Treatment with crude extract (TSETOH) and fractions (TSHEX, TSTOL) significantly reduced (P  less then  0.001) the mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α) and nitric oxide (NO) production in LPS-stimulated inflammation in RAW 264.7 cells in a dose-dependent manner. Maternal mortality is one of the main causes of death for women of childbearing age in Mali, and improving this outcome is slow, even in regions with relatively good geographic access to care. Disparities in maternal health services utilization can constitute a major obstacle in the reduction of maternal mortalityin Mali and indicates a lack of equity in the Malian health system. Literature on maternal health inequity has explored structural and individual factors influencing outcomes but has not examined inequities in health facility distribution within districts with moderate geographic access. The purpose of this article is to examine disparities in education and geographic distance and how they affect utilization of maternal care within the Sélingué health district, a district with moderate geographic access to care, near Bamako, Mali.

We conducted a cross sectional survey with cluster sampling in the Sélingué health district. Maternal health services characteristics and indicators were described. Assate geographic access, indicates that deliberate attention should be paid to addressing geographic access even in such a district.

This is a pilot study of the Vermont Family Based Approach, an innovative health promotion program designed to address behavioral health prevention in primary care, adapted for perinatal women. We aimed to determine the acceptability of the intervention across socioeconomic strata, and to identify if participation improves perinatal mental health.

Recruitment occurred at a general obstetrics practice. Women 12-25weeks gestation were paired with a wellness coach who administered a wellness assessment and used motivational interviewing to facilitate individualized plans based on evidence-based domains of health promotion. Participants were offered access to free, co-located wellness activities through the peripartum, and referred to behavioral health services if appropriate.

Postpartum depression (PPD) affects 10-15% of mothers in the general population, and studies show increased incidence for mothers of infants with serious health conditions. This study investigates incidence of PPD in mothers of surgical patients in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and characterizes these patients' clinical and neurodevelopmental outcomes.

This retrospective cohort study analyzed Nebraska's Tracking Infant Progress Statewide (TIPS) database and referring hospital medical records from February 2013 to June 2018. Upon NICU discharge, children were referred to the TIPS program, with scheduled follow-up appointments at approximately 6months corrected age. All patients seen in NICU follow-up clinic with recorded scores for maternal Edinburgh postnatal depression screen (EPDS) were eligible except infants with congenital heart disease as this cohort was previously studied. Patients were stratified into groups based on presence or absence of a general surgical procedure within the first 6 ost-partum depression compared to other NICU mothers. This underscores the importance of routine screening for PPD in mothers of both surgical and non-surgical NICU patients in order to identify parents and children at risk.

Metabolic hearing loss involves declines in the endocochlear potential, which broadly reduce cochlear amplification of low-level sounds. Sensory hearing loss involves damage to outer hair cells that may eliminate amplification, especially for high-frequency sounds. A novel approach was developed to estimate the extent of metabolic and sensory components (in dB) for an individual, by combining hearing loss profiles to optimally approximate their hearing thresholds (audiogram). This approach was validated using estimates of metabolic and sensory hearing loss from retrospective datasets including gerbils, cross-sectional and longitudinal audiograms from older adults, a measure of speech recognition in noise, and histopathology case reports. Simulation results showed that well-approximated audiograms can produce accurate metabolic and sensory estimates. Estimates of metabolic and sensory components of age-related hearing loss differentiated gerbils with known strial and/or sensory pathologies based on age and exposures. For older adults, metabolic estimates consistently increased with age and were associated with poorer speech recognition in noise, while sensory estimates were related to sex and noise exposure differences. Histopathology case reports (with audiograms) that described strial and outer hair cell pathology in temporal bones from older donors showed significant differences in metabolic and sensory estimates, respectively. A growing body of evidence suggests that pyroptosis is closely related to cancer, and it is becoming a new cancer research topic. Studies have suggested that different cancer cells activate pyroptosis in different ways and that the effects of pyroptosis vary in different cancer backgrounds. In this article, we briefly introduce the definition, characteristics, and activation pathways of pyroptosis. Then we review the complex effects of pyroptosis on cancer development, which generally include inhibition of cancer cell viability, impacts on the invasion and migration of cancer cells, improvement of antitumor immunity, and enhancement of chemotherapy sensitivity. We also discuss drugs and compounds that can induce pyroptosis, as well as the interaction between pyroptosis and apoptosis. Elucidating the mechanisms of the complex effects of pyroptosis is likely to pave the way for therapeutic approaches for cancer in the future.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a common autoimmune disease with significant gender bias in women, and sex hormones are considered to play an important role in the regulation of immune activity. The CD45 isoforms generated through alternative splicing of mRNA identify different functional status of lymphocytes and also are suggested as a biomarker for assessing the progression of SLE, while the modulation of CD45 expression in SLE patients is not clear.

In this study, the peripheral blood sera of 46 SLE patients and 15 health individuals were collected for detecting the levels of sex hormones and immune associated factors. The expression of CD45 isoforms and the status of CD45 DNA methylation of the peripheral mononuclear blood cells were detected by flow cytometry and bisulfite sequencing PCR, respectively.

No prospective data have confirmed the effect of laxity on the development of KOA, and evidence of the relationship between laxity and KOA progression is still limited. This study aimed to reveal the risk of KOA incidence or progression in no laxity, mild laxity, and severe laxity knees.

A total of 3610 knees without radiographic KOA in OAI (osteoarthritis initiative) database were prospectively divided into no, mild, and severe laxity groups to compare KOA incidence in 7-year follow-up via multi-variable Cox regression. Similarly, another 3155 knees with radiographic KOA were analyzed to investigate the effect of laxity on knee replacement surgery, joint space narrowing, malalignment, and pain.

The severe laxity group has a higher incidence of KOA (adjusted HR = 1.63, CI = [1.08, 2.47]). Laxity increased the risk of medial joint space narrowing (adjusted OR of mild laxity = 1.36, CI = [1.10, 1.68], adjusted OR of severe laxity = 1.51, CI = [1.06, 2.15]), malalignment (adjusted OR of mild laxity = 1.21,es KOA structural progression. Nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD)-mediated degradation of BrFLC2 transcripts is the main cause of rapid flowering of oilseed-type B. rapa 'LP08' plants. Many Brassica species require vernalization (long-term winter-like cooling) for transition to the reproductive stage. In the past several decades, scientific efforts have been made to discern the molecular mechanisms underlying vernalization in many species. Thus, to identify the key regulators required for vernalization in Brassica rapa L., we constructed a linkage map composed of 7833 single nucleotide polymorphism markers using the late-flowering Chinese cabbage (B. rapa L. ssp. pekinensis) inbred line 'Chiifu' and the early-flowering yellow sarson (B. rapa L. ssp. trilocularis) line 'LP08' and identified a single major QTL on the upper-arm of the chromosome A02. In addition, we compared the transcriptomes of the lines 'Chiifu' and 'LP08' at five vernalization time points, including both non-vernalized and post-vernalization conditions. We observed that BrFLC2 was significantly downregulated in the early flowering 'LP08' and had two deletion sites (one at 4th exon and the other at 3' downstream region) around the BrFLC2 genomic region compared with the BrFLC2 genomic region in 'Chiifu'.
