Little evidence exists on its clinical presentation, path to diagnosis, and surgical management. In this report, we present a case report and literature review. A healthy 20-year-old male patient presented with hemorrhagic colitis requiring total colectomy with end ileostomy. Pathological examination showed pancolitis with multiple ulcers, transmural inflammation, hemorrhage, and microvascular thrombosis. Extensive serological testing revealed elevated cytoplasmic antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (c-ANCA) and eosinophilia, leading to a diagnosis of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) and vasculitis-induced colitis. A literature review was subsequently conducted. Nineteen studies were found documenting vasculitis-induced colitis in the absence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Systemic signs of vasculitis, hemorrhagic colitis, and progression to fulminant colitis were present. Of all patients, 40.0% required colorectal surgery and 62.5% of those patients received a stoma; 25% underwent emergency surgery following failed immunosuppression. All cases relied on clinical correlation with serology and/or histopathology to reach a final diagnosis. We report a case of vasculitis-induced colitis caused by c-ANCA-positive EGPA. The review shows that vasculitis-induced colitis without IBD is an important differential that clinicians should be aware of in patients presenting with colitis.

Fontan associated liver disease (FALD) potentially impacts Fontan patients undergoing heart transplant. This multi-center study sought to identify pre-transplant risk factors and characterize any post-transplant liver recovery in those patients undergoing heart-alone transplant.

Review of Fontan patients at 12 pediatric institutions who underwent heart transplant between 2001-2019. Radiologists reviewed pre and post-transplant liver imaging for fibrosis. Laboratory, pathology and endoscopy studies were reviewed.

156 patients underwent transplant due to decreased ventricular function (49%), protein losing enteropathy (31%) or plastic bronchitis (10%); median age at transplant was 13.6 years (interquartile range IQR 7.8, 17.2) with a median of 9.3 years (IQR 3.2, 13.4) between the Fontan operation and transplant. Few patients had pre-transplant endoscopy (18%), and liver biopsy (19%). There were 31 deaths (20%). The median time from transplant to death was 0.5 years (95% Confidence Interval CI 0.0, 3.6). The five-year survival was 73% (95% CI 64%, 83%). Deaths were related to cardiac causes in 68% (21/31) and infection in 6 (19%). A pre-transplant elevation in bilirubin was a predictor of death. Higher platelet levels were protective. Immediate post-transplant elevations in creatinine, AST, ALT, and INR were predictive of death. Advanced liver fibrosis identified on ultrasound, computed tomography, or magnetic resonance imaging was not predictive of death. Liver imaging suggested some improvement in liver congestion post-transplant.

Golem started his doctorate in microbiology at Alfort Veterinary School. In this process, he worked as an assistant to the world-renowned French microbiologist Dr Gaston Ramon at the Pasteur Institute. After his doctorate, he returned to Albania and established the Veterinary Affairs Organization and made significant contributions to its structuring in international standards. Dr Golem returned to Türkiye in 1926 and started working at the Central Institute of Hygiene. Dr Golem, together with physicians and veterinarians at this institute, diagnosed brucellosis in animals and humans with serological methods for the first time in Türkiye. Moreover, he isolated Newcastle virus from embryonated eggs for the first time and prepared Komarov type attenuated dry vaccine against this virus for the first time in Türkiye. He conducted the first research on the diagnosis of Q fever and prepared the first intradermal BCG vaccine in Türkiye. Through his studies for both public and animal health in Türkiye, he has contributed to the One Health concept with an understanding that transcends time.

Despite the benefits, the rate of genetic testing among first-degree relatives (FDRs; parents, children, and siblings) remains low, and the barriers to undergoing testing among FDRs in China are not clear. We explored the reasons why FDRs refused genetic testing.

Semi-structured face-to-face interviews were conducted with 22 patients and 27 FDRs. Participants were recruited at an urban tertiary hospital in Guangzhou, South China. We used qualitative content analysis to analyse the transcripts of audio recordings and identify major themes and subthemes.

Three major themes emerged related to FDRs' low rate of participation in genetic testing. First, there is cognitive distance from genetic testing/cancer and a lack of knowledge of preventive medicine that deepens the 'fatalistic' attitude towards cancer among FDRs, which leads to an enormous gap between their knowledge and understanding of genetic testing. Second, medical consultation is not valued in Confucianism, and the view of cancer as 'bad news' and the risk of cancer as a curse makes cancer a metaphor, which leads to exhausting arguments when persuading FDRs to undergo genetic testing. Third, physical distance from the hospital, loss of privacy, possible discrimination in many social activities and genetic testing as a source of stress and anxiety lead FDRs to fear the disruption of their daily lives.

There are many barriers to genetic testing among the FDRs of hereditary cancer patients originating from the national social and cultural context. Healthcare professionals should develop interventions rooted in culture and promote cancer risk communication between hereditary cancer patients and FDRs.

In this paper, we developed a Low Temperature Plasma Jet (LTPJ) system for treating diabetic foot ulcers on streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. This system generates time-dependent reactive nitrogen and oxygen species (RNOS), which have temperature below 40°C. The wound area of normal mice was significantly reduced after LTPJ treatment. Histological and immunohistochemistry analysis showed faster deposition of collagen and more vessel formation both in plasma-treated normal and diabetic mice on Day 3. However, diabetic wounds showed poor collagen deposition and angiogenesis on Day 8, which might be the reason of slow wound healing. Reactive nitrogen species (RNS) that generated by LTPJ can promote endogenous nitric oxide (NO) production in diabetic wounds, thus promoting inflammation, stromal deposition, angiogenesis, cell proliferation and remodeling, while excess reactive oxygen species (ROS) will exacerbate oxidative stress in wound tissues of diabetic mice. In conclusion, LTPJ improved acute wound healing in normal mice, increased collagen deposition and angiogenesis in initial diabetic wound healing, but had no significant effect on diabetic wound healing rate.Melatonin, a widely applied cosmetic active ingredient, has a variety of uses as a skin protector through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory functions as well as giving the body UV-induced defenses and immune system support. In the body, melatonin is synthesized from a tryptophan amino acid in a cascade of reactions, but as melatonin is toxic at high concentrations, it is metabolized in the human skin by the cytochrome P450 enzymes. The P450s are diverse heme-based mono-oxygenases that catalyze oxygen atom-transfer processes that trigger metabolism and detoxification reactions in the body. In the catalytic cycle of the P450s, a short-lived high-valent iron(IV)-oxo heme cation radical is formed that has been proposed to be the active oxidant. How and why it activates melatonin in the human body and what the origin of the product distributions is, are unknown. This encouraged us to do a detailed computational study on a typical human P450 isozyme, namely CYP1A1. We initially did a series of molecular dynamics sicomplex. A series of pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-based compounds 3a-l and 5a-f were prepared by the direct cyclo-condensation reaction of 5-amino-1H-pyrazoles 1a, b with 2-(arylidene)malononitriles and 3-(dimethylamino)-1-aryl-prop-2-en-1-ones, respectively. The structures of the new pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine compounds were confirmed via spectroscopic techniques. The in vitro biological activities of all pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines 3a-l and 5a-f were evaluated by assaying total antioxidant capacity, iron-reducing power, the scavenging activity against 1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) and 2, 2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radicals, anti-diabetic, anti-Alzheimer, and anti-arthritic biological activities. All compounds displayed good to potent bioactivity, and three compounds 3g, 3h, and 3l displayed the most active derivatives.
