Copeptin levels reflect vasopressin activity and help classify osmoregulatory disorders. There is limited pediatric experience using copeptin to diagnose and manage diabetes insipidus, syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH), and bi- or tri-phasic postsurgical osmoregulatory disorders. In this report, we describe serial copeptin levels in an infant who developed transient SIADH after neurosurgery.

A 4-month-old infant with no prior pituitary dysfunction underwent endoscopic fenestration of a large arachnoid cyst (3.5 × 4.7 × 3.8 cm). He developed SIADH on postoperative day 4 with seizures, hyponatremia (sodium 121 mmol/L), and concentrated urine (535 mOsm/kg). His initial copeptin level was inappropriately high in the context of his hyponatremia. Copeptin levels decreased as his SIADH resolved. Serial copeptin levels correlated to the infant's increased ability to dilute urine.

Copeptin levels in this infant are consistent with levels described in adults and older children. Obtaining copeptin levels may improve providers' ability to quickly diagnose and manage SIADH amongst other heterogeneous causes of hyponatremia. Lastly, trending copeptin levels improved providers' ability to monitor SIADH progression, and may allow preemptive fluid titration for children with bi- or tri-phasic shifts in osmoregulation after neurological procedures.

The spread of excitation (SOE) and auditory nerve recovery function (REC) are objective measures recorded by neural response telemetry and may interfere in cochlear implant (CI) stimulation.

To analyze and correlate SOE with the refractory periods in subjects with pre- and postlingual deafness implanted with different electrode arrays.

This was a retrospective study of 323 ears separated by perimodiolar or straight arrays and by pre- or postlingually deaf recipients. Measures were collected intraoperatively on electrode 11. The SOE width was measured in millimeters at the 0.75 point of the curve, and the relative (tau) and absolute (t0) refractory periods were measured in microseconds.

There was a statistical correlation between the SOE and the t0 in the patients with postlingual deafness implanted with the perimodiolar array. The SOE width was statistically different between the straight and perimodiolar arrays and between the pre- and postlingual groups in the perimodiolar array. Tau was statistically different between the pre- and postlingual groups with the straight array and the t0, between the pre- and postlingual groups with the perimodiolar array. Neural response threshold and amplitude of the neural response were not statistically different among groups.

The risk/benefit-ratio of deep brain stimulation (DBS) depends on focusing the electrical field onto the target volume, excluding side-effect eliciting structures. Directional leads limiting radial current diffusion can target stimulation but add a spatial degree of freedom that requires control to align multimodal imaging datasets and for anatomical interpretation of stimulation. Unpredictable postoperative lead rotations have been reported. The extent and timing of rotation from the surgically intended alignment remain uncertain, as does the time point at which directional stimulation can be safely initiated without risking unexpected shifts in stimulation volume. We present a retrospective analysis of clinically indicated, repeated neuroimaging controls postimplantation in patients with directional DBS systems, which allow estimation of the amount and timing of postoperative lead rotation.

Residues from the resists often remain on the transferred TMDs, thereby causing a significant variation in their electrical and optical characteristics. Therefore, an alternative to the conventional wet transfer method is needed-one in which no residue is left behind. Herein, we report that our molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) films synthesized by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition can be easily transferred onto arbitrary substrates (such as SiO2/Si, polyimide, fluorine-doped tin oxide, and polyethersulfone) by using water alone, i.e. without residues or chemical solvents. The transferred MoS2 film retains its original morphology and physical properties, which are investigated by optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy, Raman, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and surface tension analysis. Furthermore, we demonstrate multiple recycling of the resist-free transfer for the nano-grain MoS2 film. Using the proposed water-assisted and recyclable transfer, MoS2/p-doped Si wafer photodiode was fabricated, and the opto-electric properties of the photodiode were characterized to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.
