Two of them (sinigrin and hesperetin) were selected by comparing their binding affinities with N3 and lopinavir. Sinigrin and hesperetin interacted with the two most important catalytic residues of Mpro (His41 and Cys145). Molecular dynamics studies further revealed that these two Mpro-polyphenol complexes are more stable and experience less conformational fluctuations than Mpro-N3/lopinavir complex. The Mpro-hesperetin complex was more compact and less expanded than Mpro-sinigrin complex. These findings were additionally validated by MM-GBSA analysis. As a whole, our study revealed that these two polyphenols may be potent SARS CoV-2 Mpro inhibitors and may possibly be considered for COVID-19 treatment.Copaifera pubiflora Benth oleoresin (CPO) is used as an anti-inflammatory, wound healing, and antimicrobial. This paper reports the cytotoxic, anti-inflammatory, and antinociceptive activities of CPO. CPO (10 mg/kg) did not affect locomotor capacity in the open-field and rotarod tests and was not cytotoxic to CHO-k1, THP-1, and L929 cell lines. It was active in the formalin test at 3 mg/kg by 86 ± 3% and 96 ± 3%, respectively, for the first and second phases. At 10 mg/kg, CPO inhibited 90 ± 7%, the pain in the mechanical hyperalgesia test. In the tail-flick test, CPO at 3 mg/kg affected the tail-flick latencies in mice by 77 ± 20%, which in combination with naloxone was only partially reduced. At 3 mg/kg CPO inhibited 80 ± 12% the carrageenan-induced paw edema, and at 3 mg/kg it reduced by 91 ± 5% the nociception on acetic acid-induced abdominal writhing. Therefore, CPO possesses anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive activities. In the pursuit of a systematic characterization of rare-earth vanadates under compression, in this work we present a multifaceted study of the phase behavior of zircon-type orthovanadate PrVO4 under high-pressure conditions, up to 24 GPa. We have found that PrVO4 undergoes a zircon to monazite transition at around 6 GPa, confirming previous results found by Raman experiments. A second transition takes place above 14 GPa, to a BaWO4-II type structure. The zircon to monazite structural sequence is an irreversible first-order transition, accompanied by a volume collapse of about 9.6%. The monazite phase is thus a metastable polymorph of PrVO4. The monazite-BaWO4-II transition is found instead to be reversible and occurs with a similar volume change. Here we report and discuss the axial and bulk compressibility of all phases. We also compare our results with those for other rare-earth orthovanadates. Finally, by means of optical-absorption experiments and resistivity measurements, we determined the effect of pressure on the electronic properties of PrVO4. We found that the zircon-monazite transition produces a collapse of the band gap and an abrupt decrease in the resistivity. The physical reasons for this behavior are discussed. Density functional theory simulations support our conclusions.Ripening of tomato fruit leads, in general, to a sequential decrease in the endogenous levels of polyamines spermidine (SPD) and spermine (SPM), while the trend for the diamine putrescine (PUT) levels is generally an initial decrease, followed by a substantial increase, and thereafter reaching high levels at the red ripe fruit stage. However, genetic engineering fruit-specific expression of heterologous yeast S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) decarboxylase in tomato has been found to result in a high accumulation of SPD and SPM at the cost of PUT. This system enabled a genetic approach to determine the impact of increased endogenous levels of biogenic amines SPD and SPM in tomato (579HO transgenic line) and on the biogenesis, transcription, processing, and stability of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes in tomato fruit as compared with the non-transgenic 556AZ line. One major biogenetic process regulating transcription and processing of pre-mRNA complexes in the nucleus involves small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs). To determine M regulates snoRNA and rRNA expression directly or indirectly, in turn, affecting protein synthesis, metabolism, and other cellular activities in a positive manner.Three-dimensional porous nanostructures made of noble metals represent novel class of nanomaterials promising for nonlinear nanooptics and sensors. Such nanostructures are typically fabricated using either reproducible yet time-consuming and costly multi-step lithography protocols or less reproducible chemical synthesis that involve liquid processing with toxic compounds. Here, we combined scalable nanosecond-laser ablation with advanced engineering of the chemical composition of thin substrate-supported Au films to produce nanobumps containing multiple nanopores inside. Most of the nanopores hidden beneath the nanobump surface can be further uncapped using gentle etching of the nanobumps by an Ar-ion beam to form functional 3D plasmonic nanosponges. The nanopores 10-150 nm in diameter were found to appear via laser-induced explosive evaporation/boiling and coalescence of the randomly arranged nucleation sites formed by nitrogen-rich areas of the Au films. Density of the nanopores can be controlled by the amount of the nitrogen in the Au films regulated in the process of their magnetron sputtering assisted with nitrogen-containing discharge gas.Asparagus Decline Syndrome (ADS) is one of the main phytosanitary problems of asparagus crop worldwide. Diseased plants and soil samples from 41 fields from three main production areas of Spain were surveyed. Eight Fusarium species belonging to seven species complexes were identified in soils F. oxysporum, F. proliferatum, F. redolens, F. solanisensu stricto, F. equiseti, F. Olcegepant clinical trial culmorum, F. compactum and F. acuminatum. Fusarium oxysporum was the most prevalent species. Statistical correlation (R2 = 88%) was established between F. oxysporum inoculum density and the average temperature of the warmest month. A relationship was also established between three crop factors (average temperature, crop age and F. oxysporum inoculum density) and field disease indices. Significant differences were observed between the distribution of F. oxysporum propagules in white and green asparagus fields. Thirteen Fusarium species belonging to seven species complexes were identified from roots of diseased plants, being F. oxysporum the most prevalent.
