Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

The best method to keep your home tidy is to use a robotic vacuum. It can remove pet hair, dust and other debris from the surface before it causes a bigger problem.

smart vacuum cleaner connect to smart assistants such as Alexa and Google Assistant for a hands-free experience. Look for models that can recharge and resume cleaning where they left off.

1. iRobot S8

This smart robot mop and vacuum is a fantastic option for households with a variety of. It comes with a fantastic navigation system with GPS and laser sensors. It also comes with many features and controls accessible via the app. It also comes with a helpful feature that lets you add cleaning zones to certain areas that need extra attention, as well as Keep Out zones where you don't want it to go. It also gets software updates, like the other Roomba products, that enhance it over time.

It's expensive, but it's is also among the most sophisticated robot vacuums ZDNet has ever tested. It has a high-powered battery that can clean a large home in under two hours. It can switch between mopping and vacuuming by pressing one button. It automatically empties the bin of dust above its charging station, unlike other self emptying robots which require you to empty it after every run.

It also has many other features, including intelligent obstacle avoidance, which utilizes a camera along with processor-powered smarts in order to identify obstacles. It's not often damaged or stuck during a cleaning cycle, and it's the best in avoiding power cables and other objects I've tested. It's not as reliable at detecting pet waste or other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

Eufy, owned by Anker is now an iconic name in the world of low-cost robot vacuums. However, it did not offer a model that could also mop. This is changing with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive set of modern features that can compete against more expensive models.

Laser navigation is the main selling point of this machine. The previous Eufy devices have created a rough map of your home by using infrared sensors and bumping into things however the X8's laser mapping system is far more precise. It takes less time to create a comprehensive map of your home and can store multiple maps. This is great for homes with multiple floors.

The X8 is a good vacuum cleaner for floors that are clean. It can easily sling debris under the side brushes and into the 400ml dustbin. Its tyres are adept at hugging edges and corners even though they're circular. Our tests revealed that it was able to remove 90 percent of the fur from hard floors.

There's a basic mopping mode which uses the same water tank as the vacuuming. This is great for spills that aren't serious, but you can't regulate the amount of water that it uses. It is effective at picking up pet hair. It has a higher percentage of hair removal than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Known for quietly effective home appliances, Miele's RX2 robot vacuum is a great choice because of its cleaning power, beautiful design and great navigation. However, it has some operational issues that prevent it from being ranked as the top overall smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping technology that uses a LIDAR to map the space and a pair of 3D scanning cameras to detect and avoiding obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once the room is defined and assigned, you can designate virtual no-go areas and sections that you would like to be the robot. You can also manually change cleaning modes, start an automatic clean or watch live feeds from the onboard cameras from the main screen.

The RX2's sensors are effective by registering furniture and obstructions in real-time. Its sweeping and suction power are top-of-the-line and cleans up surface debris from medium-pile carpeting and embedded dust in bare floors. It's not the fastest robotics on the market. It's not the most efficient climber and has issues with metal threshold transition strips.

Many people purchase robot vacuums because of the ease of setting up a schedule using an app, only to forget about them for weeks. It's crucial that a robot is able to do the job and that's the reason our ZDNet staff looked over and tested a number of the most popular ones to help you find the right one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget robovac is a robot that looks like any other, but comes with some extra features and a better performance. Its intelligent mapping system creates 2D and 3-D maps of your house and makes use of them to navigate and stay clear of obstructions. It can even detect common obstructions such as power cords and furniture legs in real time. The combination of sensors with a bump detector, and an infrared sensor to keep the vacuum away from stairs makes it one of our most agile vacuums.

In our tests, it effortlessly climbed over thick shag rugs and didn't get stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigational skills were also impressive; its composite score in carpet and bare floors beat out the competition and it picked up 98.5 percent of surface litter and embedded pet hair from our lab test samples.

The controls are less basic than the competition's. There is a cleaning button at the top and you can start it with the app or via voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also set up a schedule for daily or weekly cleans, set no-go zones, and see the history of its cleaning. Ion is covered in a smart dark gray plastic that looks and feels attractive in your home. Its rear dustbin is easily accessible for emptying, and removing the filters is also a breeze.

5. Eufy 11S

If you're looking for a basic robotic vacuum that is simple and has no frills at a low price, the Eufy 11S might be your best bet. It lacks some of the more advanced features, like digital mapping and Alexa integration, which are available in higher-end models but if you're not looking for these functions, you can save a little money with this model.

This robot is simple to setup and use. It does not require a smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing, but it does have the ability to control the remote with a remote that lets you select various modes and adjust the suction level. You can also set up a manual schedule to set the robotvac to the schedule of cleaning.

During our tests during our tests, the 11S was extremely effective in removing pet hair and dirt on hard floors and in carpets with a low pile. Its slim profile allowed it to get under furniture and other low objects that larger robots could not reach. It was able to get easily over thresholds of doors and transition from one floor type to another.

The 11S, like other robots will also suckup certain objects, like cords and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests that you can prevent this from happening by keeping these objects off the ground and by using a cord organizer whenever possible. It also recommends that you periodically clean the dustbin, replace the filters, and change or wash the brushes as required.

Roomba 990 by iRobot

The Roomba is the flagship model of iRobot's robot vacuum. It's expensive but it's the best robot vacuum that you can purchase. Its self-navigation and environmental mapping are a joy to behold. It also has more advanced automation features than many competitors, including the ability to set virtual boundary lines using its mobile app. It's a powerful robot vacuum, even if its app is a bit sluggish and the 980's wheels spin out when rolling over cables.

We really like the 980, because it makes use of its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneity localisation and mapping (or vSLAM) to store the floor plan of your home. It then uses that information to create a consistent and efficient cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors, and a cleaner vacuum than the majority of high-end robot vacuums.

Other features of the 980 include dual multi-surface brushes which grab dirt on carpets and hard floors, as well as an ejector brush that spins to sweep debris into the robotic vacuum's bin. Its floor tracking sensors help it navigate across furniture and along edges, and Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling down stairs. It can also return automatically to the base station for simple charging between sessions. While the 980's battery life and bin size aren't as efficient as other robot vacuums, it's a reliable and solid machine that will keep your floors spotless for hours at a time.
