In the current study, we focused on the experiences of Black girls and women and investigated the longitudinal links between racial microaggressions and mental health symptoms over 1 year. We then explored the role of two key protective factors as moderators-coping with racial discrimination and racial/ethnic identity-for mental health. Participants included 199 Black adolescent girls (Mage  = 16.02) and 199 Black women (Mage  = 42.82) who completed measures on two types of racial microaggressions, three types of coping strategies, racial/ethnic identity, and mental health symptomology. Girls and women completed measures at three time points over 1 year. Results indicated both types of microaggressions predicted increased mental health symptoms in Black women. Among Black girls, assumptions of criminality predicted increased externalizing symptoms only when protective factors were included in the model. Analysis of the protective factors indicated a potential direct benefit rather than a moderating role of coping with racial discrimination through positive thinking for mental health in both Black girls and women. Evidence suggests that coping may have had a direct rather than an indirect effect on Black girls' mental health over time. We conclude with future directions for research and considerations for practice.

Anxiety and depression are prevalent in the adolescent population and can have significant consequences. Treatment recommendations are established but rates of utilization remain low, often due to a lack of access to mental health providers. Availability of mental health services in a school-based setting may increase access, but homeschooled children do not have access to these services. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has increased the number of homeschooled children and compounded the problem of adolescent mental health disorders.

This pilot evidence-based practice project aimed to increase access to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in adolescents. Eight students from a local homeschool cooperative participated in the Creating Opportunities for Personal Empowerment (COPE) program. A Friedman test was used to evaluate median differences on anxiety and depression screening instruments at baseline, program completion, and 1 month after the program. Students also completed an adapted COPE program evaluation.

Median scores on screening instruments decreased from pre-COPE to 1 month after, although results were not statistically significant. Students reported that the COPE program was helpful, and they learned new ways to deal with their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and consensus statements (CSs) are being promoted to provide high-quality healthcare guidance. This systematic review has assessed the breast cancer (BC) screening CPGs and CSs quality and reporting.

A search of bibliographic databases (MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus and CDSR), 12 guideline databases and 51 professional society websites was performed without language restrictions from January 2017 to June 2020, following prospective registration (Prospero no. CRD42020203807). SO AGREE II (% of maximum score) and RIGHT (% of total 35 items) appraised quality and reporting individually, extracting data in duplicate; reviewer agreement was 98% and 93%, respectively.

Forty guidances with median overall quality and reporting 51% (interquartile range [IQR] 39-63) and 48% (IQR 35-65), respectively. Twenty-two (55%) and 20 (50%) did not reach the minimum standards (scores <50%). The guidances that deployed systematic reviews had better quality (74.2% vs. 46.9%; p = 0.001) and reporting (80.5% vs. 42.6%; p = 0.001). Guidances reporting a tool referral scored better (AGREE II 72.8% vs. 43.1%, p = 0.002; RIGHT 75.0% vs. 46.9%, p = 0.004).

We collected more than 50,000 cells from multiple datasets and created, up to date, the largest integrated bladder datasets. Pseudotime trajectory of urothelium and interstitial cells, as well as dynamic cell-cell interactions, was investigated. Biological activity scores and different roles of signaling pathways between certain cell clusters were also identified.

The glucose score was significantly high in most urothelial cells, while the score of H3 acetylation was roughly equally distributed across all cell types. Several genes via a pseudotime pattern in mouse (Car3, Dkk2, Tnc, etc.) and human (FBLN1, S100A10, etc.) were discovered. Despite great promise, the pragmatic deployment of e-textiles in clinical practice remains challenged due to the lack of a method in producing custom-designed e-textiles at high spatial resolution across a large area. To this end, a programmable dual-regime spray that enables the direct custom writing of functional nanoparticles into arbitrary fabrics at sub-millimeter resolution over meter scale is employed. The resulting e-textiles retain the intrinsic fabric properties in terms of mechanical flexibility, water-vapor permeability, and comfort against multiple uses and laundry cycles. The e-textiles tightly fit various body sizes and shapes to support the high-fidelity recording of physiological and electrophysiological signals on the skin under ambulatory conditions. Pilot field tests in a remote health-monitoring setting with a large animal, such as a horse, demonstrate the scalability and utility of the e-textiles beyond conventional devices. This approach will be suitable for the rapid prototyping of custom e-textiles tailored to meet various clinical needs.

In-depth characterization of the three capsid viral proteins (VPs 1, 2, and 3) of adeno-associated viruses (AAVs) is immediately needed to ensure the consistency in gene therapy products and processes. These proteins are typically present at very low concentrations in matrices containing high concentrations of excipients and salts. Thus, there is a need for convenient methods for sample preparation before proteomic analysis. The aim of this study was to meet this need by developing a fast, reliable approach for isolating VPs in a manner enabling their efficient digestion and in-depth characterization using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS).

VPs from Anc80 were precipitated with different organic solvents, and the resulting precipitates were dissolved in either sodium deoxycholate (SDC) and N-dodecyl-beta-D-maltoside (DDM) or guanidine hydrochloride (Gu-HCl). The peptides obtained by the following enzymatic digestion by either trypsin or Asp-N were analyzed using LC-MS/MS.

We found that precipitation with chloroform/methanol/water results in fast, efficient preparation of VP samples, allowing 100% and 99.2% amino acid sequence coverage of VP1 for trypsin and Asp-N digestion, respectively. This also allowed complete sequence confirmation of VP1, VP2, and VP3 of Anc80, as well as characterization of the amino acid sequences of the N- and C-terminal regions of each VP, together with their post-translational modifications (PTMs).

Due to this diversity, male pregnancy offers a unique platform for assessing physiological and molecular adaptations in pregnancy evolution. These insights will contribute to answering long-standing questions of why and how pregnancy evolved convergently in so many vertebrate systems. To understand the molecular congruencies and disparities in male pregnancy evolution, we compared transcriptome-wide differentially expressed genes in four syngnathid species, at four pregnancy stages (nonpregnant, early, late and parturition). Across all species and pregnancy forms, metabolic processes and immune dynamics defined pregnancy stages, especially pouched species shared expression features akin to female pregnancy. The observed downregulation of adaptive immune genes in early-stage pregnancy and its reversed upregulation during late/parturition in pouched species, most notably in Hippocampus, combined with directionless expression in the pouch-less species, suggests immune modulation to be restricted to pouched species that evolved placenta-like systems. We propose that increased foeto-paternal intimacy in pouched syngnathids commands immune suppression processes in early gestation, and that the elevated immune response during parturition coincides with pouch opening and reduced progeny reliance. Immune response regulation in pouched species supports the recently described functional MHC II pathway loss as critical in male pregnancy evolution. The independent co-option of similar genes and pathways both in male and female pregnancy highlights immune modulation as crucial for the evolutionary establishment of pregnancy.The present study compared the first (EC1) and second (EC2) bouts of whole-body eccentric exercises to examine the effects of the magnitude of muscle damage on changes in blood bone markers. Fifteen sedentary young men performed nine eccentric exercises of arm, leg, and trunk muscles, and repeated them 2 weeks later. Blood samples were taken before and 2 h and 1-5 days following each bout to analyze plasma creatine kinase (CK) activity and myoglobin concentration, serum tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP), type 1 C-terminal telopeptide (CTX-1), procollagen type I N-terminal propeptide (P1NP), bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BAP), undercarboxylated-osteocalcin (ucOCN), carboxylated-osteocalcin (cOCN), and leptin concentrations.
