235-579.825) respectively. The molecular study of the sodium channel gene revealed three genotypes namely the susceptible genotype (SS), the heterozygous genotype (SR) and the resistant genotype (RR), which correlates with the phenotypic results. This information is fundamental to improve monitoring and resistance management strategies of R. sanguineus s.l. ticks to pyrethroids.A 4-year-old intact female Yorkshire Terrier presented an acute onset of hypersalivation and depressed mentation. The owner reported that the dog displayed tremors, right-sided torticollis, right-sided head tilt, and lifting of the left forelimb. The dog appeared restless and confused, and the condition progressed to lethargy and death on the way to an emergency hospital. At necropsy, a single 10 mm long x 1 mm wide, pale gray, botfly larva with black spines was found along the cerebral meninges. Areas of hemorrhage were noted in the right cerebral hemisphere. Microscopically, these areas also had evidence of necrosis and inflammation. Morphology of the larva allowed confirmation of subfamily-level identification as Cuterebrinae, and presumed genus-level identification of Cuterebra. Species-level identification of the larva as C. abdominalis was achieved through DNA extraction, PCR and sequencing at the cytochrome oxidase subunits 1 and 2 (COI and COII), followed by phylogenetic analysis. Aberrant cuterebrosis is a poorly documented condition in dogs that may cause neurologic signs and lead to death. In this study, a three-step experiment was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of orange essential oil (OEO) to reduce the severity of parasitic infection in lambs naturally infected with gastrointestinal parasites. In the first and second stages of the experiment, the lambs were distributed in groups (n = 10) without treatment (control), treated with levamisole (7.5 mg/kg), and treated either with 200, 300 or 400 mg/kg OEO in the first stage and with two doses of 300 or 350 mg/kg each of OEO with a six-hour interval in the second stage. In the third stage of the experiment, 20 lambs were distributed into control and treated groups (two doses of 350 mg/kg OEO) and slaughtered for determining the parasite count in the abomasum and small intestine. Evaluations were performed on D0, D3, D7, D10, and D14 by determining the egg count per gram of feces (EPG), and the percentage of EPG reduction was calculated in comparison to D0. Coproculture was performed on days D0 and D14 of the first and second stages of thsites in sheep.
To investigate the immuno-histological evidences in viable and non-viable hydatid cysts obtained from naturally infected camels.
A cohort study (February 2018-December 2019), a total of 15 hydatidosis-infected camels from slaughter houses in Cairo were involved. Specimens were investigated for parasite viability, liver histological changes, IL-17A cytokine immunohistochemical expressions in the adventitial layer, and the anti-nuclear antibodies (ANAs) immunofluorescent expression in the metacestode's structures. Real-Time Quantitative -Morphocytometry and SPSS were utilized.
Multi-focal lesions and high viability were found in 60% of the cases. Overall accumulation of collagen associated the parasite establishment that involved infiltrations of mononuclear cells with significantly increased IL-17A expression. Interestingly, the ANAs appeared to have a role in the immune-defense against the metacestode showing different patterns. ANAs production correlated with IL-17A expression and the viability of the parasite.
IL-17A responses in hydatidosis is associated with collagen deposition and ANA production as a sort of anti-parasite immunity in a viability dependent manner.

In addition, the variables related to these animals and the management of the farm were investigated in terms of the significance of the associations. In total, 383 serum samples from goats, of both sexes and different ages, were collected from 15 farms in four municipalities. The indirect immunofluorescence test was used for antibody detection against Neospora caninum and Toxoplasma gondii. The overall seroprevalence of N. caninum in goats was 26.4% (101/382; IC 95% 22.3-31.1), and 114 out of 383 serum samples were T. gondii-seropositive (29.8%, IC 95% 25.4-34.5). In addition, the seroprevalence of coinfection of T. gondii and N. caninum in goats was 8.6% (33/382; IC 95% 6.2-11.8). The risk factors significantly associated with the seroprevalence of N. caninum were age, type of sheepfold floor, rearing system, feeding, pasture area cultivated, cats having access to the feed deposits, worming, slaughter place of the animals, history of abortion and the presence of dogs and cats. Regarding the seroprevalence of T. gondii infection, age, category, presence of other species and purpose of breeding were the risk factors. To our knowledge, this is the first report of the seroprevalence and risk factors for N. caninum and T. gondii in goats in the state of Maranhão, Brazil, which provides basic data for the implementation of strategies and control measures against neosporosis and toxoplasmosis. In this study, we assessed the occurrence of a periparturient rise (PPR) in winter and spring lambing ewes in Sweden and where nematode egg excretion patterns were investigated mainly for diagnostic purposes. Gastrointestinal nematodes and Haemonchus contortus presence were monitored in parallel in all animals in each experimental group on four farms in samples that were collected mainly when the animals were stabled. Faecal examinations of the same animals were conducted on four sampling occasions between January and June 2018 Each group consisted of 12 crossbreed ewes of similar genotype. One group's peak lambing was in January or February (early), and the other in March or early May (late). The first (S1) and third samples (S3) were from approximately one to two weeks before parturition in the early (winter lambing) and late (spring lambing) group respectively, whereas the second (S2) and fourth samples (S4) were collected approximately three to five weeks post-parturition in the same groups. During the coturition. PBIT Histone Demethylase inhibitor Still, our results suggests that when turned out, winter lambing ewes contribute to pasture contamination to a lesser extent than those lambing in spring. These results will be used in stipulating evidence-based advice to farmers in their flock management to reduce use of anthelmintics, and at the same time efficiently produce prime lambs.Tick-borne hemoparasitic (TBH) infections are a major problem affecting livestock industries worldwide, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions. This study was carried out in response to repeated reports from local veterinarians in Khartoum State, Sudan, where TBH infections are prevalent in dairy farms. This cross-sectional study was undertaken from October 2017 to April 2018 with the objective of assessing the prevalence and potential risk factors associated with cattle anaplasmosis and babesiosis in the localities of Omdurman, Khartoum, and Khartoum North, Khartoum State. A total of 292 cattle blood samples collected from apparently healthy animals were examined for the presence of A. marginale, Babesia bigemina, and B. bovis using PCR. The overall prevalence of A. marginale and B. bigemina was found to be 40.41% and 3.42%, respectively, while B. bovis was not detected. Mixed infections with A. marginale and B. bigemina were detected in four (1.37%) cattle. The prevalence of the two pathogens was found to be significantly higher in Khartoum and Omdurman than in Khartoum North. However, no significant difference was observed for the prevalence based on sex, age, breed, and mean packed cell volume values. Our findings indicated that A. marginale is a highly prevalent parasite in Khartoum State, which may be a primary constraint to the cattle industry. Inclusion of this pathogen in the diagnostic protocols, and consequent treatment and tick control are necessary. Moreover, the role of B. bigemina infection may exacerbate the situation to some extent in this region. The water buffalo (B. bubalis) is an alternative to cattle ranching in several regions of southern Mexico. Here we report seroprevalence and risk factors associated with the protozoan parasite, Neospora caninum, in water buffaloes in six buffalo production units, in municipalities from central and southern Veracruz, Mexico. Antibodies to N. caninum were assessed in serum samples of 543 buffaloes by a commercial ELISA-kit, and 44.8% (243/543; 95% CI 40.5-49.0) were seropositive. Questionnaires were used to collect epidemiological data and to identify risk factors associated with N. caninum infection. Data analysis indicated that older buffaloes (≥7 year) exhibited the highest seroprevalence for neosporosis 62.3% (38/61; 95% CI 49.7-73.4) (P ≤ 0.05). Buffaloes that were in close contact with cattle had higher seroprevalence 47.6% (168/353; 95% CI 42.3-52.9) (P less then 0.01) than those that were not in contact 36.8% (70/190; 95% CI 30.0-44.1). Our findings provide important information to implement preventive measures in the buffalo farms.
The aim of this research was the identification of the enteroparasites harbored by the animals of the San Andrés community, to evaluate their role as susceptible hosts and sources of infection for other animals, humans (zoonoses), as well as parasite forms spreaders to the environment in this rural area, located in the province of Chimborazo, Ecuadorian Andean region.
The study was carried out combining 3 coproparasitological techniques direct examination, Ritchie and Ziehl-Neelsen in 300 animal stool samples RESULTS Blastocystis sp., Entamoeba spp., Giardia spp., Balantidium spp., Cryptosporidium spp., Ascaris spp., Toxocara spp., Ancylostoma spp., Strongylida, Hymenolepis nana and Echinococcus spp., were detected. Infection by protozoa (87.3%) was higher than helminths (31.0%). All cattle, sheep and guinea pigs were found parasitized, and the presence of Blastocystis sp., Entamoeba spp. and Cryptosporidium spp. by all groups of animals stands out. It is also remarkable the presence of Giardia spp. in swting its transmission.Cyathostomins are the most common parasites of adult horses worldwide. Currently, the three classes of anthelmintics used to treat cyathostomin infections includes benzimidazoles, pyrimidines and macrocyclic lactones. However, due to widespread overuse, cyathostomins have developed varying degrees of resistance to all classes of anthelmintics. Fecal egg count reduction tests (FECRT) are currently used to determine the presence of anthelmintic resistance (AR), while egg reappearance periods (ERP) are used to investigate early macrocyclic lactone resistance. The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence of cyathostomin pyrantel pamoate and ivermectin resistance, and to determine ERP at Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada horse farms. In addition, fecal cultures and larval identification were performed to evaluate the prevalence of small and large strongyle egg shedding in PEI. Fecal egg counts (FEC) were performed on 270 horses on 14 horse farms across PEI. Horses with≥ 200 eggs per gram (EPG) met the inclusion criteria and were enrolled in the study (n = 101).
