Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is known as one of the most effective treatment methods in plantar fasciitis (PF). Low-dye taping, which is the most preferred method of banding treatments, provides an analgesic effect by correcting biomechanics. It was aimed to compare the efficacy of adjuvant low-dye kinesio-taping (KT), sham-taping, or ESWT alone in PF.

In this double-blind, sham-controlled study, 45 patients with PF were randomised into Group 3 (Group 1 ESWT plus low-dye KT, n=15; Group 2 ESWT plus Sham-taping, n=15; and Group 3 ESWT only, n=15) five-session ESWT were administrated. KT was performed and changed every 1-week for the ESWT sessions in Groups 1 and 2. The main outcome measures were the visual analogue scale (VAS) change, the heel tenderness index (HTI), foot function index (FFI). The patients were evaluated at the beginning and end of the treatment and at the 4-week follow-up.

The demographic characteristics and baseline outcomes between groups were similar (P>.05). No significant difference was found between Groups 1 and 2, Groups 1 and 3 and Groups 2 and 3 with respect to VAS, HTI changes during the 4-week follow-up. VAS and HTI changes were observed in all three groups, there were no differences between groups. Repeated-measures ANOVA showed a significant interaction between the time and the groups in FFI-total (F

=2.607; P=.043). For the FFI total, there was only a significant difference in favour of Group 1 when compared with Group 2 (P=.027).

Although low-dye KT in addition to ESWT was more effective on foot function improvement than additive sham-taping and ESWT alone, it did not provide a significant benefit on pain and heel tenderness because of PF.

We trace these beliefs to a long-standing, gendered sociocultural convention and argue that the disparagement of emotion as a source of moral understanding is both empirically and morally problematic. According to the current scientific and philosophical understanding, reason and emotion are better understood as partners, rather than opposites. Nonetheless, the two have historically been seen as separate, with reason elevated in association with masculinity and emotion (especially nurturing emotion) dismissed or delegitimated in association with femininity. These associations can be situated in a broader, dualistic, and hierarchical logic used to maintain power for a dominant male (White, able-bodied, upper class, heterosexual) human class. We argue that emotion should be affirmed by conservationists for the novel and essential insights it contributes to conservation ethics. We consider the specific example of compassion and characterize it as an emotional experience of interdependence and shared vulnerability. We assessed 91 children (18 girls) diagnosed with ADHD aged 7-11 years (29 ADHD-Inattentive, 32 ADHD-Hyperactive/Impulsive, and 31 ADHD-Combined). Persistent elevated concentrations of urinary protein can destroy proximal tubule epithelial cells (PTECs) by inducing lysosomal abnormalities, thereby aggravating PTEC damage and renal fibrosis. However, the specific mechanisms of these serial biochemical events and methods for treating or preventing PTEC damage upon proteinuria need further investigation.

In this study, electron microscopy and dual-labeled immunofluorescence analysis for identifying lysosome type revealed inadequate primary lysosome biogenesis and secondary lysosome accumulation in the PTECs of patients with minimal change nephrotic syndrome or membranous nephropathy who suffered from proteinuria. In vitro studies on HK-2 cells indicated that this abnormality was associated with decreased expression of transcription factor EB (TFEB). In contrast, TFEB overexpressing HK-2 cells under urinary protein overload exhibited significantly reduced accumulation of secondary lysosomes and increased proportion and quantity of primary lysosomes as indicated by dual-labeled immunofluorescence. Further, these cells could upregulate lysosomal degradation functions, as determined using Cathepsin L activity assays and flow cytometry for dye quenched-albumin.

These results indicate that abnormal TFEB expression is a key mechanism of lysosomal dyshomeostasis caused by protein overload in PTECs. TFEB is thus a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of urinary protein-related kidney disease.
