Artificial intelligence (AI) in the healthcare sector is receiving attention from researchers and health professionals. Few previous studies have investigated this topic from a multi-disciplinary perspective, including accounting, business and management, decision sciences and health professions.
The structured literature review with its reliable and replicable research protocol allowed the researchers to extract 288 peer-reviewed papers from Scopus. The authors used qualitative and quantitative variables to analyse authors, journals, keywords, and collaboration networks among researchers. Additionally, the paper benefited from the Bibliometrix R software package.
The investigation showed that the literature in this field is emerging. It focuses on health services management, predictive medicine, patient data and diagnostics, and clinical decision-making. The United States, China, and the United Kingdom contributed the highest number of studies. Keyword analysis revealed that AI can support physicians in making a diagnosis, predicting the spread of diseases and customising treatment paths.
The literature reveals several AI applications for health services and a stream of research that has not fully been covered. For instance, AI projects require skills and data quality awareness for data-intensive analysis and knowledge-based management. Insights can help researchers and health professionals understand and address future research on AI in the healthcare field.

The black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) has significant economic potential. The larvae can be used in financially viable waste management systems, as they are voracious feeders able to efficiently convert low-quality waste into valuable biomass. However, most studies on H. illucens in recent decades have focused on optimizing their breeding and bioconversion conditions, while information on their biology is limited.
About 200 fifth instar well-fed larvae were sacrificed in this work. The liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry and scanning electron microscopy were employed in this study to perform a proteomic and ultrastructural analysis of the peritrophic matrix (PM) of H. illucens larvae.
A total of 565 proteins were identified in the PM samples of H. illucen, of which 177 proteins were predicted to contain signal peptides, bioinformatics analysis and manual curation determined 88 proteins may be associated with the PM, with functions in digestion, immunity, PM modulation, and others. The ultracterized proteins, which should not be ignored and need further study. A comparison of the ultrastructure between H. illucens larval PM and those of other insects as observed by SEM indicates that the PM displays diverse textures on an ultra-micro scale and we suscept a unique diamond-shaped chitin grid texture may help H. Cyclopamine illucens larval to hold more food. This work deepens our understanding of the molecular architecture and ultrastructure of the H. illucens larval PM.Bacterial biofilm is the complicated clinical issues, which usually results in bacterial resistance and reduce the therapeutic efficacy of antibiotics. Although micelles have been drawn attention in treatment of the biofilms, the micelles effectively permeate and retain in biofilms still facing a big challenge. In this study, we fabricated on-demand pH-sensitive surface charge-switchable azithromycin (AZM)-encapsulated micelles (denoted as AZM-SCSMs), aiming to act as therapeutic agent for treating Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) biofilms. The AZM-SCSMs was composed of poly(L-lactide)-polyetherimide-hyd-methoxy polyethylene glycol (PLA-PEI-hyd-mPEG). It was noteworthy that the pH-sensitive acylhydrazone bond could be cleaved in acidic biofilm microenvironment, releasing the secondary AZM-loaded cationic micelles based on PLA-PEI (AZM-SCMs) without destroying the micellar integrity, which could tailor drug-bacterium interaction using micelles through electrostatic attraction. The results proved that positively charged AZM-SCMs could facilitate the enhanced penetration and retention inside biofilms, improved binding affinity with bacterial membrane, and added drug internalization, thus characterized as potential anti-biofilm agent. The excellent in vivo therapeutic performance of AZM-SCSMs was confirmed by the targeting delivery to the infected tissue and reduced bacterial burden in the abscess-bearing mice model. This study not only developed a novel method for construction non-depolymerized pH-sensitive SCSMs, but also provided an effective means for the treatment of biofilm-related infections.
Transitioning from an old medical coding system to a new one can be challenging, especially when the two coding systems are significantly different. The US experienced such a transition in 2015.
This research aims to introduce entropic measures to help users prepare for the migration to a new medical coding system by identifying and focusing preparation initiatives on clinical concepts with more likelihood of adoption challenges.
Two entropic measures of coding complexity are introduced. The first measure is a function of the variation in the alphabets of new codes. The second measure is based on the possible number of valid representations of an old code.
A demonstration of how to implement the proposed techniques is carried out using the 2015 mappings between ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM/PCS. The significance of the resulting entropic measures is discussed in the context of clinical concepts that were likely to pose challenges regarding documentation, coding errors, and longitudinal data comparisons.
The proposed entropic techniques are suitable to assess the complexity between any two medical coding systems where mappings or crosswalks exist.
