triploid (2n = 86-92) and hexaploid (2n = 170-184) progeny in both isolated and mixed cultures of gametophytes. The triploid and hexaploid progeny likely arose apogamously and sexually, respectively. One of the hexaploid progeny yielded hexaploid sporophytes (2n = 169-180) in the mixed culture of its gametophytes. Artificial crossing between triploid and diploid sporophytes produced tetraploid (2n = 116, 120) and pentaploid (2n = 145-150) progeny that likely arose through the mating of 3x gametes from the triploid with both 1x and 2x gametes from the diploid, respectively. This study investigated toxic metals concentrations, pollution levels and human health risks assessment of urban soils in Yazd City, as an industrial city in center of Iran. Soil surface samples (0-10 cm) were collected from 30 points in the area for geochemical analysis. The concentrations of heavy metals were determined using an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). link2 The values of the mean concentrations of toxic metals (mg kg-1) in the urban soils decrease in the order of Zn (83.9) > Pb (34.5) > Cr (32.6) > Cu (23.5) > Ni (23.4) > As (5.86) > Co (4.86) > Cd (0.27). The mean concentration of Zn, Pb, As and Cd elements was higher than the background and the crust values. A pollution assessment by Geo-accumulation Index (Igeo), Pollution Index (PI), Contamination Degree (CD), the Integrated Pollution Index (IPI), the Pollution Load Index (PLI) and Integrated N that oral intake is the main pathway that toxic metals can harm human health for both the child and adults. The carcinogenic risks (RI) of adults and child by toxic metals were as follows Ni > Pb > Cr > As > Cd. Hazard quotients (HQ) and hazard index (HI) values for child also were higher than these for adults. Generally, the results demonstrated that the potential carcinogenic health risks for adults of toxic metals were in an acceptable range in study area, whereas for Cr, Ni and Pb with RI > 10-4, the risk of cancer in child probably increases.

. However, the evidence for a relationship between NO
exposure and dermatologic diseases (DMs) is limited. This time-series study was conducted to assess the short-term effect of nitrogen dioxide (NO
) exposure on DMs outpatient visits in Xinxiang, China.
Daily recordings of NO
concentrations, meteorological data, and the outpatient visits data for DMs were collected in Xinxiang from January 1st, 2015, to December 31st, 2018. The analysis method used was based on the generalized additive model (GAM) with quasi-Poisson regression to investigate the relationship between NO
exposure and DMs outpatient visits. Several covariates, such as long-term trends, seasonality, and weather conditions were controlled.
A total of 164,270 DMs outpatients were recorded. A 10μg/m
increase in NO
concentrations during the period was associated with a 1.86% increase in DMs outpatient visits (95% confidence intervals [Cl] 1.06-2.66%). link3 link3 The effect was stronger (around 6 times) in the cool seasons than in warmer seasons and younger patients (< 15years of age) appeared to be more vulnerable.
The findings of this study indicate that short-term exposure to NO
increases the risk of DMs in Xinxiang, China, especially in the cool seasons. Policymakers should implement more stringent air quality standards to improve air quality.

Policymakers should implement more stringent air quality standards to improve air quality.Epidemiological studies have suggested that particulate matter (PM) pollution seriously affects human health, particularly it is closely associated with respiratory diseases. find more The aim of this study is to quantitatively evaluate the effect of PMs (PM10 and PM2.5) on emergency room (ER) visits for respiratory diseases in Lanzhou, a valley basin city in northwest China. link2 Based on the data of the ER visits, daily concentration of particulate matters and daily meteorological elements from January 1, 2013, to July 31, 2017, we used a generalized additive model (GAM) of time series to evaluate the exposure-response relationship between PMs and respiratory ER visits. Seasonal modified effects of PM2.5 and PM10 on different age and gender groups were also performed. Results showed that the highest incidence of respiratory diseases occurred in winter. Respiratory ER visits for the total were significantly associated with PM2.5 (at lag 0 day) and PM10 (at lag 3 days), with relative risks (RRs) of 1.042 (95%CI 1.036 -1.047) and 1.013 (95%CI 1.011-1.016), respectively. Effects of PM pollutants on respiratory diseases are different among different age and gender groups. Children under 15 years and the elders over 60 years were the most sensitive to PM pollution, and males were more sensitive than females. The results obtained in the current study would provide a scientific evidence for local government to make policy decision for prevention of respiratory diseases.The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the need for a bedside tool for lung mechanics assessment and ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) monitoring. Mechanical power is a unifying concept including all the components which can possibly cause VILI (volume, pressures, flow, respiratory rate), but the complexity of its mathematical computation makes it not so feasible in routine practice and limits its clinical use. In this letter, we describe the development of a mobile application that allows to simply measure power associated with mechanical ventilation, identifying each component (respiratory rate, resistance, driving pressure, PEEP volume) as well. link3 The major advantage, according to the authors who developed this mathematical description of mechanical power, is that it enables the quantification of the relative contribution of its different components (tidal volume, driving pressure, respiratory rate, resistance). Considering the potential role of medical apps to improve work efficiency, we developed an open source Progressive Web Application (PWA), named "PowerApp" (freely available at https//mechpower.goodbarber.app ), in order to easily obtain a bedside measurement of mechanical power and its components. It also allows to predict how the modification of ventilatory settings or physiological conditions would affect power and each relative component. The "PowerApp" allows to measure mechanical power at a glance during mechanical ventilation, without complex mathematical computation, and making mechanical power equation useful and feasible for everyday clinical practice.
