Few studies compared paclitaxel-coated balloon (PCB) versus sirolimus-coated balloon (SCB) in the treatment of drug-eluting stent (DES) instent restenosis (ISR).

Between November 5 2009 and October 14 2020, in our centre 212 patients with first DES-ISR were treated with PCB (Restore®; Cardionovum GmbH, Bonn, Germany), whereas 230 patients were treated with SCB (Devoir®; MINVASYS SAS, Gennevilliers, France). Following a propensity matching, 186 patients were included into PCB group (PCB group), and in the SCB group (SCB group). The primary purpose of the study was the 1-year target lesion failure (TLF) rate, including cardiac death, target vessel-related myocardial infarction, and repeated target lesion or target vessel revascularization.

Procedural success occurred in all cases. Fully optimal predilation (that is, balloon-to-stent ratio >0.91, time of DCB inflation >60 sec. and residual percent diameter stenosis after lesion preparation <20%) was observed more often in the SCB group (126 [68%] patients versus 106 [57%] patients; p = 0.042). One year TLF occurred in 29 (15.5%) patients in the SCB group and in 32 (17%) patients in the PCB group (OR = 1.12 [0.65-1.95]; p = 0.78). By logistic Cox regression analysis fully optimal predilation (OR = 0.06; 95% confidence interval = 0.01-0.21; p <0.001) but not DCB type (OR = 0.74; 95% confidence interval = 0.41-1.31; p = 0.29) was independent predictor of 1-year TLF.

Older persons hospitalized for COVID-19 are at highest risk of death. Frailty Assessment can detect heterogeneity in risk among people of the same chronological age. We investigated the association between frailty and in-hospital and medium-term mortality in middleaged and older adults with COVID-19 during the first two pandemic waves.

Observational multicenter study. We recorded sociodemographic factors (age, sex), smoking status, date of symptom onset, biological data, need for supplemental oxygen, comorbidities, cognitive and functional status, in-hospital mortality. We calculated a Frailty Index (FI) as the ratio between deficits presented and total deficits considered for each patient (theoretical range 0-1). We also assessed the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS). Mortality at follow-up was ascertained from a regional registry.

In total, 1344 patients were included; median age 68 years (Q1-Q3, 56-79); 857 (64%) were men. In addition to diagnosing acute myocardial infarction (MI), the electrocardiogram (ECG) may also predict the culprit coronary artery. We aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of ECG algorithms predicting the occluded vessel in inferior ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

This retrospective cohort study included 300 consecutive patients with inferior STEMI undergoing acute coronary angiography. A new method based on the summation of ST-segment deviations in multiple leads from the first 12-lead-ECG was used to develop algorithms to discriminate between right coronary artery (RCA) and circumflex artery (CX) occlusion. Additionally, older algorithms were reassessed.

The RCA was occluded in 235 patients (78%) and the CX in 65 (22%). ST-segment deviations differed significantly between RCA and CX occlusions in leads I, III, aVR, aVL, aVF and V1. From March 1, 2020 through March 30, 2021, 384 consecutive patients with confirmed low-risk COVID-19 were hospitalized at the AziendaOspedalieroUniversitariaPoliclinico di Bari (Italy). Criteria for low-risk were admission to the division of Pneumology or Infectious Diseases, no need for immediate (within 24 hours from admission) transfer to Intensive Care Unit or for respiratory support with invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) or for circulation support (either mechanical or pharmacological). Admission ECGs were reviewed and interpreted by two expert cardiologists. The primary outcomes were in-hospital death and the composite outcome of in-hospitaldeath and IMV.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the possible correlation between various inflammation-nutritional scores to histological determined Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) and other liver injury suggestive for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) in a bariatric population.

We evaluated consecutively and retrospectively all the patients referred to the department of bariatric surgery in Trieste, Italy. Inflammation-nutritional scores were calculated starting from pre-operative hematologic data. Liver biopsy was performed at the time of bariatric surgery (sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass) and pathological assessment was performed using Kleiner-Brunt staging system (NAS score).

Glasgow Prognostic Score/modified Glasgow Prognostic Score (GPS/ mGPS) and Prognostic Index (PI) were associated to the diagnosis of NASH (p= 0,024 and p=0,03 respectively). The presence of perisinusoidal and/or periportal fibrosis was correlated to Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) and Platelet-to-Lymphocyte ratio (PLR) values (p=0,02 and p=0,009 respectively).

Our prospective observational study is the first study that evaluates the lung ultrasound (LUS) findings of cardiopulmonary interactions in acutely ill children with elevated pro-brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels, with the aim of establishing the specific LUS pattern in this category of patients without primary lung diseases.

We prospectively analyzed epidemiological, clinical, laboratory, instrumental, and lung ultrasound parameters in acutely ill children aged 1 month to 18 years admitted to the Department of Pediatrics between March 2020 to August 2020. Among the acutely ill patients evaluated, only patients with pro-BNP > 300 pg/ml and who underwent LUS before the start of any treatment were included. They were stratified into three subcategories based on the diagnosis (A) cardiac disease, (B) systemic inflammatory disease/sepsis without functional and/or organic alterations of the myocardium, and (C) systemic inflammatory disease/sepsis and cardiac disease, and were classified into two groupsthe ultrasound pattern of other categories of children and in particular (1) children with acute lower respiratory tract infections and (2) healthy infants.
