Furthermore, Mep1A was expressed mainly in MCs, wherein it mediated TNF-α expression. Mep1A inhibitor actinonin significantly inhibited TNF-α secretion in MCs. TNF-α secreted by MCs enhanced MMP2 expression in SMCs and promoted SMC apoptosis. CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATIONS Taken together, these data suggest that Mep1A may be vital in AAA pathophysiology by regulating TNF-α production by MCs. Knocking out Mep1A significantly decreased AAA diameter and improved AAA stability in mice. Therefore, Mep1A is a potential new therapeutic target in the development of AAA. © 2020 The British Pharmacological Society.PREMISE Domestication usually involves local adaptation to environmental conditions. Cucurbita species are a promising model for studying these processes. Cucurbita moschata is the third major crop in the genus because of its economic value and because it displays high landrace diversity, but research about its genetic diversity, population structure, and phylogeography is limited. We aimed at understanding how geography and elevation shape the distribution of genetic diversity in C. moschata landraces in Mexico. METHODS We sampled fruits from 24 localities throughout Mexico. We assessed 11 nuclear microsatellite loci, one mtDNA region, and three cpDNA regions but found no variation in cpDNA. We explored genetic structure with cluster analysis, and phylogeographic relationships with haplotype network analysis. RESULTS Mitochondrial genetic diversity was high, and nuclear genetic differentiation among localities was intermediate compared to other domesticated Cucurbita. We found high levels of inbreeding. We recovered two mitochondrial lineages highland (associated with the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt) and lowland. check details Nuclear microsatellites show that localities from the Yucatan Peninsula constitute a well-differentiated group. CONCLUSIONS Mexico is an area of high diversity for C. moschata, and these landraces represent important plant genetic resources. In Mexico this species is characterized by divergence processes linked to an elevational gradient, which could be related to adaptation and may be of value for applications in agriculture. The Isthmus of Tehuantepec may be a partial barrier to gene flow. Morphological variation, agricultural management, and cultural differences may be related to this pattern of genetic structure, but further studies are needed. © 2020 Botanical Society of America.More than 10 years ago, the first pilot observational study of imatinib discontinuation was reported in chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) patients in deep molecular response (DMR). Several studies have been published since then, in patients treated with frontline imatinib, or second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) in first or second line but also on second attempt of TKI discontinuation. Our objective was to estimate, through meta-analyses of the literature data, the probability of molecular recurrence (MolRec) in the time periods of 0-6, 6-12, 12-18 and 18-24 months after a first and second TKI discontinuation and the probability of re-acquisition of DMR after MolRec. The Medline and Scopus databases were searched up to April 2019. The studies were selected by three independent reviewers. Random-effect meta-analyses were conducted using the MetaXL software. The probability of MolRec in the time periods 0-6, 6-12, 12-18 and 18-24 months after the first attempt was respectively 35%, 8%, 3% and 3%, whereas the probability of MolRec in the time periods 0-6, 6-12 and 12-18 after the second attempt was 48%, 27% and 12% respectively. Re-acquisition of a DMR was observed in 90% of patients. Most of the MolRec occur during the first six months in case of a first attempt, whereas the second MolRec occurs over a larger window of time. © 2020 British Society for Haematology and John Wiley & Sons Ltd.Research on part-time work has concentrated over many decades on the experiences of women but male part-time employment is growing in the UK. This article addresses two sizable gaps in knowledge concerning male part-timers are men's part-time jobs of lower quality than men's full-time jobs? Are male part-timers more or less job-satisfied compared to their full-time peers? A fundamental part of both interrogations is whether men's part-time employment varies by occupational class. The article is motivated by the large body of work on female part-timers. Its theoretical framework is rooted in one of the most controversial discussions in the sociology of women workers the "grateful slave" debate that emerged in the 1990s when researchers sought to explain why so many women expressed job satisfaction with low-quality part-time jobs. Innovatively, this article draws upon those contentious ideas to provide new insights into male, rather than female, part-time employment. Based upon analysis of a large quantitative data set, the results provide clear evidence of low-quality male part-time employment in the UK, when compared with men's full-time jobs. Men working part-time also express deteriorating satisfaction with jobs overall and in several specific dimensions of their jobs. Male part-timers in lower occupational class positions retain a clear "lead" both in bad job quality and low satisfaction. The article asks whether decreasingly satisfied male part-time workers should be termed "ungrateful slaves?" It unpacks the "grateful slave" metaphor and, after doing so, rejects its value for the ongoing analysis of part-time jobs in the formal labor market. © 2020 London School of Economics and Political Science.PREMISE Nutrients, light, water, and temperature are key factors limiting the growth of individual plants in nature. Mutualistic interactions between plants and microbes often mediate resource limitation for both partners. In the mutualism between legumes and rhizobia, plants provide rhizobia with carbon in exchange for fixed nitrogen. Because partner quality in mutualisms is genotype-dependent, within-species genetic variation is expected to alter the responses of mutualists to changes in the resource environment. Here we ask whether partner quality variation in rhizobia mediates the response of host plants to changing light availability, and conversely, whether light alters the expression of partner quality variation. METHODS We inoculated clover hosts with 11 strains of Rhizobium leguminosarum that differed in partner quality, grew plants under either ambient or low light conditions in the greenhouse, and measured plant growth, nodule traits, and foliar nutrient composition. RESULTS Light availability and rhizobium inoculum interactively determined plant growth, and variation in rhizobium partner quality was more apparent in ambient light.
