ntrations and can thus provide a cholesterolHDL ratio. The Passing-Bablok regression analyses for the ratio showed poor performance in both self-tests (Mission 3-in-1 y = 1.62x-1.20; Qucare y = 0.61x + 1.75). The Accutrend Plus is unable to measure the plasma high-density lipoprotein concentration.Conclusions/interpretation The Accutrend Plus cholesterol meter (Roche) had excellent diagnostic and analytic performance. However, several of the commercially-available self-tests had considerably poor accuracy and diagnostic performance and therefore do not meet the required qualifications, potentially leading to erroneous results. Better regulation, standardization and harmonization of cholesterol self-tests is warranted.

The most common way to validate a pneumatic tube system is to compare pneumatic tube system-transported blood samples to blood samples carried by hand. The importance of measuring the forces inside the pneumatic tube system has also been emphasized. The aim of this study was to define a validation protocol using a mini data logger (VitalVial, Motryx Inc., Canada) to reduce the need for donor samples in pneumatic tube system validation.

As an indicator of the total vibration, the blood samples are exposed to under pneumatic tube system transportation; the area under the curve was determined by a VitalVial for all hospital Tempus600 lines using a five-day validation protocol. Only the three lines with the highest area under the curves were clinically validated by analysing potassium, lactate dehydrogenase and aspartate aminotransferase. A month after pneumatic tube system commissioning, a follow-up on laboratory data was performed.

Mean area under the curve of the six lines ranged between 347 and 581. The variability of the area under the curve was between 1.51 and 11.55%. In the laboratory data follow-up, an increase in lactate dehydrogenase haemolysis was seen from the three lines with the highest area under the curve and the emergency department, which was not detected in the clinical validation. When the Tempus600 system was in commission, a higher mean area under the curve was measured.

A three-day validation protocol using VitalVials is enough to determine the stability of a Tempus600 system and can greatly reduce the need for donor samples. When in commission, the stability of the pneumatic tube system should be verified and lactate dehydrogenase haemolysis should be routinely checked.

Better understanding of key processes has allowed the development of vaccines in record time, and of agents with the potential to treat and neutralize current and future coronavirus outbreaks. To date, clinically effective agents for prevention and treatment of covid-19 infections are limited. This review provides a brief synopsis regarding the molecular biology, pathology and laboratory tests commonly used in the diagnosis and prognosis of covid-19, as well as the development of vaccines and therapeutic strategies to manage its current and future mutations.

The gold standard for coronary artery bypass grafting to the left anterior descending artery is use of the left internal mammary artery. Better long-term survival has been reported using bilateral internal mammary arteries compared to left internal mammary artery only, but many surgeons are reluctant to employ bilateral internal mammary arteries in coronary artery bypass grafting. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of bilateral internal mammary artery use.

From 2014 to 2017, 1703 patients underwent coronary artery bypass grafting in our institute. Of these, 772 met the inclusion criteria and were randomly assigned to receive bilateral (

 = 387) or left (

= 385) internal mammary artery grafts. The mean age was 67.1 ± 6.0 years (range 48-85 years) and 474 (61.4%) were male. The mean number of diseased vessels was 3.1 ± 0.9, and mean EuroSCORE II was 3.4% ± 1.1%.

Hospital mortality was 1.2% in the left internal mammary artery group vs. 1.8% in the bilateral internal mammary artery group (

= 0.55). There was no difference in procedure-related complications between groups. Mean follow-up was 65.9 months. Survival in the bilateral internal mammary artery group at 1, 3, and 5 years was 98.7%, 98.7%, and 94.8% vs. 98.1%, 98.1%, and 90.9%, respectively, in the left internal mammary artery group (

 = 0.63).

Application of bilateral internal mammary arteries in coronary artery bypass grafting is safe and effective, with comparable midterm results to those with the left internal mammary artery only.

Determining the nature of purely cystic hepatic lesions is essential because different kinds have different follow-ups, treatment options, and complications.

To explore the potential of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) for the differentiation of type I hydatid cysts (HC) and simple liver cysts (SLC), which have similar radiological appearances.

This single-center prospective study was conducted during 2016-2019. Round, homogenous, anechoic liver cysts >1 cm were classified according to at least two years of imaging follow-up, radiological features, serology, as well as puncture aspiration injection reaspiration procedure and pathology results. ADC values of 95 cysts (50 type I HCs and 45 SLCs) were calculated on DWI. The differences in ADC values were analyzed by independent t-test.

Of 51 patients, 28 were female, 23 were male (mean age 32.07 ± 22.95 years; age range 5-82 years). Mean diameter of 45 SLCs was 2.59 ± 1.23 cm (range 1.2-7.6 cm) and ADC

value was 3.03 ± 0.47 (range 2.64-5.85) while mean diameter of 50 type I HCs was 7.49 ± 2.95 cm (range 2.8-14 cm) and ADC

value was 2.99 ± 0.29 (range 2.36-3.83). There was no statistically significant difference in ADC values between type I HCs and SLCs.

Some studies report that ADC values of type I HCs are statistically significantly lower than those of SLCs. Others suggest no significant difference. In our study with a higher number of cases, using ADC parameters similar to those in previous studies, we did not find any statistically significant difference.

Therefore, we investigated the bacterial flora adhering to the skin of dogs and the bacterial flora was analyzed for the presence of zoonotic bacteria that infect humans from companion animals. With the cooperation of students enrolled in the Department of Medical Technology and Science, Faculty of Fukuoka Health Care, International University of Health and Welfare. 39 samples were collected from the abdomen, back and paws of 13 healthy dogs using sterile swabs by the scraping method. The isolation culture was carried out only for facultative anaerobic bacteria to obligate aerobic bacteria and Bacterial identification was determined by MALDI-TOF MS and 16S rRNA gene analysis. Among the identified strains were Pasteurella canis, Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, Staphylococcus intermedius, which were difficult to detect in humans. The overall ratio of detected bacteria was 35% for coagulasenegative staphylococci, 14% for coagulase-positive staphylococci, 5% for Enterobacteriaceae, and 45% for natural environment. In the future, it is expected that extended-spectrum β-lactamase producing bacteria and drug-resistant bacteria such as Carbapenem-resistant enterobacterales will also be transmitted to humans through contact with companion animals.Making the antibiogram necessary for infectious disease treatment is an important operation of the microbiology laboratory. Antibiogram is required to be up-to-date and to keep up with the annual updates of the Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). However, these operation and managements require a lot of effort. In addition, even in the surveillance and analysis comparison of multiple facilities, the difference in CLSI base year becomes a barrier, making unified analysis difficult. On the other hand the antibiogram by Japan Nosocomial Infections Surveillance (JANIS) has restrictions on the bacterial species, antibacterial agents, and date range. Accordingly we focused on the fact that the data transmitted to JANIS is in a common format, and attempt construction a system to making the antibiogram based on this. This system uses data transmitted to JANIS, is convenient, can use not only the latest but also past base year CLSI category, has no restrictions on bacterial species, antibacterial agents, date range, works on Microsoft Windows environment, pursuit of compliance with the guidelines, and automatically making the antibiogram. There are several problems associated with antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) of Haemophilus influenzae. β-Lactamase-negative ampicillin-resistant H. Tebipenem Pivoxil influenzae (BLNAR) isolates with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of ampicillin (ABPC) less then 4 mg/l will be classified as susceptible according to the MIC breakpoint of the CLSI M100 criteria, in spite of harboring penicillin-binding protein (PBP) mutations that cause ABPC resistance. A total of 103 isolates were collected from clinical materials for analysis. The genotypes of the PBP mutations were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction. The WalkAway 96 Plus (WALKAWAY), dry plate Eiken (DP-EIKEN), and RAISUS S4 systems (RAISUS) were used for AST. HTM broth was used as the culture medium for WALKAWAY, Mueller‒Hinton broth with 5% lysed horse blood for DP-EIKEN, and HTM with 5% horse serum for RAISUS. The MIC concordance rates of ABPC for g-BLNAR, for RAISUS vs. DP-EIKEN, RAISUS vs. WALKAWAY, and DP-EIKEN vs. WALKAWAY were 96.1, 86.4, and 85.4%, respectively. WALKAWAY had a low correlation with the other two systems. Moreover, concordance rates of ABPC MIC ≥4 mg/l, which is considered as resistant, of 69 g-BLNAR isolates for the RAISUS, DP-EIKEN, and WALKAWAY systems were 68.1, 58.0, and 37.7%, respectively. Therefore, in Japan, where the BLNAR strain is isolated at a high frequency, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of the measuring systems to appropriately interpret the test results.
