Choosing a Double Umbrella Stroller
It is crucial to think about your family's priorities and needs when you are shopping for a double stroller . This will help you narrow down your options and focus on the most essential features.
The UPPAbaby G-Link 2 double umbrella stroller is a well-made, high-end product that folds up in a compact manner. It has large canopies and large storage containers. It's also simple to move.
Lightweight
The best double umbrella strollers are small and lightweight, yet provide plenty. They're not as heavy as a conventional jogger or stroller and tend to be smaller when folded. They don't have the whistles, bells, and storage space that are found in full-size strollers; they do provide large canopy and reclining seats.
A lightweight double umbrella stroller is a popular option for families who travel together. It folds easily, can be tucked away in the majority of trunks and airline carry-on bags, and is an excellent choice for getting around narrow sidewalks and tight doors. It's also less expensive than more feature-rich "travel stroller" that you might use for your daily walks.
Some of the top double strollers like the UPPAbaby G-Link 2 have features that aren't found on the lighter models. This double umbrella stroller has hanging storage pockets and trays inside each seat to store kids' toys and snacks as well as two parent cupholders. The streamlined design makes this double umbrella stroller one of the most compact available. It also has an extra wide canopy that protects both seats.
Other lightweight options like the Joovy Kooper X2, offer more bells and whistles than you would expect from a double stroller umbrella, such as a more comfy ride for both kids thanks to padded seats as well as a higher recline for each seat. It's important to keep in mind that the more features you pick, the more your stroller weighs. Additionally, due to the way that strollers can be closed and opened, you'll want to be careful not to let your little fingers catch on hinges or frames, especially when your child is seated in either seat.
Compact
The tiniest double umbrella strollers when folded are easy to maneuver and fit in tight spaces. They're an excellent option for parents who intend to use their stroller frequently on sidewalks, in shopping malls or to get around tourist attractions like the aquarium, zoo or museums. These lightweight, compact strollers are also ideal to use for commutes or as a backup to a larger stroller with more features when traveling.
There are two types of lightweight double umbrellas: those that have very little features and those that offer many comfort and convenience options in addition to their small size. Some of the best examples include large pop-out umbrellas, with SPF 50, windows that peek out and cushioned seats. They also come with 5-point safety harnesses on both sides, as well as adjustable leg rests, and reclined seats. You should also think about whether you'd like a car seat attachment or a tray for the parent and the amount of storage space available in each seat.
The Delta Children LX Double Umbrella is an excellent example of a simple, no-frills option that is extremely lightweight and affordable. This stroller weighs just 18 pounds and comes with a convenient carrying strap that can be schlepped easily into the trunk of your car or a front closet when not in use. Its front wheels have precision technology and swivel to provide a smooth ride and easier steering. The brand new Kinderwagon Hop is a tandem umbrella stroller that has a narrow width, which is also ultralight and easy to navigate through doors. The model was off the market for a while but is now returning to production and is worth checking out. It also has a three-panel canopy, which provides more sun protection than smaller models.
Easy to Fold
The simplest umbrella strollers fold up like umbrellas, and they weigh less than other models. This makes them easy to lift, carry, and stow for use when you don't need or can't bring your full-size stroller for some reason (traveling on an airplane, traveling in an unfamiliar city, or visiting grandma). They typically come with fewer features than a full-featured stroller, but they should offer the essential features you need like storage and a sun canopy.
The G-Link 2's newest version is smaller, lighter and has an improved wheel structure on the front that improves its maneuverability and pushability. It's an excellent option for a double travel stroller--and it's approved by Disney!
A double tri-fold stroller, like the Joovy Kooper X2, offers all the convenience of an umbrella-style stroller but with a body similar in size to a regular full-size stroller. This type of stroller is replacing the traditional double umbrella stroller. It's probably the best choice if searching for a light and multi-purpose stroller.
Most double umbrella strollers we recommend are side-by-side models. The exception is the Kinderwagon Hop, a tandem umbrella stroller that's super light and easy to fold (though it's also relatively narrow). This is a great choice when you're looking for a basic inexpensive double umbrella stroller that you can easily put in your trunk for short trips. It even comes with two hanging storage bags on the backs of each seat and cup holders for parents. It's so basic, you might not be able to get your kids through the airport without causing noise. However, it can make your trip more comfortable.
Comfortable Seats
The majority of umbrella strollers don't come with many bells and whistles, because they are designed for one purpose: to take two children from one place to the other. They typically come with comfortable, spacious seats but no reclining options or all-terrain wheels.
The UPPAbaby G-Link 2 stands out. It's an incredibly lightweight and compact double umbrella stroller with two seats that weigh only 18 pounds each, making it a fantastic choice for anyone who travels (it is in line with Disney size requirements). It's got a fantastic suspension, a large three-panel canopy that easily shields children from the sun and a decent amount of storage space in both seats, although not as much as our top choices. It also comes with the essential 5-point safety harnesses in both seats as well as windows that peek out in their canopies.
The G-Link does not have the bellybar or snack tray we'd love to see on our top choices. But these features aren't necessary for umbrella strollers. Like all umbrella strollers, the G-Link must be handled with care to avoid fingers getting caught in the hinges and mechanisms.
The seats in double umbrella strollers are usually side-by-side, but there are some models that are inline (one seat behind the other). Inline models are simpler to maneuver through doorways than models that are side by side however their seating arrangements could cause your kids to fight over which seat. Our previous test subjects were evenly split on this issue and it's a personal decision.
Safety
Your child's safety should be a top priority when you choose a stroller and the design of double umbrella strollers can make or break this aspect of its performance. While it's hard to find a light double stroller that provides the same level of security as larger strollers, some models do come close. These strollers usually have 5-point harnesses and feet and calf rests designed for children, aswell being able to extend UPF 50plus sunvisor. They are also usually narrower and lighter than other double umbrella strollers, making them easier to maneuver through tight spaces such as airports or streets in cities.
Some models, like the Kinderwagon Hop, are side-by-sides and are easy to push through small spaces. This stroller is perfect for parents who are traveling with children and needing a simple and quick method of getting around. It is also compact enough to fit into the trunk.
Another option worth considering is the UPPAbaby G-Link 2, which is among the most lightweight double umbrella strollers we test. It is a sturdy design for an umbrella-style stroller and has an ample, easily accessible storage basket, reclining seats and a peek-a-boo window. The seat can also hold 35 lbs. and is in line with Disney stroller specifications.
Other models, like the Jeep PowerGlide double stroller, are more minimalist in their design and may not offer the same features. However, these strollers are still extremely light and can be used as a backup or for travel purposes on occasion. These strollers are also less expensive than renting one for a whole vacation or for a trip. They are also easy to lift, carry and fold.
