ting the need for routine T2DM screening at outpatient departments.BACKGROUND Soybean developing seed is susceptible to high temperature and humidity (HTH) stress in the field, resulting in vigor reduction. Actually, the HTH in the field during soybean seed growth and development would also stress the whole plant, especially on leaf and pod, which in turn affect seed growth and development as well as vigor formation through nutrient supply and protection. RESULTS In the present study, using a pair of pre-harvest seed deterioration-sensitive and -resistant cultivars Ningzhen No. 1 and Xiangdou No. 3, the comprehensive effects of HTH stress on seed vigor formation during physiological maturity were investigated by analyzing cotyledon, embryo, leaf, and pod at the levels of protein, ultrastructure, and physiology and biochemistry. There were 247, 179, and 517 differentially abundant proteins (DAPs) identified in cotyledon, embryo, and leaf of cv. Xiangdou No. 3 under HTH stress, while 235, 366, and 479 DAPs were identified in cotyledon, embryo, and leaf of cv. Ningzhen No. 1. Mand viability in embryo, more powerful photosynthetic capacity and nutrient supply in leaf, and stronger protection in pod under HTH stress. These results provide comprehensive characteristics of leaf, pod and seed (cotyledon and embryo) under HTH stress, and some of them can be used as selection index in high seed vigor breeding program in soybean.BACKGROUND Ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs) are a highly diverse group of secondary metabolites (SM) of bacterial and fungal origin. While RiPPs have been intensively studied in bacteria, little is known about fungal RiPPs. In Fungi only six classes of RiPPs are described. Current strategies for genome mining are based on these six known classes. However, the genes involved in the biosynthesis of theses RiPPs are normally organized in biosynthetic gene clusters (BGC) in fungi. RESULTS Here we describe a comprehensive strategy to mine fungal genomes for RiPPs by combining and adapting existing tools (e.g. antiSMASH and RiPPMiner) followed by extensive manual curation based on conserved domain identification, (comparative) phylogenetic analysis, and RNASeq data. Deploying this strategy, we could successfully rediscover already known fungal RiPPs. Further, we analysed four fungal genomes from the Trichoderma genus. We were able to find novel potential RiPP BGCs in Trichoderma using our unconventional mining approach. CONCLUSION We demonstrate that the unusual mining approach using tools developed for bacteria can be used in fungi, when carefully curated. Our study is the first report of the potential of Trichoderma to produce RiPPs, the detected clusters encode novel uncharacterized RiPPs. The method described in our study will lead to further mining efforts in all subdivisions of the fungal kingdom.BACKGROUND The mammal intestinal microbiota is involved in various physiological processes and plays a key role in host environment adaption. However, for non-human primates (NHPs), little is known about their gut microbial community in high-altitude environments and even less about their adaption to such habitats. We characterised the gut microbial community of rhesus macaques from multiple high-altitude environments and compared it to those of low-altitude populations. RESULTS We collected faecal samples of rhesus macaques from four high-altitude populations (above 3000 m) and three low-altitude populations (below 500 m). By calculating the alpha diversity index, we found that high-altitude populations exhibited a higher diversity. Statistical analysis of beta diversity indicated significant differences between high- and low-altitude populations. Significant differences were also detected at the phylum and family levels. At the phylum level, the high-altitude gut microbial community was dominated by Firmicutude populations in terms of diversity, composition and function. High-altitude populations were dominated by Firmicutes and Ruminococcace, while in low-altitude populations, Bacteroidetes and Prevotellaceae were dominant. The difference in gut microbiota between these two populations may be caused by differences in host diet, environmental temperature and oxygen pressure. These differentiated gut microbial microorganisms may play a critical role in the adaptive evolution of rhesus macaques to high-altitude environments.BACKGROUND Patients infected with HIV may experience a succession of clinical stages before the disease diagnosis and their health status may be followed-up by tracking disease biomarkers. In this study, we present a joint multistate model for predicting the clinical progression of HIV infection which takes into account the viral load and CD4 count biomarkers. METHODS The data is from an ongoing prospective cohort study conducted among antiretroviral treatment (ART) naïve HIV-infected women in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. We presented a joint model that consists of two related submodels a Markov multistate model for CD4 cell count transitions and a linear mixed effect model for longitudinal viral load dynamics. RESULTS Viral load dynamics significantly affect the transition intensities of HIV/AIDS disease progression. The analysis also showed that patients with relatively high educational levels (β = - 0.004; 95% confidence interval [CI]-0.207, - 0.064), high RBC indices scores (β = - 0.01; 95us, and educational status are associated with the current state of the patient, and are an important contributing factor to extend survival of the patients and guide clinical interventions. From a methodological perspective, it can be concluded that a joint multistate model approach provides wide-ranging information about the progression and assists to provide specific dynamic predictions and increasingly precise knowledge of diseases.BACKGROUND Lebanon has experienced several measles and mumps outbreaks in the past 20 years. In this article, a case-based surveillance of both measles and mumps outbreaks in Lebanon was carried out in an attempt to outline factors contributing to the failure of elimination plans and to provide potential solutions. The relationship between the outbreaks of both diseases was described and explored. METHODS A retrospective descriptive study of confirmed cases of measles and mumps in Lebanon between 2003 and 2018 collected from the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health Epidemiological Surveillance Unit public database was carried out. Tolebrutinib The information collected was graphically represented taking into consideration dates of reported cases, age groups affected, and vaccination status. RESULTS The mean number of measles cases was 150.25 cases/year in the 1-4 years age group, 87 cases/year in individuals aging between 5 and 14, and 63.68 cases/year in those > 14 years old. In the latter group, only 18.05% were unvaccinated.
